What I Learned in 2025 (part 2)
Show notes
We’re picking up right where we left of last week reflecting on some of the things I learned in 2025. If you haven’t already, take some time to reflect on your lessons from 2025. What are you carrying with you into this year?
Transcript
Count money, man.
Count money, man.
Stacked riches.
I'm trying to told him I'm a beast, but...
All right, here we go.
Picking up where we left off, we're going to be giving you part two this week of what
we learned in 2025.
Not everything, but just some things that we had to remind ourselves of, something that
we've already learned, that we relearn in 2025.
So part two coming at you live.
Let's go.
Next one would be making big decisions.
When you're making big decisions, take a deep breath and think.
Take your time.
If you have the opportunity to take your time, sometimes you don't have the opportunity
you've got to think fast, and I get it.
Then you've got to do the best that you can do with the experience that you got and
the talent level that you got.
But if it's not a rush, if it's not something you must rush to, what I've learned is it's
best to take your time.
And with a calm mind and cool head and well thought out situation and plan, then you
go out there and execute.
Part of making big decisions is you can't take things personal, either.
Like there's decisions you've got to make, and you've got to make business decisions,
not personal decisions.
And there's times where you win.
But by the decision that you're making, you win, but it may seem like you're losing to
others.
Like on the outside it looks like you're losing, but you're really winning.
Even in your heart, you're like, man, I wish I could do this.
I feel like I'm losing, but you know you're winning and you end up winning.
And then there's other times where you lose, but on the outside it looks like you're winning.
And you feel good temporarily.
Like, yeah, I want it.
Like, man, that person said this, I just smacked him in the face.
You know, whatever it was.
You want for the moment.
You feel better for the moment.
But did you really win two weeks from today, a year from today?
Did you really win and pass on the test that God just handed you so he could have blessed
you with some more things that you failed to test?
Did you really win or did you just temporarily win?
Because a lot of times your biggest wins, you've got to feel like you're losing temporarily.
And a lot of times your biggest loss as you feel like you're winning temporarily.
And it's not giving into those moments.
Next one would be competitive drive.
We'll keep you going.
Find a way to have it.
Meaning, if you have a competitive nature to you and not everybody does, but if you do,
don't lose it.
Because in my experience, that's what keeps you going.
Not long ago.
I watched the Steelers and the Lions play in the Steelers.
What a crazy game they win the game.
Aaron Rodgers gets interviewed after.
And he says, nobody believed in us.
Nobody thought we were going to win.
Nobody believed.
Nobody thought we were going to win.
I mean, my dude's 42 years old.
I think 40 years old.
Been playing the game forever.
Still chip on his shoulder.
People didn't believe in him.
People didn't believe that they were going to win.
They were underdog.
People gave, you know, a former Super Bowl winning quarterback, possibly a hall of
fame or probably a hall of fame or an Aaron Rodgers.
They gave him seven points.
You know, they didn't believe in him.
And so that competitive drive is what's going to keep you going.
If you could find a way to put that chip on your shoulder.
So what ways do you need to be motivated this year?
What ways can you create a narrative in your mind?
That is true.
But create the narrative of who don't believe in you?
Where are the chips down?
Or can you get competitive to bring the best out of yourself?
Next thing, it's critical to have good advisors in all areas of your life.
So think about areas of your life.
You could have health, finances, relationships, spiritual, parenting.
There's like all these different levels and areas of your life that you can have coaches
and mentors.
And I think it's critical to have good coaches, mentors, and advisors in all these areas
of your life.
But you got to be humble enough to ask for help when you're in need.
Like you may be able to ask for help from your workout trainer to get yourself in shape.
But you don't want to ask for help from your spiritual advisor when you're down.
Or you don't want to ask for help from somebody that can help you as a parent, but you'll
ask for help in boxing.
You know what I mean?
So you got to humble yourself and look at yourself right now and say, all right, do I have
advisors, mentors, and coaches in critical areas of my life?
If not, why not?
Is it a lack of humility?
Do you think you got it all figured out?
Do you think you're old enough now?
You don't need any advice from anybody else that has wisdom and counsel?
Even people your age, you know, it's like, man, when I make some big business decisions,
there's, I have a, people don't even know they're on my committee, but they're on my advisor,
they're on my advisory board.
When I got to make business decisions of like, all right, let me get my little committee
together.
Bounce this off them bounce this off them bounce that off them.
All right, boom.
You have to write decision.
I can't imagine not having that and I can't imagine how some people function without having
that because there's been a lot of decisions I would have made that would have been the
wrong decision had I not been surrounded by good counsel and I got 20 years of experience
and I got a winning track record and I do talk to the Lord and I do try to read books
and I do and it's still ain't good enough.
