Rain Brings Opportunity
Show notes
In the pursuit of greatness, you’ve got to develop grit & resilience. Everyone can shine in the sunlight, but it’s about how you respond during a rainy season.
In the same way that rain is vital for plants to grow, a “rainy season” in life provides the opportunity for growth!

Count money, man.
Money, man.
Stacked riches.
I'm trying to told him I'm a beast, but...
What's up, gang?
Welcome back to another episode of The Grind Cask.
Get ready.
It's a new day.
And rain brings opportunity.
Rain brings opportunity.
And so what I mean by that is, you know, sometimes, you know, I have friends of mine that are
that live in various parts of the country.
I got some friends of mine that were...
This story is...
And they were in Texas.
And it had not rained for so long that people wanted it to rain.
They were praying for rain.
And so me living in Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, which is a city that I've grown
to love, which reminds me a lot of my hometown of Youngstown, Ohio.
We all can agree that it's like probably one of the more cloudier spots, you know, probably
in the country.
We're not known for...
They don't know what he's mistaking us in the top 10 for the sunshine state, that's for sure.
And so when it comes to rain, I'm thinking, man, we get rain, you know, we get rain all the
time, right?
So...
But the people in Texas at this point, they were praying for rain.
And the reason why they were praying for rain is the rainfall was going to make the grass
grow and the plants grow and the things that needed to...
The crops grow, you know, farmers needed it, you know, the water system, you know, all the...
Like people...
They just needed some rain.
There was a problem because there wasn't enough rain.
And so I think in life, there's this balance sometimes of, you know, we think of the best days
for us and we think of the best days in the form of sunshine, you know, like, man, if you're thinking of a good day, you're thinking of like, man, you're self
outside, grilling with some friends, maybe sitting at the pool with some sunglasses on or on a boat, you know, if you're thinking about
man, some real relaxing, some great days, the fruits of your labor, nobody's really envisioning rain, but there's people that are
praying for rain if they don't get enough of it because I think just the way the world works is that without rain, things don't grow.
And so in life, you got to look for those opportunities when you have rain, you know, coming your way.
And I think so many people let the rain get them down that they don't grow because the human body isn't a plant, you know, it isn't a seed that just...
We grow if we choose to grow from the rain.
And so what I want you to do is when it rains in your life, I want you to seek for the good in it.
And if you could seek for the sunshine in the rain, the rain is actually what grows you, what puts you in a position of the sunshine that you envision.
So many people, you know, first of all, people don't not enough people have a vision, that's a separate topic that we don't...
Everybody out there, if you're listening to this, make sure you got a vision for your life.
And so once you get the vision, when you get a vision, typically you see the outcome of that vision, man, wish your vision. I'd like to do this.
I'd like to have this. I'd like my family to have this. I'd like to live here. I'd like to have a vacation here.
This is the vision. But very rarely do people put in that vision, the battle that comes along with making that vision a reality, aka the rain.
And so I want you to look through the rain, which takes faith, to understand that that's what sometimes you need to grow you.
And it's a time to separate yourself really. I think the growth in what separates leaders when you start to climb up levels is a lot of people can shine in the sun, but few people can shine in the rain.
And so you got to be able to shine in the rain, when there's obstacles, when there's a downpour in your life, when there's a season of your life where it's snowing, or when it's raining, or when it's cold, when it's not good for you, that's what I want you to let your heart shine.
That's when you got to let God shine. That's when you got to let yourself shine. That's when you got to go harder. That's when you got to come stronger. That's when you got to break through all of that.
Everybody's down when everything's going good. Everybody's around when everything's going good. Everybody got your back when everything's going good.
It's about, can you stand, stand the rain, are you willing to stand with me? Stand next to me. Do you want to do this thing together? Can you handle? Can we get through hard times together?
Can this relationship grow to the next level when we have storms in our life, whether it's us together or the outside world, but rain is going to bring that opportunity for you to see who is really meant to go to the next level with you.
Not only does it show you about yourself, these are times we got to get through, but it's also going to be on the side of you, you're going to have an opportunity to see little bit of rain.
