Count money, man.
Count money, man.
Stacked riches.
I'm trying to told him I'm a beast, but...
What's up gang?
Welcome back to another episode of The Grindcast.
Get ready.
It's a new day.
And we're going to talk about your heart over hype.
It's not how big your chest is.
It's about how big your heart is.
It's not about how much you could bench press.
It's not about how much you could squat.
It's not about how much your muscles are.
It's about mental.
Like your mental muscle, the mental toughness,
not physical toughness.
So you could build muscle,
but can you build resilience?
The muscles get tired.
The older you get.
I mean, you can stand really good shape,
but it's tough to keep the same type of muscle going on
at 55 as you have when you were 25.
But the mindset grows and should be stronger and bigger and better.
If you invest into it and you work it out at 55,
then it is at 25.
So can you build resilience?
Can you find a way to continue to focus
and put a premium on building your mindset
in your heart inside of you,
not just your muscles?
And you guys know I'm all about standing in shape.
You guys know I'm all about my body spirit.
I think sometimes people think my body spirit is body, body, body.
You know, they just hear the body piece.
Don't forget the mental piece.
The inside, the mind, body spirit,
two of those are internal.
One of those is external.
Because it's probably a third is important.
Now your health is extremely important.
You ain't got health.
What do you got?
Right?
But I think that the muscle,
the body is nowhere near as important as your heart
and your spirit in your mind.
Mental toughness is what keeps you going
when you want to quit.
Mental toughness is those,
is winning those conversations that we all have in our minds.
Right?
So from wherever you're listening to this,
wherever you're sitting right now,
I'm sure you could think of times where
your mind is telling you some not so positive things,
maybe even in the last week.
And I was explaining to my kids,
you know, the story,
and you've all heard this,
but I think it's a good example,
where they said there's a good wolf and a bad wolf
on each of your shoulders.
And they always are in this argument,
and they're always in this fight.
And the good wolf is telling you positive things,
and saying positive things to you,
and believing positive things about you
and the bad wolf is telling you you can't do it.
It's saying negative things and hopes you fail,
and they're always in this fight.
So I asked my son,
I explained, I said,
do you know which one wins?
He says, the positive wolf,
I said, no.
He said, the negative wolf,
I said, no.
I said, it's whichever one that you choose to feed consistently,
whichever one you pour into,
whichever one that you feed,
not the one that's going to win.
And so that's mental toughness.
Because mental toughness keeps you going when you want to quit,
when you want to give up.
And that means that's that wolf on the other side
of your shoulder saying,
you can't take no more.
You're too tired.
You shouldn't do this, you shouldn't do that.
See, when you got muscles,
you got big biceps,
you got some nice legs, quads, chest, whatever,
you could flex that.
But you can't flex your heart.
Only way to flex your heart is to keep going,
it's a long term thing.
No one, you don't walk in the door for the first time in some ice
air.
Man, look at her heart.
Look at his heart.
That's something that only gets exposed over time.
And typically your heart only gets exposed in crunch time.
When the team is down, when the chips are down,
when things get difficult.
Every choice, every hard choice
where you don't walk away,
and you don't give up,
that's how you flex that heart.
That's how you keep strengthening that heart.
That's how you start strengthening that resilience.
Because grit will get you through failure.
Grit is like,
I think a grit,
and I think a like grit in my teeth.
Grit is like,
you bite down on your mouthpiece
and we notice it's going to suck
and we notice it's painful
and it's saying great,
but we're going to get through it anyway.
And we'll start one time.
It's one of my favorite t-shirts that says,
Youngstown and Vennett grit.
Right now, we all know there ain't a date and time
where somebody said it in 1872.
It was grit was invented in Youngstown.
But the theme of it is,
is we have a hard-nosed blue collar toughness
that I think the city prize itself on.
And so I think that's what we got to have in order to win
is that grit.
But I think a lot of people confuse toughness with heart.
And you could be both,
but it can't just be physical toughness.
Oh, I can beat somebody up, right?