It's still ain't good enough.
It wasn't good enough.
I don't think it's ever going to be good enough.
So my opinion is go get yourself some good advisors.
One, injuries, physical and mental injuries are a part of life in the journey.
Man I really over time that would be a passion of mine to try to help people because I feel
bad.
I'm watching young kids.
You watch kids that work so hard in the off season and then they get injured and then
they miss the whole season.
They're out.
They miss six games.
There's only 10 games.
This kid worked so hard all year and then all of a sudden he can't play the last few
games of his year and he's so sad and he's so down.
The same thing happens to people as adults and the same thing happens to business and
the same thing happens in life.
What you got to do in that mindset is to understand that it's a part of the game.
Everybody's going to have their opportunity to be injured.
Yours might happen then.
There's may happen down the road.
You've got to be competitive about am I going to let this stop me or am I going to let this
fuel me?
Am I going to let this block me or am I going to let this motivate me?
Oh you thought this injury was going to be what made me quit.
You thought this injury was what was going to make me stop.
You thought this injury was what was going to break me.
Is there other areas while I'm taking care of my injury that I can get better?
My arms are injured.
Now I'm going to make my legs stronger than ever before.
My legs are injured.
I'm going to make my arms stronger than before.
I can't do too much with my body.
My knee and my upper body's injured.
Okay.
Spiritually and mentally I'm going to go to a whole different place and I'm going to tighten
up my diet, my nutrition and my diet is going to be better than ever before.
How can I find an advantage in the midst of a disadvantage?
How can I find where I can grow even when I'm put on temporary leave of absence for three
months, for six months?
What is it that I can grow from and learn from here that when they thought that you were
supposed to be down, that's an area that you lift yourself up?
First thing would be being yourself feels so good.
Being yourself.
You know like when you're not being yourself and when you're being yourself and then you
got people that are so fake, they're never themselves and then you got people that are
they're like, man, I'm just myself, they're just being me and you may even respect some
of that person's thing but you know sometimes that's dumb, right?
Of I'm just, well I'm just being me, I'm just, there's just times where being you is inappropriate.
It's just not, if that's you, if that's what you're doing, I'm just saying, I'm just
what you got to work with.
If that's what you'll come up produced, I respect it but there's a time and a place for
everything and so but being yourself feels so good but understand there's times where
you need to be a chameleon.
You got to be able to blend in.
You got to be able to adapt.
You got to be able to evolve.
You can't just be, oh this is just the way I am.
This is just the way I am.
Some of your great traits maybe but like I think we need to evolve and adapt in the way
you are today.
You might need to be a better version of yourself 10 years from today.
You can't just stand on the same rule that you've already had in all areas of life.
Maybe some things but not in everything.
In my experience, there's times where you need to be a chameleon and realize what you
need to change but when I say it feels so good to be yourself, just put yourself in situations
where you can be yourself and not be penalized as often as you possibly can.
That'll probably bring you the most joy.
Is be you just keep building the best version of yourself and so you know it's like well
that's just the way I am.
You need to be a better version of yourself in 24 months so you can be the way that you
are.
But if you want to be you, understand where you can't be you.
Or sometimes where you can't just full fledged all out, let it rip, be you in all areas
and I know that might not be popular to hear words like, oh not you should always keep
it real.
You ever see the videos where keeping it real goes wrong.
They had a video.
It's like where keeping it real goes wrong.
You can keep it real but you also can get your ass fired.
Now do you feel better?
That's the goes back to the scenario of well you thought you were winning and seemed
like you're winning temporarily but you're really losing down the road.
And so I think just put yourself in environments and keep working towards a life where you
could be the fool, like fruition of who it is that you are so you don't have to be in
a lot of environments where you're not being yourself but as often as you possibly can
without harming yourself be you.
Okay.
Next one.
You get the faster that time goes.
For people that are my age or older you already know what I'm talking about.
You already know what it is but those you that are listening to this that are in your
20s.
I didn't believe it either.
When people told me it's going to go fast man.
I remember being 26, 25.
Man.
I don't know how I just turned 42 years old.
I mean that don't even make no sense.
I don't even think I could turn 42 years old.
I thought I was going to be young for so long.
It's not even the older you get the faster this time goes.
So just embrace the moments and embrace the journey.
Next one.
You can't trust the news.
I learned this when you can't trust the news.
I mean I'm on the inside of some things where it was myself involved, my business involved
and other people separate scenario.
I know inside scoop of other things in scenarios with other people and I'm just watching the
news play something that just not even real.
It's just not even true or it's just this clip of something.
Could you imagine you're having a hard conversation with your wife or husband or kid and it's
a two hour conversation or it's a 10 minute conversation and somebody just clips the
worst 15 seconds of that conversation and then they put that out there and everybody's
judging you like, I can't believe that he said you say that again and I'm going to smack
you.
