Get ready to do the new day.
Get ready to do the new day.
What's up, gang?
Welcome to the podcast.
Grindcast.
Simon here.
And if it was easy, everybody would be doing it.
That's what we're going to talk about today.
So if it was easy, everybody would be doing it.
Typically, when you start talking to people in sports or in business or in life and
in general, you know, the first step is setting some goals.
You know, that's the first step sometimes people miss.
They just out here shooting blind, have no goals.
We're not going to talk about that today.
We're going to talk about people that do have goals.
And they started to set those goals.
They ain't big.
They're zoned in on something.
But now they start to get discouraged in the process because it's not easy.
It always looks easier from back here.
You know, you're watching somebody else marry successfully.
It always looks easy from back here.
You watch somebody else have some kids and everything's going smooth.
It looks a little bit easier from back here until you start getting into the midst of the grind.
Watching somebody fight.
This is how people get themselves in trouble in bars.
They start, they watch other people boxing and fighting and it looks easy until they get in there and start mixing it up.
So, if it was easy, everybody would be doing it.
And so, let me start out.
Let me give you a couple things that come to my mind with this situation.
So, I have some folks in my business that people, you know, you can look at them and you may say,
man, how are they here for 10 years and they're already receiving residual income of a quarter million dollars for the rest of their life?
And they don't really look too much more talented than somebody else.
But that's the situation that they're in.
I could think of people who have said this to me and they're shocked at some of the folks that have made it to the top.
And then, I know I could think back to some folks that are coming out of college, you know, over the last 13 years being in this business.
And I've watched them come up with, you know, master's degrees and 4.0.
And as soon as they take their exam, I mean, they pass it with flying colors and they can't make it three months in the business, six months in the business.
And so, you see the people that maybe are less qualified, some folks less qualified.
They're not that, shoot up and are living the life of their dreams.
And then you have some people that own paper should be more qualified, but they wanted the easy way.
You know, I think about JJ what?
You know, I'm a big sports fan if you haven't gotten that by now.
JJ what was typically a defensive freak every year NFL MVP defensive MVP, the Watt family is just all over the NFL right now.
But my man, JJ what?
One of my favorite pictures with him with his nose split and blood everywhere.
He was a walk on.
So people look at JJ what now and say, oh, what he's doing for charity and the millions of dollars that he's making and playing on national television doing what he loves to do.
How many people came in to college with a scholarship D1?
He had none.
He had no scholarship.
And so as a walk on, you're starting from the bottom.
Okay.
My man starts out from the bottom.
Walk on to the NFL MVP or we look at my man Baker Baker to playmaker, finally to Brown's got a team put together for me.
And so I'm looking at Baker went from walk on to number one draft pick versus how many people come into the league that were five star recruit?
How many people came in with Baker Mayfield, which fought prefer I mean, I'm talking about coaches in their house begging their parents to come.
They got a cannon for an arm and then all of a sudden, Baker's drafted first.
They drafted it all because what happens is when all the sexiness is done when you get done putting the visor on that you match your shoes and all of that stuff.
And you get now you got to go to work.
Now you got to play in the heat.
Now you got to play with some injuries.
Now you got to fight for your job.
Now you got to fight for your spot.
You might make some turnovers or some mistakes that you got to battle back from.
And what happens is when it's not as easy as it was before, people start quitting.
They start giving up.
And so what happens is when you look at the people that had to fight a little bit harder for what they got,
it seems like those end up being a lot of the people that are hard to get out of the league like Jerry Rice, like Tom Brady, like JJ White, like Baker.
You know, the people that sometimes have the hard road, they understand already it's not easy.
So that whole thing if it was easy, everybody would be doing it.
I need you to have a parallel in your life to what you want.
You have to understand if you have big dreams, there's going to be big obstacles.
If you have big goals, there's going to be big obstacles.
And here's the issue.
When people start wanting to do things that not everybody can do, you want to play at the highest level.
That means you need to be doing something that 95% of the people can't do.
It's simply supply and demand.
The world is going to give you the value that you typically bring.
And so what happens is the dream of doing something big is not easy.
And so once you get that vision casted, now you have to understand if it was easy,
everybody would be doing this.
So when you start going through the hard stuff, you start having these obstacles come your way.
We have to click at our mind and understand, listen, if it was going to be a walk into park,
if there wasn't going to be any mental battles, if there wasn't going to be obstacles or adversity here,
then everybody would be doing it.
