Count money, man.
Money, man.
That grits us.
I'm trying to told him I'm a beast.
What's up gang?
Welcome to another episode of The Grindcast.
Get ready.
It's a new day.
And we're going to talk a little bit about what does it take to win.
And some of this was inspired by some things that I saw Nick Saban gave a speech on head
coach Alabama, one of the greatest coaches of all time.
You know, I think some of the things he was talking about was the key is your mindset.
And first, your mindset and then that of your team.
So a lot of times leaders will blame it on their team.
Well, they don't want to go to work or this one don't want to do that or this one don't
want to do that.
The first mindset that got to be right is your mindset as the leader.
And mindset, look at those two words mind set.
What is my mind set on mindset?
What is my mind set on and it starts with the vision.
A defined process of things that are going to help you accomplish that vision.
So a defined process, what is your process of things that are going to help you accomplish
that vision.
And then here's the key, the discipline to execute on that process every day.
Hear me out now.
Don't just let it go in one ear and out the other.
So the vision, the process and then the discipline to stick to the process that's going to
get you to the vision.
Like the like the difference between doing what you feel like doing and doing what you
need to do.
That's discipline.
Doing what you feel like doing versus what you need to do.
And sometimes people confuse the two.
What does it take to win?
What does it take to win?
It takes for you to do the things that you need to do.
Not the things that you want to do.
Not the things that you feel like doing.
That is a, this is a, this is a big one.
It's not just young people, young kids, grown adults got to get this down.
That a lot of times what it's going to require for you to win is going to be doing some
things that you need to do.
But they're not going to be things that you feel like doing.
You got to get yourself to do it anyways.
So oh man, I don't feel like doing them.
I'm not happy doing it.
So it must not be right.
It must not be for me.
No.
That's bullshit.
There's parts of winning on what it requires to win.
Period.
In anything is doing things you don't feel like doing in that process.
That's going to help get you closer to that result.
And are you able to focus on your vision or on your circumstances that day?
Very, very, hear me out on this one.
What it takes to win is we got to stay focused on our vision.
Not the current circumstances that day because out of 365 days, think about this.
365 days.
How many days do you think out of 365 days are going to be good days?
How many days you think will be average?
How many days do you think is going to be?
Bad days.
Like I wish I could have got that when traded that went in.
I don't want to lose any days.
But how about I give that card back to the dealer?
You deal me a new one.
I wish I can get that day back in a better form today.
Sup.
This was a bad day.
Out of 365 days, there's going to be some of those in there.
Some days where you got a headache, some days where you're in an argument with your spouse.
Some days when things don't go well in traffic, some days when you get in a fender bender,
some days when your team doesn't perform, some days when you lose, some days when you're
bought, when you get injured, some there's going to be some bad days.
Rain, snow, hail, tornado, hurricanes, bad weather, there's going to be some days out
of 365.
So it's about on those bad days, can you stay focused on your vision and on your mission,
can you give your best effort that you could possibly give on the bad days?
That's the key to winning.
One of the keys to winning is how do you perform even when things aren't going well at home?
You're able to perform somehow.
Even though you don't feel good, you're able to perform somehow.
Even though you got bad news, even though you're under a bunch of stress, you're able to perform.
Even though you got in a fender bender, even though you got in a car, even though you got
in a little accident, even though you got stuck in traffic, even though, even though you
got a cold, even though you got a headache, you're able to perform.
You're able to stay focused because the higher you climb, the more discipline you're going
to have to be, the more you're not going to be able to give into your emotions because
you're gonna have to make the right choices.
Your decisions will determine your destiny.
As an adult, I'm a grown man.
I'm a grown woman.
Yes, you are a grown man, a grown woman.
So yes, you have the right to make any choice that you want.
But understand some of those choices and decisions
are gonna help you to personally fail.
And if you wanna drag yourself down
by making bad decisions and bad choices,
that's one thing.
But you don't have the right to make the choices that are bad,
that affect everyone else and cause the whole team to fail in winning.
So what does that mean?
It means in leadership, I just had a dude turn 21 years old today
in my office and he's a stud.
Shout out Happy Birthday, Braden.
And I'm like, man, I'll text him Happy Birthday,
but I spent 10% of the text telling him Happy Birthday,
90% of the text telling him even though you're only 21,
you can't do only 21 year old shit.
Heavy is the head that wears the crown.
It's easy to, it's hard to climb the mountain like you have,
but it's easy to fall off.
You wanna make grown man money,
you gotta act like a grown man.
You might need to act 31 or 41, not 21, but Happy Birthday.
Because when you're in leadership, when you climb,
you have a right to make bad decisions,
but if you wanna be in leadership,
you wanna be at the top,
you don't have the right to make bad decisions
that are gonna affect the rest of the team negatively
in leadership if you wanna win.
You have to be responsible for your own self-determination,
self-determination.
That's why it ain't called others' determination.
Other people ain't determining where you gonna be.
That's why they call it self-determination.
You're gonna have to have self-determination on your journey
in doing the right thing because most people
ain't gonna encourage you,
most people ain't gonna lead you down the right path.
Most people ain't gonna wanna pay the price.
You gotta be determined yourself.
And understand no matter what role you play your plan
or role on your team that the individual
makes the team what it is.
