Count money man, my stack riches.
I tried to try and told them I'm a beast.
But what's up gang?
We're going to the broadcast.
Stop it, areas here.
Get ready to do that.
That's the Potter County word for bank right there.
We have to go get it.
We got to tell them, tell precious perm.
We got to hit this road, make some money out.
I'm making a shake.
Now how long you and him know each other?
Evan and I probably like what?
I don't know, four or five years.
Four or five years now.
What's that longer than that?
I don't know.
Six, seven years.
Yeah, we've been on each other for a while.
Think about Evan and I.
We've always kept in contact with each other.
We're always bouncing ideas off each other.
If I have a problem with an athlete, I don't hesitate to ask for Evan's advice because I
know how cerebral he is.
He's seen a lot of different things.
I'm not prideful in any way with our athletes.
I wanted to do what's best for them.
Anything good feedback from solid coaches is something I've been a big fan of always.
And Evan's always been really solid with me on that.
So, being a coach, how long have you been a coach assignment?
Me?
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Since he's gotten to your ring, the math factory.
Oh, about a year, over a year.
He's making huge strides by the way.
Yeah, yeah.
That's what I was trying to put in for you all who don't know.
Simon's a beast, man.
Yeah, people know.
He's got a lot going on.
He's coached him on a mat.
He's a beast.
I'm not thinking.
Yeah, he is.
Not when I come to mat factory, it's humbling.
Yeah, you know what I mean?
If I'm like, get a humble to best it on.
When I get to hold of me, I don't go home feeling like he will humble to best it on.
I got humble yesterday.
Perm, I get my car.
I get my car sometimes.
I'm like, I got it today.
He busted my ass in there today, Perm.
I messed up today, but I can't.
He don't say about two words the whole way home.
He must sleep.
I can't believe it.
I can't believe it.
I can't believe that Simon can come in and do that and then go right to, you know, 20
meetings in a day.
That's insanity.
Right.
So he's going in there and just like, you like, you ain't tired?
I got 22 year old cats that go take a 45 hour nap right after, like, I'm going to bed.
Oh no, we can't.
He's going right to work.
Yeah, I know.
It's amazing.
Team no sleep.
Team no sleep, bro.
Got to grind it out.
Attributes of the best fighters or grapplers that you've trained.
You know, you were asking me, you know, when you're interviewing and looking for somebody
what do you look for?
What are the attributes of best fighters or grapplers that you guys have trained?
I'm going to shoot out a couple of things and I use you to a couple of things and then
I have an idea.
So I think family is huge.
Knowledge of self.
So whether that be your faith or be who you are as a person in your morals and your mission
statement, your compass, you know, who you really are.
Passion.
Yeah.
Passion.
Passion for sure.
Self confidence, you know, you know, not in a cocky way, but in a way like the champions,
the guys that, you know, the national champions I've been around have been lucky enough to coach
and wrestling and then grab and, you know, grappling world champions and then made champions.
They all have that, you know, they have the Cody Law that Dalton Rasta, you know, you
talked to them.
You know, they're going there.
You know, you know, you have the conversation, you know, with them about what their goals
are and they already know that I'm going to be this like they look at you like proof and
they want you to almost say, really, that's that.
I don't know if you could do that.
Like you don't think so.
You don't think so.
I'm going to do I'll prove you like they use that, you know, as fuel if you give a little
bit of fuel, they want that.
They feed on that fuel.
So I mean, I love that when I have conversations with athletes and they, you know, like I'll
prove you, I'll show you they chip on a show.
People do it.
Like it's usually like it's usually something.
I remember for me, the chained the turning point in my athletic career wasn't any kind
of accomplishment.
It was my college wrestling coach, Pat Bacora, when I won one of the most legendary coaches
in NCAA athletics.
I remember my freshman year, got to the end of the year and you know, he had recruited
another athlete at my weight class who was a blue chip recruits, they championed Dapper
Dan winner.
I love hearing this story.
Great.
Great athlete and you know, I remember he was coming to take you spot.
He was taking my spot.
And I'm like, I was next in line for this spot.
Like that's my spot.
And obviously I didn't do enough to, you know, in my mind, like maybe so I said, you know,
I remember sitting down having a hard conversation with myself.