Well, it looked like that but that ain't really what it was really saying.
What we were saying, I was telling a story of what somebody else said at school when I saw
him and now you clipped out somewhere and said that if you say it again I'm going to
smack you to my wife and that never was even what I said.
That was never the context of it but you only played 15 seconds and so just be careful
what you can trust in the news.
Don't believe everything that you read, don't believe everything that you see because
they're just going to feed you what they want to see.
What's going to sell the most tickets and give them the most views and the most viewers
and all that stuff.
Now maybe half the time it's real and it's the truth.
Maybe 90% of the time it's real and the truth.
There is a lot of truth but there's also a lot of fake and that's why I learned and I've
always tried to operate this way.
First of all, believe none of what you hear, half of what you see, right?
That's what you've heard.
Believe none of what you hear and half of what you see.
You heard that term before.
Believe none of what you hear and half what you see.
How many times have you heard this about a person you meet the person and the person's
unbelievable?
How many times have you heard one thing and really you get down to the bottom of the store
and it's not really even the truth.
It's not even a real thing.
So I just learned, don't judge a situation or a person until you know that person until
you know that situation.
Otherwise I'm not trying to be fooled out here and thinking that this is great because I'm
watching on the news and said it's great but it really ain't great.
That's called marketing.
I've watched some commercials make skittles, you know, no disrespect to skittles but
just you know, skittles make it look like skittles can make you just live a happy life like
ain't a worry in the world.
It's just unbelievable.
And when you dig into it to sugar and some of the things in skittles can be banned in
some countries and we feed them to ourself and to our children because it's so bad,
you know, the health is so bad for your health.
Let the marketing say it, man, I'm watching TV.
That looks like it's unbelievable.
To me, this is great, you know, for me.
And so you just never, never know.
But what I do know for sure is that negative news travels faster and bigger than good news.
I mean, if something good positive happens, that maybe gets out there a little bit.
Something negative happens.
Travels everywhere. Why is that? I don't know, but what I do know
Is that I like to focus on the positive and not try to be involved in listening and speaking too much on the negative
But what I do know is that years and years and years ago in our business we created
something that to this day plays out on a on a weekly basis
Called the good news and we share the good news in our organization and in the reason why we call it the good news
Is because we know that the news often times has so much negativity if you watch the news tonight
You'll see it's gonna be more negative and it we even for this is holiday season
It should be more positive
I bet you that thing has more negative than it does positive in it
And so we want to have the good news spreading all the good news to people because we know how much of the world gets
Pumped on the news with negativity and that negative news travels faster. They say negative news travels around the world before
Good news has a chance to put its pants on
What are you contributing to next one learn to not give a
bleep
Only to get better
Okay, learn learn learn only learn not to give up you know what
Unless you're unless you're using it to get yourself better only that can you hold on to meaning this
There's always gonna be somebody out there with something to say about you negative
And I feel like I was just preaching this to my kids my
Daughter and my son were becker in an arguing, you know any you guys got kids
You know what I'm talking about one minute. They love each other next minute. They want to fight each other
And so they're arguing over something and this one's all upset because this one said this to the other one
Oh, this one said this or this one stuck us tongue out and I'm always using that as an opportunity to be a teacher moment
And say look daddy don't give a shit people say
Okay, I want you to learn at a younger age and I learn to stop giving a shit with this person says about you
I don't care because the only way I care is if I put that in my little box. I think
What's the name goggins he calls it is cookie jar
He says he got a cookie jar and he puts anything in that jar mental cookie jar that motivates him that somebody said about him
or something that happened to him that he could go grab that cookie if he needs a little fuel
I only keep the things that are going to help me to where I'm like man. Thank you for that
I appreciate you hating on me so much you have no idea
If I was petty how many people I would thank for breaking all these records right now because there's a small list of them
And I would just read off what they did
I'm just so grateful for that because if it wasn't we wouldn't have the fuel to do what we're getting ready to do
Glory to God though. I know where it comes from first
But but the situation is you got to learn how to only use the negative things that people say about you
For your good otherwise we got to let all the rest of it go
It's like waste like your body does like it you feed your body food
And you chew it up and it dot just and the stuff that's that it doesn't need that's not good
It just passes it out as waste and then it keeps and nourishes the body with the rest
That's what I want you to do with hate
Learn how to digest the hate learn how to digest the negativity and learn not to give a you know what
What people got to say unless you're going to only use it to make yourself better
But you can't be letting what people say hold you down
You can't be letting what people say get you down
You can't let what people say stop you from pushing pushing forward
You can't let what people say make you feel better or whatever like