And guess what?
Things that everybody are doing, typically you need to do the opposite.
Things that everybody is doing typically, you don't get a lot of value and they don't pay a lot for it.
So when I start thinking of people wanting to get in shape, if it was easy, everybody would be walking around with six packs.
All yoked up.
Everybody would have the body that they want, the health inside internally that they want.
But what happens is, it's not easy.
And so now we got to drink some vegetable juice that we don't want to drink.
We got to work out in the morning when we don't want to work out.
You got to push past some limits.
When other people start eating these foods, you have to do what's not easy.
Okay, running a business is going to be this way.
My experience in helping to bring a youth program to my hometown has been this way.
That when I start hitting obstacles, you know, what happens is people, they say,
oh, I want to start a youth program, or I want to start this type of a charity.
Good luck.
Good luck.
Like when you start to do things like that, understand when you see kids playing outside,
when you see kids getting bussed to do a field trip,
what you don't see is all the behind the scene things that it takes in order to make those things happen.
For every smile, somebody behind the scenes had to fight back tears to keep this thing rocking,
to keep this thing rolling.
And so what I had to tell myself in the process of inspiring minds fifth year now is that
if it was easy, everybody would be doing it.
How many people wish they can help a bunch of kids?
How many people love to work with the youth?
But what happens is you get to start taking that first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth,
all of a sudden you're like, whoa, I just rather write a chat.
I'll just rather, like, let me just capital, let me go on somebody else's dream that they created
and let me put some work in here.
Because if it was easy, everybody would be doing it.
In my journey in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that I started nine years ago,
I could think of people that all of these things are the same in life.
Remember I started out, so I went and played college football as a captain.
Business, I was already a millionaire by the time I started training Jiu-Jitsu.
Guess where I had to stand?
At the end of the line, like, you're starting as a rookie.
You're low, like there's a kid in there 19 years old with standing in front of me.
Here I am, nobody knows me.
Guy barely speaking English teaching me my man, Rodrigo, over there teaching.
I'm at the bottom of the line.
Nobody knows me from Adam.
I'm the look that is the brand new, the worst of the worst.
And here we go again.
Start it from the bottom.
You have to start from the bottom.
And so what happened is, all of a sudden over years, I start realizing I start coming in.
Now I'm at the middle of the line.
I'm at the front of the line.
And so people that are at the front of the line with me now that we came up together,
I could think of a bunch of people that started with us that were more athletic than them, per se.
I have some friends that have their black belts.
They have their own schools and their training and it's their life, it's their job.
We all would agree these people probably are not the, didn't come in as D1 athletes.
Didn't come in with a big wrestling background
or sports background, but these are the people that are animals.
But we started out with some people that athletically were gifted
and they're not black belts because that process of if it was easy to show up and humble yourself
and go through the blood, sweat, tear, everybody would be doing it.
Marriage, parenting.
All of these things, if it was easy to do them the right way, everybody would be doing it.
See what happens is if we want to be in that top 1% in anything that we're doing,
1% youth program, 1% marriage, 1% business,
you have to be willing to do things that other people don't do.
And so the way that I've always seen it, saw it, felt it, was I've always pictured
we're all starting out in a race.
But it's more of a marathon than it is a sprint.
It's a marathon with a few sprint bursts in there, but it's a marathon.
And so we start out with this pack of people in the beginning of the race.
And then all of a sudden we go a few miles and there's less people.
People start fading.
You get 10 miles, deep 20 miles, deep, whoop, not people start fading some more.
You start getting to those later miles, 30 miles and we're running with it.
I mean now everybody's in pain.
Everybody got blistered.
Everybody's tired, everybody's thirsty.
Now you start to be, now you're with the elite.
Now you're with it's not the most talented.
It's not the people with the longest legs.
It's the people with the longest heart.
And so when I start going through stuff in life, whether it's the race of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu,
we all started out as a pack.
Just keep on showing up.
Just keep on going.
Or in business, we all started out as, and then we separate.
See what happens is every hurdle, every time something would quote,
happen to me.
Okay, you ever hear people say, why is this happening to me?
I don't know why this is happening to me.
I'm such a good person.
I'm putting in all the work.
Why do these things keep happening to me?
They're happening for you.
It's part of the process, and you don't get a pass.
And neither do I.