The team is made up as a bunch of individuals.
It's the whole, if you wanna make the country
a better place, start with yourself.
Start with the man in the mirror, Michael Jackson.
You wanna make a change, can't change you.
But there's probably some changes I need to make.
You know, I remember I seen Michael Jordan say,
he may be laugh when he said it.
You know, they said there's no I in team.
He said, but there's an I in win.
Sometimes I just had to ball hog and take over.
But I stands for individual.
There's no I in team because it's not about any individual.
It's about how are the things that you're doing
and decisions that you're making affecting the whole team.
And so ask yourself in order to win,
what does it take to win?
In order to win, ask yourself what sacrifices
is it gonna require?
I know most of you won't do it,
but I think you should write it down.
Like ask yourself, what do I want?
Here's my goal.
What is it gonna take for me to win?
And then I want you to write these things down.
What am I gonna sacrifice?
What skills am I gonna need to develop in myself
in order to win?
Would obstacles,
may I have to go through?
How am I gonna handle obstacles when they come?
And then in order to win at the highest levels,
usually it takes a bunch of other people around you.
And that means that you gotta respect other people.
You gotta respect and trust the principles of the team
and the principles and values of the team over self
in order to win.
You show me a team that's won a championship, a team.
And I'll show you that there's people around
that team that made sacrifices to make people
a little bit more unselfish.
There's people there that brought the team together
because these are the things that it takes in order to win.
There's so many things that can confuse you on your way to win.
It takes to win, you gotta disassociate with losers.
I don't want to hurt nobody's feelings,
but you know the difference between a person
moving in the right direction and not.
You can't associate with the people that are not chasing
with your chasing, it's difficult to win at that level.
It takes you investing your time
and into the right areas consistently.
It takes you dealing with adversity and obstacles
and getting better from adversity and obstacles
and not letting other people, things,
adversities and obstacles take you down or stop you.
That's what it takes to win.
It takes being great consistently over time
and not getting so full of yourself
that you get such a big head that somebody can knock you off
and make you lose because you lost your gratitude,
you lost your humility, you thought you were too good.
That's what it takes to consistently win.
Outworking people, that's something that I have no tolerance for.
That's something that I hope to God to be able to instill
into my children, that the one thing you can control
is man it's disrespectful to our name,
it's disrespectful to where we came from
to not be the hardest working person in the room.
That's a controllable.
That's something you control.
Somebody had to sacrifice to put you in this position.
Outwork people, you can control that.
If they're gifted with more size
or they're gifted with more speed
they're gifted with better hair
or they're gifted with a rich parent
or they're gifted whatever.
You could be gifted with certain things.
But one thing that is in your control
no matter how where you come from or what your situation is
is letting somebody outwork you.
That's what it takes to win.
You got to outwork people.
You got to practice when they don't want to practice.
You got to run when they don't want to run.
You got to travel when they don't want to travel.
You got to do it on the weekend
when you don't feel like doing it on the weekend.
You got to do it some nights when you don't feel like doing it
at night time.
You're going to have to miss some trips,
some parties, make some sacrifices
and some things you want right now
in order to win.
But the difference is the winners,
the people that learn how to win
and the people that don't learn how to win.
Both of them don't feel like doing it.
That's where people mistake themselves.
They think, well, he just must like to do that.
No, I only like the result.
They only like the result.
Who wouldn't much rather sleep in, eat ice cream,
eat pizza, hang out, have fun, drink a beer,
travel all the time, not stress.
Who wouldn't?
But it's your results that you're looking for.
If you want to win,
I'm willing to do these things
that I don't feel like doing right now
in order to win
because I'm going to beat you over to head
with my favorite quote.
I can't stop because...
to describe a lot of what I believe in.
I hated every minute of training,
but I said don't quit,
suffer now
and live the rest of your life like a champion.
That means Muhammad Ali,
what he's saying is there's some things
that you're not gonna feel like doing in the process.
You're gonna have to tell yourself not to give up.
You're gonna want to.
You're gonna want to give up,
but you gotta tell yourself you're not.
You're gonna not wanna put in the work in the process
cause it sucks, but you gotta tell yourself.
I'm gonna do it anyway.
Why?
He described it at the end
and lived the rest of your life like a champion.
That's why.
Everybody wants to go to heaven,
nobody wants to die.
And so I just wanna encourage you
do the things that it takes to win.
It's okay to be different,
it's okay to be a 1% or it's an okay to be a leader,
even when other people don't want that life,
you're about that life.
All of you got winning in you.
I know for a fact if you're listening to this
or you're around this for any given reason at all,
you wanna win.
You wanna win or you wouldn't be here.
This ain't the place to go and listen to.
This ain't the place to sit around.
This ain't the place to videotape.
This ain't the place if you don't wanna win.
If you ain't looking to grow.
So you already got it in you.
You're there for a reason.
Now you gotta take it to the next level,
which means encouraging yourself
to do the things you don't feel like doing in order to win
because you know you wanna win.
It's worth it.
Paying the price is worth it.
Live the rest of your life like a champion,
but I hated every minute of the training.
I said don't quit, suffer now.
That means you're gonna feel like you're suffering
in order to win.
In order to live your rest of your life like a champion.