Like I got to stand up and coaches intimidating.
Like he's not, you know, he's Italian.
Like he's hard nose, tough love.
We talk about.
Remember, make it scheduling a meeting with them.
I got to talk to you coach like, all right, here's the time.
Mimi, I have a 15 minutes open.
So I go into his office.
I walked in and went and set up coach.
I said, I feel bad that you had to recruit that wrestler because that's my spot.
And he said, oh yeah, well, why do you think that?
And I said, well, I'm going to, I'm going to, but I'm going to prove you.
I'm going to prove it to you that that's my spot.
There's going to be a question in your mind that's not my spot.
And I remember like I said, one day, you're going to look at me and say, you're one of
my boys.
I told them I said, looked at me in the eye.
I said, my dad taught me, you know, as a kid, like if you mean business, you
look someone in the eye and you tell them what you, what you're going to do and you
let them know you're for real.
And I did.
And I remember my dad, my upbringing, my parents, like if you look someone in the eye and
shake their hand and you say something, that's, that's it.
That's your family bond right there.
That's, that's it.
So I luckily I had that and I said, I get made that connection with coach and that changed
me my rest of my life.
I, I got to work with the strip matter brothers and, you know, my teammates that summer,
they said, here's what you just said, what am I doing wrong?
Like you need more, spend more time here.
You need to be committed to do less of this, more of that.
And it got me on the right track.
And then, you know, all the rest was history.
I won the wrestle off.
Coaches my boy, you know, it was, it was a, it was a journey.
He didn't take your spot.
So I love when kids come to me, you know, and do that.
Kids, you know, you know, young, young men come to me, look me in the eye and tell me what
they're going to do because that gets me excited.
And I'm like, okay, I, will you put it and I'm putting it, I'll put it into.
Right.
You know, Evan, you know, I, we were just, we were just,
we were talking a little bit and you said the first thing is you talk about their spouse,
you know, the, the wife.
So, you know, Isaac, you're married, you have a child, you're a doctor, you own your own
practice, your own car practice, a bunch of places.
How many of those things you got?
We have seven offices.
Seven of those offices, you're, you own the mat factory, you're training grapplers, you're
training fighters.
Constantly, you guys are traveling at different fights.
Vinny just was in Nashville.
This one, I mean, that's, those are typically weekends, you know, that you're doing stuff
like that.
Evenings and weekends and stuff like that.
So talk to me about the importance of a supportive spouse to do something like that and, and how
you guys, you and your wife are able to make that stuff work because that's the first thing
my mind goes to because I know and my line of work and the things that I do, there's no
way I'd be able to do it, you know, without my wife having my back.
You know, we say, you know, two things that your spouse is either on your side or on your
back.
You know, and to me, one of those two places.
And it seems like, you know, you, you have to have that type of support in order, in order
to win.
So what, what, how important is it to have a supportive spouse?
I mean, speaking from experience, personally, I mean, I think that it's, it's the most
important thing, you know, it's a decision that you really got to spend a lot of time, you
know, and evaluate who you want to spend the rest of your life with because you want
someone on your team, right?
And it's good that they know who you are, you know, through and through.
So I think that was an important process for me.
And I've been blessed.
My wife is, she knows who I am.
You know, she knows my, my schedule.
She supports me.
She knows that, you know, I love helping athletes and she's behind it.
You know, it's awesome.
And you know, I get long from a long day.
She has, you know, she's cooked dinner for me.
I spent, we spent our quality time together.
And you know, without that balance in my life, you know, having that we talk about balance
all the time, I mean, it wouldn't be worth it.
So I mean, I'm blessed in that fact and you know, just having like guys like Evan and other
coaches, Dempsey, Dom, around to help manage everything.
It's been, you know, great.
But at times I needed to spend time with my family and those guys pick it up too.
So it's, it's good.
You know, having a good, having a great support system at home is, it's everything.
I couldn't do it at all.
I mean, it wouldn't, wouldn't make sense.
What's going on in your head, Isaac, when, when you're talking about, you know, your
45 years old, you're still growing, you're still getting better, you know, on the mats.
What's going on in your head about, you know, how you're able to do that?
Most people 45 years old, you know, they're thinking, I'm getting old.
Done.
You know, I'm done.
