Count money, man.
Money, man.
Stacked riches.
I'm trying to told him I'm a beast.
What's up, gang?
Welcome back to another episode of The Grinecast.
Get ready.
It's a new day.
And we're going to talk about living above the line.
My takeaways from the book by Urban Meyer, Great College football, well-decorated head coach,
national championship at Florida, Gators, national championship with Ohio State, won it multiple
different colleges and places before that and understand, you know, I don't know, I
forget what kind of urban Meyer was taking.
He did something.
I don't know if he was dancing or something.
Something happened.
I can't even remember what it was.
But, you know, I know there were some things he went through.
I'm not here to judge Urban Meyer.
I'm not here to judge anybody.
I'm here to judge.
I like the book.
I like the material.
I'm going to share some things that I think it has valued our life.
And so, he said in the book above the line, one of the notes I got written down is number
one, you got to set high standards.
That is the line, right?
So you got to set high standards for yourself.
Create standards that are aimed at excellence.
So in your personal life, in your relationships, in your business, in whatever you're doing,
aimed a line of here's the standard and the standard that we're aiming at is excellence.
You got to communicate that standard to yourself and to other people.
So everybody's clear on what that standard is.
You got to commit to consistently operating at or above, quote, the line, the standards.
Right?
Second thing is, he started talking about different leadership principles.
So he said some of his leadership principles, or that you got to continuously develop
your skills.
So this is coming from a well-decorated college football coach.
He's not saying, you know, his leadership principle is once you get to a certain level,
you could stop developing your skills.
You're good enough already.
He's saying that one of the key principles is that you got to continuously develop yourself
and develop your skills.
One of the key things he noted was that you got to try to build trust within your team
and within your peers, the people that you're doing business with, and the people that you're
leading.
You got to demonstrate your commitment to the goals of whatever the team goal is.
Here's what the team's goal is.
Demonstrate that you're committed to that.
You got to show the people that you lead, that you care.
You know, it's the, oh, you could see this in our office and you could walk in our hallways
and above the door, there's a quote that says that people don't care how much you know
until they know how much that you care.
So people got to know that you care.
You got to have moments of personal growth where you're self-reflecting on what can I
have done better.
You know, there's all so many times things happen in our life and we got the ability to
be the victim or the victor.
The victim is, I'm just blaming everything that happened to me on everything else,
somebody else, outside circumstances, all of that stuff.
The growth is in trying to take a little bit of ownership.
Sometimes you could take all the ownership.
Sometimes there's only a portion of the ownership, but there's usually something in there
that you could take some ownership of if you're willing to reflect.
Self-reflect.
Reflect on yourself.
Reflect on what has happened and how you could have done it a little bit better.
Set time aside to self-reflect and to seek feedback from others on what things can you do
better, what things can we get better at.
In the book, he was talking about some of his principles being like some tips to set
aside time.
Outside of setting aside the time to reflect and get the feedback, was set aside time to be
a student, to commit to being a continuous learner through books, mentors, et cetera, et cetera.
And we got to be adaptable.
We got to embrace change and be willing to adapt.
You know, recently I was talking to somebody that right now, they're not having the success
rate that they have in the past.
And they went all the way back to tracking it to saying, I think I didn't handle change
well when we switched over during COVID.
Because after COVID, a lot of businesses changed.
I know our business specifically had major changes, major adjustments, opportunities for
us to adapt.
Some people didn't adapt, some people quit.
Some people did adapt, some people left and went and did something else because they
didn't want to adapt.
Some people stayed, but they didn't adapt as well, so they're not having as much success.
One thing is for sure, is that over time, there's going to be changes and there's going to
be things that we got to be willing to adapt to.
One of the next principles he was talking about in his book that I made note of is talking
about how staying balanced.
And so in the book where he was talking about staying balanced, it was just consider all aspects
of success, not just achieving one specific goal.
So I think you could be balanced in your thought of success.
Okay, success.
It's not just money.
It's not just being a dad.
It's not just being a mom.
It's not just doing, but it's like how many areas can we have success at?
So I think when he was talking about, he's talking about being great in his many areas
that you could possibly be great in, but he'll tell you himself that it's very difficult
to buy the world's standards, achieve balance when you're pursuing winning a national
championship or being great.
Like I guarantee you if you were to watch him on his journey or any coach on their journey
of winning a national title, nobody would describe it as balanced.
We're just completely balanced.
It's not an excuse to neglect everything else in your life, but I think in my experience,
when I've witnessed and studied people that have accomplished big things, they did it
through not having a ton of what the world would think would be balanced because the world
may think of balances just with your time.
But I think if you just changed the balance in your mind as perspective of, let me try
to be great in a couple different areas of my life.
Let me try to see if I can be great as a dad.
Let me see if I can be great as a husband.
Let me see if I can be great in my business.