Let me see a storm. Let me see how many people are sitting there with me in the rain. How many people will hold an umbrella for me or with me or together out here in the rain and how many people run and leave you in the rain.
So that rain brings opportunity because when the sun comes out again, everybody's going to want to be on your boat.
And so the people that you're going to want to invite on your boat or the people that stood out in the rain with you, those are the people that you're going to want to bring on the boat.
And so there's so much opportunity in the rain is the opportunity to grow the opportunity to look inside yourself and say, what things can I do to get better?
What can I learn from this? What part of this? Can I own? What is God trying to teach me here? What is the world trying to teach me here? Then what can I teach the world about myself?
What can I, what can I, how am I going to handle and put on my trench coat, put on my raincoat and cut out and go on a run in this raining control?
What I can to separate.
Let me see what other people do when it starts raining. There's so many opportunities.
If you look for it a lot of times, it may be exactly what you need. So grit determination, mental toughness, those are things that will keep you pushing through the rainy seasons, that mental toughness.
You don't need mental toughness if everything's going good. You only need mental toughness when things go bad.
And a lot of times, just like your body, to get your body in the best shape to handle as much as it can, you got to go through hard training.
Sometimes your mind to develop yourself as a leader, mental toughness, just the life will just deal it to you. And what happens is people that are destined for greatness, life starts dealing them harder hands, more difficulty, more challenges, the higher that they go until they say,
tap out even though my potential is over here to change the world. I'm going to tap out. If your mission in passion, if your mission is big enough, then your mission shouldn't be just about you, because if it's about you, you say, I'm tapping out.
This is a lot. I'm going to just relax. I'm going to go into a place of comfort and calm myself down. Now understand you got to take care of yourself to take care of others. But if your mission is so big, you got to say, no, all the great leaders, would it, would it, would it, would it gone to go through, would it, Jesus go through, would it, would it, would it, would it, would it, would it, would it, would it, would it, would it, great, president, so the United States.
Go through, what did your grandparents go through maybe to give you an opportunity. And so you might have to sacrifice a little comfort to take other people to the next level. If it's not about you, and it's not all about you, some of that rain is like, man, we got to do this. We got to stand out here for the other people. Most plants won't even grow without water. Most success doesn't even happen without a rainy season.
Challenges are inevitable. So you got the way to deal with them is I think you anticipate them.
Don't get caught off guard when there's a challenge when this person quits on you, you got already be ready for that.
When this person isn't loyal to you, you got already be ready for that. And I know there's only so much you could prepare for. But you got to anticipate there's going to be some form of challenges on this journey if you're thinking big.
And you got to, you got already state, you know, I had situation pop up recently where I was talking through.
All right, these are all the things that can happen. And I say, wait, wait, I just want to plan on here. Let's just plan for the worst case scenario.
I'm already thinking this ain't going to happen that I want to happen.
I'm going to be amazing if it happened. I mean, would just be awesome if it happened, but I'm not counting on that happened. And there's a good chance it's going to happen. There's there's a more than 50% I'm saying no, I'm only want to I'm going to pretend like that's not going to happen. I'm going to try for it to happen. But I'm going to pretend that this is not going to happen.
And then there's a couple of things I hope don't happen and I'm already projected like, yep, let's just say that happens.
So let's deal with the let's plan for hey, really right now and a not perfect scenario, are we planning for that? Yes, okay. That's what I want to plan for because I'm anticipating problems because I know more growth, more this more whatever comes with some forms of problems.
But pressure creates diamonds, you got to understand the more lives you want to impact the more money that you want to make the more pressure that's going to come with it.
Even look at man, who's the highest paid person on the football field a lot of times most of the time quarterbacks.
Who does everybody blame when the game is on the line, you know, and everybody screaming at him and you're down for and you plan against the best athletes in the world and you don't make it happen every that person is just all over the country getting blasted.
Think about the pressure LeBron James is under every time he walks out of his house steps out of the court has tries to have a sandwich like anything.
And the pressure a lot of times most of the time, especially in business more money comes with handling more pressure, more responsibility for sure.
You know, a lot of times you don't typically get more money and less responsibility. Usually it's more money, more responsibility which responsibility brings its own sense of what pressure.