I'm slowing down.
45.
I'm already saying I'm washed.
Right.
What is, what is going on in your, in your mind?
You know, I remember, when I started, or is it the chest here?
Is it?
Is it?
It's over there.
You see this is the truth to the power.
You got to meet on it on a chest.
Clip it off.
I'll teach you guys to spread it around.
Give it to my obese.
This is for you, my son.
That's a suntan lotion.
This is the toughest guy you ever seen who can drink with a lick.
Light weight.
Light weight.
You know, I mean, I think getting back to, you know, what it means.
What was the question?
Yeah.
I always said chest hair and I was like, that's right.
I forget.
We'll zoom in on that, Giovanni.
We got to really show what we're working on.
45 years old.
45 years old.
45 years old.
So in your still looking like, man, what about to do?
How do you do that mentally?
So when I started Giu Gitsu, I kind of did it because I didn't want to wrestle,
I mean, wrestling's hard, right?
I was late 20s.
And I was like, man, wrestling, I don't know if I can, I love the competition.
I'm like, this is way easier.
It's not nearly as physical.
Still had some physicality, you know, injuries and everything.
But I started it based on that.
And then I kept saying like, you know, at some point, I'm going to have to change the way
I look at things and the way I compete.
It's only gotten more and more and more physical and mental.
It's never ended.
I see guys that are 10 years beyond me that are doing more than I am.
So I'm like, holy cow.
I mean, I think that, you know, I've already been served adversity with the injuries.
You know, I understand that part of it.
It's part of the game.
It's part of something we sign up for that, right?
So I know how to handle that.
Luckily, I'm in a profession that can really help me speed that up.
And I have good doctor friends and all that stuff.
So that helps.
But I think that people limit themselves.
And they use age as sometimes as like, hey, when I get this old, I want to stop.
I see my former athletes and their 20s that just completely give up on everything.
And it breaks my heart because I'm like, guys, you don't have no idea.
You can do this stuff forever.
Like literally I have 60 year old men that push me to my limits, that are world champions,
that are, it's amazing.
So I think this sports great.
I think Jiu Jitsu is an unbelievable sport because it's timeless.
I got some of my favorite Instagram people to follow like the Jiu Jitsu grandma.
She's like 70 years old, can just compete in it.
Yeah, 70, 70.
It's just grandma's just going.
Yes, grandma's here excuse.
Yeah, I ain't gotten to that.
I never did know Jiu Jitsu.
Hey, I'll tell you, it grappleings not for everybody.
It's definitely not for everybody.
But for like, people like wrestlers, it's great because, hey, you're already past all
that.
You know, they get weirded out sometimes by the nature of it.
But you're already past all that.
You're confident in your sexuality and your manhood.
So you know what?
What I'm pulling out of this is he's not looking to the, you know, the grandma.
Jiu Jitsu grandma, she's like, she got to be one and one and one and a 10 million.
She got to be one and a, this whoever this, this guy that's 10 years older than you, it's
pushing you.
Six years.
We got to figure out who that is.
Yeah, that's, that's a one and a, right.
In a million, one and a 10 million.
So you're not focused basically on all the people that say they can't or you can't, you're
looking at the one person who's doing it and saying, well, there's my inspiration.
Yeah, yeah.
Then I crowd.
Not on the crowd.
It's one that's standing out.
We'll say what if he can do it, then I can do it.
If she can do it, then I love to focus on those people because they give me inspiration.
I love being inspired.
I love it.
You know, I love, I love talking to people that are, you know, before, before you, you know,
the majority, not everybody, but a lot of people I would be around that were into the whole
martial arts thing.
You know, they start getting a 50 and they have a different mindset of, I'm done.
I'm going to help you, but my body's jacked up.
I can't do this no more.
You know, a lot of, I can't, I won't, I don't feel, you know, I'm old, I'm old, I'm old.
And you have the opposite mindset and, and opposite approach.
So Evan, let me ask you since you've been, you've been spending a lot of time recently
at the MAP factory, but you're not always there until recently.
You're there, and then you've been in a lot of gyms.
Yeah.
But what do you see special in the, in the MAP factory in, in Isaac?
What do you see?
Uh, I think most importantly about Isaac is that he's a human being that leads by example.