I think just aiming to be great and not let it just be one area of your life, but also
encourage yourself that if you're on the climb of something, you may not feel like you're
having a lot of balance.
And typically, if you're talking about time, at least, in my experience, the way to get
balanced with your time is to get imbalanced in the beginning and to get great at something.
And then that'll provide you a little bit of balance down the road.
Next thing he talked about was expecting to overcome challenges in universities.
But you got to expect to overcome them.
You got to expect greatness to happen.
Like having a level in your mind if I have great expectations, I have an expectation of
positive things happening, but you got to be able to overcome challenges in universities.
You got to develop a resilience inside of you.
And this is coming from the book, this ain't coming from me.
This is coming from Urban Meyer.
This is coming from anyone that has accomplished anything great.
In his book he said, you got to expect an overcome challenges in universities.
You got to expect challenges.
You got to expect adversity.
I think a part of the way to overcome adversities and challenges is to expect them.
I don't want to speak bad on my life.
I don't want to think negative in it, but to think that you're not going to have challenges
in universities, to me as a setup for you to have negative thoughts towards those challenges,
which any great journey is going to have challenges and obstacles in universities that you have
to overcome.
So if you expect them to happen, when they happen, you say, okay, there it is.
Now we're going to get around it.
Now we're going to get through it.
Now we're going to overcome it.
But we got to overcome obstacles in universities and develop a resilience about us.
What is resilience?
What is resilience?
I think of, when I think of resilience since we're on a football coach thought process,
I'm going to go to a video I saw Nick Saban say in his speech he was giving about resilience.
He was talking about toughness, mental toughness.
And I think resilience and toughness kind of go hand in hand.
And so resilience and toughness he was talking about is he was saying, if you live on the
water, if you live by the ocean, a lot of times you want to get storm windows.
You got to have special windows that can overcome hurricanes.
And he said, the way that they ranked these windows, the price of the windows and how
good the window was was not only by the thickness, it was about, it would tell you how much
pressure this window can handle without breaking.
And he said that raised the value of the window was based off of how much can this window
handle without breaking.
That's toughness.
How much can you handle?
That's resilience.
How much can you handle that's life?
How much can you handle without breaking?
That's developing a resilience about you of not dead can't quit no matter what I'm not
giving up.
Quitters never win.
Winners never quit.
That's the attitude of resilience.
I don't know what's going to come my way, but I know I'm going to keep on going.
I could take a lick and keep on ticking.
I'm a fall down seven times.
Get up eight times.
I'm not going to stop.
I'm not going to quit.
You got to kill me in order for me to go like Freddie Krueger.
We just got to keep, keep coming, keep coming, keep coming.
Every time they think you're dead, you just get up and keep, keep coming, keep coming,
keep coming.
Develop that resilience about you when it comes to challenges and adversity.
And one of the ways to go about it, you know, that I've mentioned in the past, you
guys, I'm sorry, but I know it helps.
Is my body and spirit?
You got to develop that resilience because you got to have a place to go where you can
take care of your mind.
You make your mind tougher by pouring the right things into it.
Body you get rid of that stress by handling it healthy.
You eat clean.
You get rest, all that stuff, and then spirit pouring into your spirit, giving it to a higher
power.
Dig it into that segment of your life, of the being that you are, your soul, your spirit,
connecting with that soul, with that spirit as you go through times where you need to
be resilient.
And then you know what ends up happening.
What don't kill you makes you stronger, makes you better, makes you bigger, makes you
faster, makes you wiser.
What's your all things that correlate to you having more growth?
And so it's all a part of the process.
The part of that process is, how do you stay positive during negative times?
How do you stay positive when other people would be negative?
How do you stay positive when your mind wants to be negative?
You got to get those thoughts out of your mind, replace the thoughts in the words with positive
thoughts and words intentionally.
You're going to have good days.
You're going to have some tough days.
Not all days are going to be great.
Not all days are going to be positive.
Just don't let it last long.
It's okay to get knocked down.
Don't stay down long.
It's okay to get negative to your human.
Don't get negative for a long period of time.
You got to fix it.
You got to change it.
You got to get it quick.
You got to reverse it.
You got to take control.
But you got to stay positive.
If you want a positive response, if you want positive out of life, you got to choose positivity.
CPR.
Choose a positive response.
CPR.
You need to choose a positive response in to stay above the line.
Below the line is all the negative things.
All the negative talk.
All the not doing the things that you want to do.
All the things you know you shouldn't be doing.
All the things you know that you don't want to do.
That's all the below the line.
You draw that line.
That's below the line.
Let's stay above the line this week.
Let's stay above the line the best we can today and this week.
And know as always, this helped anybody.
Don't forget to share it and pass it along to a friend.
And you know as always, you're so appreciated.
As always, we appreciate you joining us on another episode of the Grandcast.
Get ready.
It's the new day.
We'll see you next week.
Let's get it.