We all have to go through everybody's obstacle or hurdle on this race that they have to go through.
It may be different.
I don't know what your exact struggle is.
Somebody's can be addiction.
Somebody can be a relationship.
A girlfriend, a boyfriend, a husband, a wife.
It could be a sick child.
It could be your own mindset.
It could be family.
It could be friends.
Everybody goes through their own hurdles, but we all go through them.
And nobody gets to pass, go.
Nobody gets their black belt in life without getting choked themselves a few times.
Nobody without getting some burn themselves, without having some issues themselves.
Everybody has to go through their own struggles.
And so the things that are difficult to do,
like this is why it's not easy.
If it was easy everybody, it's not easy to sacrifice.
See what happens in the world is in order to go up, you have to give up something.
Sacrifice, my good friend Mike Vasu always says, sacrifice creates opportunity.
See what happens is people want opportunity, but they don't want to sacrifice.
See we want to go to the next level, but we don't want to be coachable.
This is why it's not easy because now you got to be coachable,
which takes humility.
So you have to start in the business and now you got to humble yourself regardless of where you came from
and be coachable.
You might have to have some long nights in order to have some short days in the future.
See people want them short days, but they don't want to make the deposit.
of long nights or they think they've done it enough. No, no, no. See you ever
hear the term success is rented and the rent is due every day. Try that out in
your relationship. Try to say, you know what? I think I did enough for my husband
or my wife. I'm gonna cut my effort in half. See what happens as a parent, as a
spouse, as a sports figure, as a business person. So you don't get to arrive.
Okay? So what happens is you start to lose people in the process of your race
that don't that wanted easy. See what happens if you want them short days, you'll
get them but you got to have long nights. First, it's not easy to follow a routine.
What's like I'm getting up this morning. People say you can't do it all. Yes,
you can. I was up at five, prayed up before six red scripture books prayer started
hit the gym six o'clock this morning, shadow boxing hitting the weights already
and then took my daughter to school, came back, took my family to the airport, went to the
office, put it put in that work. See it's not easy to follow that routine. What time
are we gonna eat? What's the next meal in order to stay in shape? But it's easy to want
things. It's easy to say you want things, but it's not easy to do to be a part of that
one percent. It's easy to say you want something hard to study. Not easy to wake up. Like,
how many people already lose the day? They said they were waking up at a certain time and
they already start out with an L to start today. They already started out with the loss.
They couldn't do it. Lauren Clark went off five. They couldn't get up. They didn't get up till seven.
These are the things. This is where you win and lose. This is where if it was easy, everybody
would be doing it. These are those inches. You got to go out there and grab.
Let me close. Let me close with this. Friend of mine this week just sent me a quote to my phone.
So I'm thinking to you just reminded me of you. I think this would apply to
what we're talking about today. So it says, when heaven is about to confer a great responsibility
on any man, it will exercise his mind with suffering, subject his canoes and bones to hard work,
expose his body to hunger, put him to poverty, place obstacles in the paths of his deeds.
So as to simulate his mind, harden his nature and improve wherever he is incompetent.
So what this means to me is if you have a high calling, there's going to be high obstacles.
And these things sometimes are there, put in place to toughen you up, to strengthen you,
to prepare you for the level that you're going to. And if we were to skip this stage,
the person that you're called to be would not be strong enough to carry out the battle that has been
placed before you at that very given moment. Just look at sometimes look at your past and how
you went through some hard things. And if you made it out, look at how much better of a person
and how stronger you are in those areas in spite of and because of those exact situations.
It may be preparing you for the exact moment. And so we have to stop begging for things to be easier
and start praying and begging for more strength to persevere because in the perseverance
is what grows you to be the person that you need to be for that exact position that you're asking
to be put in at some point in your life. And so this week let's focus on not the easy road.
Let's take the road with a little bit more grunt work in front of it. Understanding that this is
going to prepare you for the moment that you've been called for. Understand I want you to remind
yourself this week as you have trials and tribulations both professionally and personally
that where you're going three years from today, five years from today. In the person that you need
to become in order to be prepared for that may take you understanding for this moment and reminding
yourself and speaking to yourself if it were easy. Everybody would be doing it and I didn't set
out to do something that everybody was going to do. I set it out for greatness. Thanks for joining us
on another episode of the grindcasts looking forward to spending some time with you guys soon. Salute.