But every miss shot every failed attempt is an opportunity to learn I see I saw Kobe Bryant talking about how he handled the pressure on the video and he said hey, if I missed this, this how you used to handle the pressure if I missed this shot.
Either way, I got to go back, I got to go, I got to get to work, I got to work and get better. I'm going to have to go back to practice and if I make the shot, I still got to go back to work. I got to get better. I got to go back to practice.
Every miss shot or failed attempt is an opportunity to learn just like rehab after an injury. Sometimes the setback is part of the setup for a bigger comeback.
You know, I've had some people that I know they got surgery and when they come come back from surgery, that part of their body is way better than it was before.
In sales, you know, rejection is part of the process. It's like playing through injuries. In life, you got to play through injuries.
If you play a sport enough, you're going to have to play with some injuries. That means there's there's things going on in your like, let's say you're in business, you're going to have to play with some injuries. Sometimes those injuries are people on your team. Sometimes those injuries are your heart is broke. Sometimes those injuries is your mind. Sometimes those injuries.
You got to play through injuries and you're going to have injuries and sometimes injuries happen to an athlete. And it's like, man, how long are you out? Man, I'm out six months. I got a friend of mine that had a surgery recently.
Six weeks, my man can't move leg up like this. Can't go nowhere. Can't work out.
Six weeks. And this guy, he loves to like bounce. He goes all the time. Six weeks.
And it seems like forever in the moment, but after those six weeks, he's going to be back at it. Hopefully it works well and it's better than before. But at times, you may get injured in life. You may get injured in business. You may get injured in a situation and say, this is going to cost me nine months of rehab.
You may get back to where I was. If you get hurt real bad, sometimes it takes you a year before you're back to where you back to where you were, you may get injured in your business. And it's like, man, I got to work super hard at this just to get back where I was a year ago. Or do you just quit?
You say, I'm just not going to fix my leg. I'm not going to walk. Well, no, you would never do that. We know we got to get to leg moving. You want to move around. We know you want to get your arm back moving. So people put a little bit more emphasis on it.
But when you're building, when you're going when you're pursuing greatness, sometimes you're going to get injured like playing a sport.
I want to challenge you to get like get the surgery done rehab. Sometimes your rehab takes three months. Sometimes your rehab takes 12 months, but you're going to come back. Don't you quit. Don't you give up. Don't you not go through the rehab process and put the work.
and don't start tapping out because if you plan on
playing a career of 20 years, 25 years, 30 years,
you're gonna have some injuries,
but you go through rehab and you come back.
Keep pushing through.
In your journey, there's gonna be in-between times.
There's gonna be those in-between times, seasons.
Don't confuse those times of transition
as a forever state.
Like when you're trapped in the moment
and you're going through a bad season
in your life, maybe you had a bad year, a tough year.
It's easy to think it's always gonna be like that.
You can't think that's gonna be your forever state.
This is just a year.
You go back to the rest of your life.
Go back and really dig in and think,
maybe you had a bad three-month, six-month.
You broke up with somebody, you were heartbroken,
and you ain't heartbroken over it now,
but you weren't 20, you weren't 16,
you weren't whatever, but you're good now,
you're over it now, guess what, you got through it.
But in the moment, oh,
might've felt like you, that was forever,
was never gonna be the same, never gonna be in an,
oh man, how you feel, but guess what, you made it.
Guess what, you'll make it.
It ain't gonna rain forever for you.
Failure is not the opposite of success.
It's just a part of it.
Thomas Edison failed a thousand times
before he created the light bulb.
I had somebody tell me in business,
because there's an idea I got,
I wanna try and my friend was like, hey, didn't you?
We tried this three times, didn't work.
I said, Thomas Edison tried a thousand times.
It's not about, is this gonna work?
It's about when is it gonna work?
I know it's gonna work.
It just might take me another five, 10 times,
but we're not coming up off,
and I noticed it didn't work three times.
We're gonna do another three times.
Sometimes in the process of rain,
you gotta work twice as hard for the same amount.
Like the same results, the same money.
Like sometimes in those rainy seasons,
you might have to work twice as hard,
because you're in a rainy season.