He walks the walk.
He not only leads from the front physically, but he leads from the front morally and ethically
and attitude wise, positively.
And I've been in some rooms with coaches that have the highest names that are on the list
for awards every year and all those things.
And I would put Isaac really, if not above them, but right alongside them.
And the reason, I think primarily for him is the passion of why he does it, why he shows
up every day, why he gives it his all.
He wants to serve others.
He wants to make them better not for his ego, not for his pride, not for his name, but
for the sake of the sport, for the sake of his passion to honor and respect all the things
at the sport and the people in the sport have done for him.
So I think the fact that the return that he's looking for isn't the same as the return
that other people are looking for.
Other people looking for chips, other people are looking for, for likes, other people are
looking for girls, other people are looking for cash, other people are looking for credit,
clout, whatever you want to call it.
He just wants a win.
And I want to win.
I love it.
So when he wants to win and I want to win, I want to win bad.
And so every day I show up and I try to out-couch him and every day he shows up and he tries
to out-couch me in a competitive way, not in a competitive way.
And hold each other accountable to be our best way.
How are we going to do this?
How are we going to take this thing not to outer space?
No, we're going outer space and back.
You know what I mean?
We got some stings to accomplish.
We're here for short time so let's do some great come on. I love it. He breaking backs and fixing them come on
Come on, let's go doctor breaking them and fixing them breaking them and fixing them come on man Isaac
How do you what do you think it creates what do you think it takes to create a winning
team winning atmosphere
Man, it's challenging because you know there's a lot of different things that come into play
But you know congruent team like being on the same page really important
You know and understanding that there's gonna be constantly it's like in business
There's constantly gonna be problems. There's constantly gonna be conflict. There's conf understanding those those things
Taking them in stride understanding what the big you know the big the big problems are
Communication is obviously the most important. It's the biggest struggle in any any kind of winning thing
Luckily, I've been around championship teams. I've coached championship teams. I've been on championship teams
And I think the biggest thing is the family you know you got to create a family atmosphere
That's what my coach taught me we talked about that this morning
You know you create a family atmosphere not just you know not a fake family atmosphere real family atmosphere
We love one another you'll do you want them to win more than you want yourself to win right when you start developing that culture
You know like the coaches they want you to win more than anything they ever they're ever gonna gain out of it
Your other athletes your training partners. I want my training partner when he's fighting
I'm I'm sick to my stomach, you know
I can't I want them to win so bad you start developing that because when you're competing it's hard
You have you can feel that energy
When your teammates want it for you. This is bad as you want it if not worse
So when you have that behind that's a championship team. That's it and you know I've coached
Long time 20 years going in 20 years high school wrestling in
We want a couple state championships and the teams that had it I've had multiple teams that had the talent
But the teams that won it were magical you said the coaches got to sit back
Didn't have to coach much the kids coach each other they held each other accountable. They made the bonds and
You know once that happens you can kind of just sit back and watch it all happen unfold. It's magical and it happens in all sports
love it
Perm for I start wrapping up anything else you got. I don't want to cut you we want to do we want to give you a chance
I'm a doctor now. He may have researched this. Oh, here's the
Let's see this is okay. I'm gonna go ahead Evan can get a shot. You can give a shot
So yeah, so what what we do here on the podcast what we're doing now is we're giving every guest to have a chance
To guess my my middle name and they got three guesses
So not are gonna get six guesses. So six is that I know your first name. So we do know that he does know that I know
Yeah, so we need
And we're given we're given today. We're gonna increase the we're gonna go to we're gonna go to 200 a piece
Okay, two if they get it 200 a piece and then if that goes in the pot it goes in the pot. Yeah, all right
Okay, we're gonna keep increasing it every time that somebody doesn't get okay, all right
Three shots what's going first? Can I can I ask a clarify? We got to be careful with him
Okay, he's a hustler. He's smart. I mean watch him. Watch him. Watch him. Yeah, anything you say
He'll use it. I ain't got nothing to say running for me to say
But let me see if she's oh there you go. I'm gonna I'm gonna go with Luis
No
Oh lunch is covered
Esteban oh
I get another guess yes Carlos. Oh
Isaac
Go biblical go biblical
biblical go biblical I
Can't get it the we Christian. No Paul
That's right. I was a Paul
I tried I tried you get three. Is that three? Okay Paul
One more for you think biblical you think in biblical I mean I think that's the highest percentage
James no
James I love it everybody try I know it's something simple. That's so great. I love it. I can't wait to get the
October first. Yeah, yeah, October first. Okay. We're letting every we're letting everybody know
But we first before anybody finds out
We're gonna first have to call Michelle Shea's here. Yeah, she's the first one. She's been here now
You better tell me I'm like I know come come to the pocket. She'll be the first one
What's up there there was a guy now you before we go?
