Be An Overachiever
Show notes
We have to adopt the mindset of an overachiever. Overachievers never think they’re working hard enough. They ask questions and seek mentorship. Overachievers do the things others aren’t willing to do. Be an overachiever!

Count money, man.
Money, man.
I'm trying to talk, trying to talk to my beast, but
what's up gang welcome back to another episode of the grind cast get ready.
It's a new day and today we're going to be talking about being an over
achiever over achiever.
Somebody that achieves more than what other people expect that they're
supposed to be able to accomplish based on their gifts, talents and and
what the world gave them.
And so we want to adopt the mindset of an over achiever today.
So over achievers never think that they're working hard enough.
You ever get around people and they just never they're always thinking about
what could they do next?
Maybe they didn't work out enough, maybe they didn't do enough reps.
Over achievers think that they're never going hard enough under achievers
always think they're working harder than they actually are.
So let's just stop there for a minute of, you know, the folks that
that can't get ahead, but they're not the ones pushing the most.
They're not the ones sacrificing the most.
They're not the ones going to hardest, but they always seem like they
think that they're working the hardest under achievers think that they know
it all. You know, those are the people that think, you know, I ain't got
too much to learn.
Nobody can't tell me nothing over achievers asked questions and seek mentorship
in guidance.
I think I think seeking mentorship in guidance is the shortcut to the
process.
I think there's not a lot of easy money out there.
I don't think there's a shortcut.
I think a lot of people waste a lot of money, a lot of time, a lot of resources
thinking that there's a shortcut and it takes years and multiple lessons to
find out that the shortcut is really doing the work.
And so overachievers are aware that they don't know it all.
And underachievers, they start relying on things that they did in the past,
the past success that they've had in the past, they think that's going to
continue to carry them.
You ever hear the term of success is rented and the rent is due every single
day.
It's, I mean, that's the truth, man.
A lot of people think that because they did something 10 years ago,
five years ago that it guarantees that they're going to have some success
today.
And so we want to be the type of the people out there that are trying to earn
that every day through the process overachievers understand that their past
success doesn't get doesn't guarantee that they're going to have future
success overachievers adapt and reinvent themselves.
And they start to look at how can I move forward and adapt to what's going
on around me or reinvent myself to what's going on around me.
Underachievers, those are the folks that you see that are stuck in their way.
So again, underachievers, people that should be doing better than they are.
People that have enough gifts and talents to go to the next level, but they don't
really, you'll find those people, they, they're stubborn and stuck in their
ways. Underachievers spend too much time celebrating victory over
achievers acknowledge the win and get back to work.
And I think, you know, I want to, I want to stop there for a second.
And I think the key, you know, there's a quote that I've thrown out a few
times that my mentor, Jim Tressel, I've heard him say so many times is
that the test of greatness and the hallmark of excellence is consistency.
And so being consistent is, is one of the trademarks of anybody or anything
that you've ever seen that's been built into a situation of excellence.
And so overachievers, they acknowledge they did good last month.
We know we had a good week last week.
We know we had a good season last season, but we also know that it's time
to get back to work.
It's time to get back to the grind.
Underachievers, people that they wish they could do more, they know they
should do more, they know they should get to the, to the next level.
But those folks spend too much time celebrating victory.
They had a good month of January.
Those are going to be the people you look at.
And they're like, yep, they had a great month of January.
Then they celebrated all February.
Then they have a great month of March.
And then they celebrate it all April.
The one that takes it to the next level is the one that you just saw win
that game and they're back in the gym the next day.
The one that you saw just win that game, they're back watching video tape
the next day.
The one you saw win that fight, they're back training.
And the next week going hard, the people that celebrate too long, too much,
they find that those victories come few and far in between and they can't figure
out why.
And so the key to that is being consistent.
I think the ground rule, the basic fundamental and foundation of being an
overachiever, getting more done, accomplishing more than anybody thought that
you were going to be capable of doing and taking your own talents to the next level
is always going to be am I down to put in more work than everybody else?
Am I down to sacrifice more than everybody else?
Sacrifice is an investment into your future.
Sacrifice is you got to give up something now.
There is no way to go up.
There is no way to go up.
Oh, man, I don't want to miss out this time with my friends.
I don't want to miss out this time with my family.
I don't want to miss out this time to watch this video show.
I don't want to watch.
I don't want to miss out on you got to give up some of those things in order to
to go to the next level over achievers.
They understand that.
Those are the people you got to pull them back.
You got to you got to reel them back.
And so as we kick off this year, less encourage yourself and less encourage
others, but you first got to encourage yourself in order to set fire to others.
You first got to set fire to yourself.
We got to be overachievers today.
We got to overachieve.
Let's let's go beyond above what anybody thought was possible and capable in
2023.
And so that means we got to get we got to get right back to work.
So I know a lot of you out there getting ready to smash it in a month of
January.
Everybody's excited to get back at it new year new me new years resolutions.
We're right back at it in a month of January.
The real test for all of y'all is going to be how do you perform in a month of
February?
That's when people start letting their foot off the gas.
I was in the gym and it was packed the other day.
It was in the sauna.
And the guy said to me, man, it's never this packed today.
I said, just wait till February.
Wait till February, March at the latest.
This gym ain't going to be that pack.
The son is not going to be that pack because there is not a lot of traffic
going to extra mile.
And I'm underachievers.
They don't want to go to extra mile.
They're ready to celebrate that success they had in a month of January.
So what I want us to get focused on is do what we got to do in a month of
January.
Already have your head and your eyes focused on the month of February.
And let's get back at them and be consistent.
All right.
Thank you guys for joining us another episode of the grind cast.
Get ready.
It's a new day.
