Same Devils, New Levels
Show notes
When you get to new levels, you carry the challenges of the past with you. How you respond today should be wildlly different than how you handled it in the past. That’s the sign of true growth.

Count money, man.
I'm not a rich.
I'm trying to talk, I'm trying to talk to my beast, but
What's up gang?
Welcome back to another episode of the grind cast.
Get ready.
It's a new day and we're going to talk about same devil's
new levels, same devil's new levels.
So there's a lot of things that come to mind with this topic.
I my mind started going.
I saw a pastor, his name Stephen Fertic.
I saw him talking about this topic.
And I'm like, man, there's so many things that this reminds me of.
Same devil's new levels is you know, there's internal and external things
that reminds me of.
So internally, it's as you grow in life like the same things that used to
haunt you at times when you were younger, flaws, if you will, or things
that you had challenges with tend to creep up again down the road, even
when you go to new levels, it's like, man, this, this young lady or
young man had a temper when they were 14.
And now we're 34.
And that temper, even though you went to another level in life, now
that temper is causing you problems at your job or the way that you
respond it.
And now it causes you some problems because we still got the same devils
that were in us, the same things that were holding us back.
All the way back to when we were young, all the way to, to now at 40, at 50,
at 60, what are some of these things that you can look back on
and say, I'm at a new level of life.
But I'm still getting haunted by the same devils from when I was 10 years old,
13 years old, 15 years old.
I still, I still got to beat this.
OK. And then the other avenue of it is when you go to new levels,
you take it to, you take it to another level, every level comes with some
devils, right?
Some obstacles if you will.
And so you got to notice and recognize those
and learn from those experiences because life's challenges are inevitable.
So all we could do is focus on preparation.
We can't avoid it like every year, you know, maybe it's just because
I'm in business with a lot of other people.
There's a, I got partnerships.
I got thousands of new people that I come in contact with in business, you know,
every year. It just seems like every year, there's a new obstacle,
several, right?
And so I can't really even at times, I don't even know what it's going to be.
I couldn't even draw it up.
But what you could do is you could prepare the best that you possibly can.
Mentally, how do you prepare for that physically?
How can you prepare for that?
Because growth comes with responsibility and new levels bring new accountability,
a new responsibility.
And your old fears, your old doubts from your childhood or from things five,
20 years ago, those can resurface.
And so to go to the next level, your response now got to be stronger.
But you got to be able to identify it creeping back up.
We got to adapt adaptation is a sign of spiritual and emotional maturity.
Look at what it, look at what it would like.
Just look at what it means to adapt to certain environments, to different things.
You got to be able to adapt.
You're in, you're in one city, you're in a different city.
You got to be able to adapt and animals and things that can't adapt.
They end up being extinct.
And so if you're going to mature, you got to be able to adapt.
And the people that can adapt are the ones that are like, man, that's just the way I am.
That's just the way I am.
Like that gives you a pass to act whichever way you're acting.
You got to adapt to the situation.
Sometimes you're using a screwdriver for something that needs a hammer.
Sometimes you're using a hammer for something that needs a knife or something
that needs a screwdriver.
You got to be able to adapt different times, different things are needed.
And that's a sign of maturity.
And so you're reward for going to the next level.
And the progress that you've made is that you get to face bigger challenges.
Facing bigger challenges, handling them, overcoming them is proof of your progress right there.
And so that's why we got to aim to just grow because at times if you try to avoid just all challenges,
you don't get any progress at all.
You just got to develop yourself and the things around you internally that you could be prepared to face bigger challenges.
We got to embrace the growth in the struggle.
Because growth comes in the struggle and out of the struggle.
Resilience comes from learning during your past battles and then applying it to the new challenges.
Right? So man, we built resiliency.
It's like building up your immunity.
You know, a lot of times people come out and they're like these little kids.
You know, young kids, you sent them to school for the first time.
Everybody's getting sick because their immune system isn't built up yet.
They haven't been through the sickness, the illness.
They haven't built up the immune system the same way when you start to learn to grow through challenges.
It's not that there's not illnesses.
It's just it doesn't affect you as bad because you've become so big as a person.
Success in one season because we had success last season, just like a sports team.
You could think about this in life.
Success last year, success last season.
In one season doesn't guarantee success in the next season.
We got to evolve.
We start back at zero.
We got to evolve.
What do we learn from the last year?
What do we learn from the last season?
Every repeated challenge is an opportunity to practice patients, wisdom and faith.
When you go through hard times, you go through obstacles, practice patients,
wisdom, strengthen that wisdom, strengthen your faith.