You just assemble like Prince who me is it just assemble? No
He got a purple. Oh, I love purple. I love paint. I love watercolors. You see you got see the water bottle over here. You like that?
See that
Yeah, miss you around so look man see like being like you look like a banker
Isaac looks like a banker like how does it happen like anybody he looks like a principal. Yeah, you do like a school like a
Like a principal like a teacher
He's body, but how is it like your black belt says has anybody like you ever really got some altercation where no no
No, the best the best thing about a black belt that I can say is that you don't have like all that's gone long gone
You know what I mean? It's like you know
I wouldn't even think about anything like that unless I saw some kind of altercation
You know or had to protect my family like that's not like there's no I kind of lose all that in the process
All that's but you know I had that at one point in my life for sure
You know, I've been in my fair share of street street street. You know, right street
I've been in some bangers, but you know all that kind of like leaves you all that testosterone and all that you know
I'd rather save it for the mats where I can train. I'm like why would I get in a fight out in the street?
You know, I'm gonna scuff my elbows up in my knees
But as the ever came up and you know they got you like test up a love and yet the show that
I don't know if someone you know if so I mean I can see myself getting mad if like someone happened to my child
Yeah, like you know, I've been out you know, you know alcohols like the the worst deal
Alcohol is it that's what starts so I try not to like I get away from that, you know
Yeah, you know, so I mean I'm like Simon like Simon says don't put yourself in those situations, you know
I try not to now I mean if I had to I would but you know
I hope that would be for good reason. Yeah, I'd be disappointed in myself
Having you you like you toss in a couple times. Oh, he gets excited. Yeah, Jesse
His meter goes past you gotta go now, but that's why I keep coach coach on a stash, you know, I keep coach right there
It's like having a lawyer with you. He just we'll be back down. I keep you right. Yeah, do relax
I'm down. I've had to do that before like all right. What's what's this good?
I'm a detective of my people, you know, so you can disrespect me. Oh, you want I don't care
But if you disrespect my people that I get stupid and I'm working on it, you know, but it's a process
It is a process and hide it. I mean he's who he is. That's for sure next time I catch perman road rage
I'm gonna record it
We're getting better we're getting better because you see how relaxed I've gotten we just stay we stay with yeah
Perm per he used to get aggressive on the road all right. So last thing
Last piece of advice to inspire people out there freestyle
Freestyle having you look like you can freestyle they taught you out of freestyle in Toronto to look like he could
Purr because he's don't where but you're your originally Toronto
From Toronto with great with Drake with Drake you know what?
Drake went to school up the street from the house and and
He he was a kid then but he never really had it like a good reputation around around where I live
Yeah, no one knew who he was at that. Yeah
So then when he came out and his music was getting played everywhere
It's just like who's this guy with this naively voice because I got a naively voice
So I'm not a rep for another guy with a naively voice. I don't work. Yeah, no, so I was never really a Drake fan
So now I come to the stage everybody's drink drink drink drink drink. Oh, yeah, I guess I guess yeah
I guess but he's from there. He's from there. Yeah, he's from there put this I like a lot of this stuff
I like I like yeah, he puts the work into he's on my style
Well, he put the city on his back, right? Like he did a lot of great stuff for the city so shut up. Inspire us
Come on last piece of advice to inspire people out there look inside the answers within you
Bam, I like that. That's it the answers within you like that. Hey, man came prophetic with it. Yeah, he did
I'm gonna give self-invest don't be afraid to invest in yourself
You know monetarily, you know with groups with you know, surrounding yourself with people, you know Bible studies
Spends at least a proportion of your day investing in yourself
And a portion of your income investing in yourself. I think that that goes a long way
Amen