Like I promise you to go to the next level you got to stop giving it and you know what in the higher level you go
The more capital letter not give it up
You know that you need to be in order to go to the next level next thing up
Only got a couple things left
next thing up
Is forgive people you got to learn how to forgive people not hold on to
grudges
It doesn't mean that forgiving people I got to hang out with you all the time or
We got to have the same relationship that we always had or you know whatever but just
Learn how to in your heart truly
Forgive people for the things that they've done that have bothered you or they've hurt you or whatever
And give people to benefit a doubt even if you're a bigger person
Like sometimes it's hard to look and say man. I would never do some stuff like that. What else because you're not that person
Right, and so I would have done some stuff like that
20 years ago
This person is still doing stuff like that
I feel bad for the person because they haven't had the opportunity to be influenced by the mentors and people
That I've been influenced by or the experience or they haven't listened they haven't humbled themselves to grow
From from from certain things so they wouldn't view life in that way and it has to be a very miserable life to live for them
And so it's like man, I forgive you. I feel bad because if I was that person
My life would be miserable. I don't have time to be that negative. I don't have time to be that toxic
I don't have that because I got so much
Stress automatic. I got so many other battles. I got to fight
I don't have time to be worried about fighting little battles or carrying all this negative toxic energy on me
About every you know Susan Tom and Charlie out there what they did what they said what they did to me wrong or whatever it is
I don't have time for I don't got the energy. I need all that energy
Focused on what's gonna get me to the next level and so the only way I'm using any of that energy is to make it positive
But you I think really the only way to be joyous and to be like in a good spirit
Like you could use some of the stuff and make yourself better
But you could be miserable and angry to your husband your wife your family your children your spouse
But you could go use that negative motivation and win a world championship
But what is it for a man or woman to go win the world championship in this and then lose the world championship or or not
Even make the playoffs in your family life or in your business life or you know, whatever it is
But you won one over here. I'm talking about healthy to do it healthily
I think you got to forgive the people that harmed you or hurt you and let go of some of these things and give people the benefit
of the doubt and
Don't forget this is what this is what my mentor taught me years ago and I understand I
Still fall short man. I'm not giving you things from sitting on a throne. I'm not a perfect person
I'm just throwing out tips that have helped me and and I hope to continue to pass the test
God
My mentor said hey listen, you know the Lord's prayer
Okay, for those you that don't know like in the beginning. I don't even know the Lord's prayer
That's the same thing as the our father
Okay, so the our father
Okay is is you look at the segment of it that says forgive us
As we forgive those that trust pass against us
So he taught me and he said what that says is that is that I have to forgive those
I'm asking God to forgive us forgive me as we forgive those that trust pass against us
It's always like if you can't forgive
How you gonna ask God to forgive you right you're asking for forgiveness, but you don't want to give no forgiveness
You're asking for money, but you don't want to give no money
You're asking for love, but you don't want to give no love. We're in the world. Is that work?
You give what you get you get what you give
And so man that that took me because I'm like, oh man Lord knows I need a lot of forgiveness
Especially at that point in my life
Man, so I better start forgiving some people
I better start asking for some forgiveness
And so man, I'm telling you this is this is something that may feel weak
But it's really
carries a lot of power with it and so maybe consider forgiving some people giving people to benefit a doubt
I understand we're all human. I also understand there's a time in a place. I also understand you know
Sometimes people you got to keep them at a distance
And there is a time where you got to stand up for yourself
There is a time where you have to defend yourself and and I understand you know all of that stuff
next one and last one
Is and there's more things, but this is just what I came up with for for today, but the last one I'm gonna give you is is
Consistent prayer with focus to belief is a superpower
Consistent prayer
With a focused belief
In my experience is a superpower
mean it
There's something that you that that you want to make move in your life within reason, okay?
And and I'm looking at that with with the focus and attention on it and
I'm praying for that with belief
Focus belief even if it don't happen in a month, but just focused belief and attention in my spirit that this is what I'm
Believing is going to happen. This is what I'm trusting in faith is gonna happen and
And and just having consistent prayer with that in my experience is like a superpower you do with that what you want
You do with that information what you want may not be relevant to everybody may not be something that everybody can relate to
But it's something that I felt like I had to get out to you
Speaking as something that I felt like I could get out to you if
This helped you in any way shape or form if you think that this could add value to others
You know, we don't make money on this thing it costs us a lot of money to put out there for people
We love to hear if it's if it's making value, you know to people but could you just help us by just sharing
the podcast can you get some other people hit to it can you share it if you thought it made a difference in your life
Hit the send button hit the share button
Write a sentence with an incentive to some people that maybe we can impact together and as always
You know, you know, we appreciate it. We appreciate you