New levels will reveal strengths to you that you didn't even know you had or strengths
to you that you didn't have that you start to have because you go to this new level and
you go through these new obstacles.
Don't compare yourself to other people and where they're at in their journey because
you don't know what made that happen.
You can only live your life.
Focus on your personal growth and your strategy.
It's us versus us.
It's you versus you.
Don't you?
You don't want to be the blamer.
You don't want to be the blamer.
You don't want to be the person that blames everybody else and everybody, every other thing
for why you're not where you want to be.
The only way you could take control over your life in a situation is if you say it's
on me.
I'm going to take responsibility for the growth of me.
I'm going to take responsibility for the response of me, for how I, my ability to respond,
my responsibility, my ability to respond.
That's what I can start to take responsibility for is my ability to respond.
So how does, how did 2025, when you look at 2025, how do you compare that to the
2024 you?
We're not looking for perfection.
We're looking for progress.
I just got done with a development session with somebody and I was telling her, like,
where you were six months ago, where you were this time last year and where you're at
right now is big growth, big progress.
Now can we do that again 12 months from today?
How's the 2026 version of you going to compare to the 2025 version of you?
You can't be the same person.
You've got to continuously grow and evolve.
When an old problem pops up, how are you handling it better than you did with the previous version
of you?
Come on, here what I'm saying right now, just think about this.
When an old problem pops up, how are you handling it better than the previous version of you?
The 2022 version of you, how did that version handle, handle the problem versus the 2025 version
of you handle the problem?
How is the 2026 version of you going to handle the problem because old problems are going
to pop up just to keep getting better at it?
Recognize triggers.
These are things that, like, how could we stop old problems from keep popping up?
Recognize triggers that bring the same struggles and proactively guard against those things.
That would go under the category of wisdom, but just look back and say, all right, here's
what I've learned.
I recognize these things typically bring struggles.
I've seen this happen multiple times.
These are the triggers for these things and now how do I proactively guard against those
things?
And so every time you go to a new level, yeah, there's sometimes the same devil, but
that, like, having strength isn't being, like, just so confident that you don't worry
at all or it's just knowing how to stand despite having some fear.
That strength, knowing how to stand up despite all that stuff, knowing how to stand and
walk through the fire, even when you feel some of those feelings, knowing how to muster
up the faith and build up your faith and the strength inside of you to walk through the
fire and look at past failures as training grounds, not as a blueprint for defeat.
Sometimes people, they fail or they have a setback and they're like, all right, I quit.
They're so risk avoid after that.
They don't want to adverse.
They don't want to, like, man, no way.
And okay, there's some wisdom in that.
But the only way you're not going to have any more setbacks or obstacles or failures is
if you just retire and stop doing anything.
So quitters never win and winters never quit.
You got to use your past failures as training for you, not as a blueprint that is just going
to, you're going to always be defeated.
Embrace the uncomfortable moments that come with growth.
It's the stuff that leads you to progress.
On the way to progress is discomfort.
And then stay aware, stay alert beyond your toes for challenges that look like old problems.
But they require new solutions.
You might need a new tool once in a while.
But just be aware that you could carry some of these old, same devils, if you will, things
that used to bother you 10 years ago.
You look back and like, man, this stopped me from being the best that I could be 10 years
ago.
This stopped me from being these were traits of me, things that I would do to myself to
self-savotage myself 20 years ago.
And you see them popping up again.
Be aware of that.
Conquer that.
Conquer those old devils.
Put them, put them to rest.
Because when you go to new levels, you're going to have new devils, new obstacles, but you
also sometimes take the same devils with you.
And we got to know how to beat those things by being aware of them.
All right.
But either way, what I know, either way what I know for sure is that the obstacle in your
way sometimes is the way.
Look back on your life and say, man, because of this hard thing, I don't know how I did it.
I don't know how I got over it, but I did get over it, and it made me a better this.
And it made me better in this area.
And it made me better in that area.
Is at times the obstacles, exactly what you need, every time you level up, every time
you go to a new level, you carry with you the experience that you gain, but you're going
to have some new challenges.
For the rest of our life, we're going to have new challenges.
And so the only way to not have new devils, new challenges is the change.
We got to change the way that we have relationships with that level, change the way that we view
these things, and understand that this is just a breeding ground to prepare you to be the
person that you're called.
to be and where you're supposed to be,
five years from today, three years from today,
by how we're handling the levels currently right now.
Keep going, keep climbing, keep growing,
keep striving, keep pushing,
keep getting back up after you get knocked down,
and we'll see you on top,
and we'll see you next week, same time, same place,
as always, you guys know how much we appreciate you.
Thank you for joining us on another episode
of The Grindcast. Get ready, it's a new day.