Twice as hard for the same amount of money.
Sometimes you work twice as hard for less money
for these periods of time.
But guess what?
Sometimes you work half as hard and you make double
because you got through the times
that were super hard and you work double but made half.
That's, it's hard when mentally you're like, man,
I'm making the same amount of money
or a little bit less money,
but I'm working way harder than I was working.
This don't make sense.
Yes, it does, to winners it does.
That's sometimes that's the way it goes.
Sometimes that's what has to happen,
especially in business.
Sometimes that's what has to happen.
And that's a battle that's won in your mind.
And then you'll have sunny days,
you'll have great moments.
And when you have these great moments,
you gotta remember just because you scored a touchdown
doesn't mean that the game is won,
that you already won the game.
You gotta keep pushing when you get momentum.
Keep resilience alive during wins
while your winnings keep that,
when you work that hard to start winning, keep working.
That's why you gotta have a wide.
What is it?
Does Dion Sanders, does he the one that says you gotta want it?
You gotta work it and then you win it.
I think that's what Dion says.
Excuse me, Dion if that ain't the right thing,
but I'm pretty sure that's what he says.
You gotta want it.
You gotta work it.
And if you want it bad enough and you work it,
you're gonna win it.
And it makes so much sense.
Because when you want it bad enough,
when that wise burnin' enough,
if you want it that bad man, usually great things happen
cause that means you're gonna work for it.
You can't be stop cause you're workin'
cause you're, I know hard work works.
Listen man, I know all these people with all this technology
and you gotta work smart, smarter, not harder, all that.
Maybe it's just me
and I'm in the process of trying to get smarter everyday.
Maybe it's just me, but would I have seen work
more than I've seen other things work
is that hard work works.
That I do know.
Maybe there's an easier way to do it, but I know
hard work works.
So you gotta work it.
You gotta want it bad enough that you're gonna work it,
that you're gonna put in that work long enough,
consistently enough, work, work, work, work, work, work, work.
And then you win.
You may lose a game, but what matters is
how do you show up for the next one?
You may have lost a month,
how do you show up for the next month?
You may have lost a person,
how do you show up for the next person?
You may have lost that presentation,
how do you show up for the next presentation?
The same drive that got you to score that touchdown
will push you to win the next battle.
And listen, as we close out, when you get down,
which is always gonna end up happening at some point,
but when you get down, look up.
Just go to gratitude as a start at least.
Grateful.
What are you having your life to be grateful for right now?
You got some kids that love you.
Some people don't.
Your parents around, do you have up-parent around?
Are you grateful for how's your health?
Your health is your health rocking.
Your wife or husband, next to you, you got a good friend.
What do you got going on good in your life?
If you look for it, like if you're like, man, nah,
I don't have none of those things, but I am healthy.
Don't take it for granted.
Don't take it for granted.
There's a sick person right now that has a bunch of things
you think that you want that would trade you for your health.
Gratitude, I'm a victim of it too.
Sometimes I get upset.
Sometimes I get down, sometimes I gotta give myself
a pet talk.
And I do.
Cause I'm human, just like you're human.
I get down, I just don't stay down.
You know what I like?
People get knocked down and boxing.
They're like, one, two, three, like yeah, you ain't got that many days.
You got like that many minutes, like 10.
You got to get up, maybe 10 hours and now you're stretching it.
We can't be down for 10 hours, but you definitely ain't got 10 days.
No, sir, no, man, we gotta get up.
We gotta look up.
We gotta have gratitude on all the things that we're grateful for,
not all the things that we don't have.
Okay, so one thing that I'm grateful for is I got you guys.
I got people, man, I miss a couple of grind casts, podcasts,
and I got people messaging me, yelling at me and everything else.
And that makes me happy that somebody's listening out there.
Sometimes I don't know if I'm talking to myself, all right?
Hallowed to you boy.
All right, let me know.
Tag me in something if you're listening to the grind casts.
If it's helping you, so I know we need to keep doing these things.
Can you tag me or can you, how about can you share this with other people
that we can impact?
But either way, I appreciate your time.
Thanks for joining us on another episode of the grind cast.
Get ready as a new day.