Or I can tackle you or whatever it is.
Like, it's about,
you may not be able to beat anybody up,
but life can't beat you up.
You're gonna not stop no matter what happens to you.
You're gonna win.
You can handle it.
You could put the weight of it all on your shoulders
and keep on walking.
While somebody else could beat somebody up,
but life beats them up all the time
because they can't take nothing from life
because you can't beat up life.
You could just outlast life.
You could just go through thunderstorms
and cycles of life and walk out the other side
of better person, but you can't always control life.
You can't grab life.
You can't choke life.
And that's why it's not your physical muscle.
You need to be worried about it.
It's your internal muscle.
You gotta be worried about that heart piece.
And just like weights,
build muscle, pain builds character, right?
Didn't Arnold say it?
No pain, no gain.
Physical strength happens because you break those muscles down.
You tear them.
They struggle.
You break them down.
You feed them something positive.
You feed them some right nutrition and they grow.
Same thing for your mind.
Physical strength impresses people.
Mental toughness inspires people.
Real strength is waking up
on the hardest days of life
and doing it anyway.
Doing it when you don't feel like it.
Doing it when life kicked you.
Doing it when life ain't fair to you.
Doing it when you're in a tough season in your life.
So yeah, the question is this.
Yeah, you can bench 300 pounds or 400 pounds,
but can you carry your team?
Can you carry your family?
Can you carry your organization?
Can you carry the people that are dependent on you
when all hell is breaking loose around you?
So don't just train for strength.
Train for storms that are inevitable
going to come into your life.
Greatness is revealed when life hits back.
When life hits you, how you respond?
There's some things you could do to develop mental toughness.
I think one of them is committing to hard things every day.
Hear me on this one.
I mean commit to doing hard things every day.
It can be as simple as I'm going to wake up at 5.30 or 5 o'clock
or whatever you say.
That's hard.
So if you can win that moment,
then you are ready or starting to do difficult things.
But commit to hard things every day and keep challenging yourself.
Maybe you push yourself through hard workouts that develops inner inner
being resilience.
When you don't quit, for me, it's the mental battle in the cold plunge.
You get in there in the first 20 seconds.
You want to get out in this cold and you win that mental battle
when you don't feel like going through it.
And you start to build resilience.
When you have conversations with other people instead of not having them
and when you let other people have some hard conversations with you,
just doing the hard things builds up that heart piece.
Control the controllables.
It's how you build up that heart piece.
Control your attitude.
Control your effort.
Control your actions.
Control those things.
I think that's how you build the heart and the mental toughness
because sometimes these are the only things you can control.
I think when you see people breaking down and getting all worked up
a lot of times, it's by not controlling the controllables
and they're trying to worry about and stress about things that they can't control.
We got to develop a no-excuse standard.
I got to sign in the big meeting room that we have no excuses.
Or excuses not allowed.
A negativity is not allowed.
That's what it says.
Negativity is not allowed in here.
So neither is excuses because we can't win that way.
Excuses feel good.
Man, it's like, ahh.
When you're cold it's like drinking something hot.
It's like, oh man, this sucks.
But let me tell you the reason why.
Let me give you a good excuse.
It's like, oh, I feel so much better now.
But it doesn't work.
Get you losses.
Look in the mirror daily.
And look at what's done well.
What could I have done better?
How can I have improved tomorrow?
That's how we grow.
Feed your spirit with prayer and meditation.
That's how you feed the inside of yourself.
That's how you build up the inside of yourself.
And build consistently in your thoughts.
And I have to mindset versus I got to.
Like, build like I get to versus I have to.
That's what I meant.
Build consistency in your thoughts about I get to work out.
Not that I have to work out.
But if you got to go to the mindset of, hey, I didn't got an option.
I have to work out.
I have to get up early.
I have to.
Yeah, you have to.
It's not an option.
That's a way to win.
But also having a spirit about get to do these things.
In your mind, I'm a person that's disciplined.
I'm a person that shows up every day regardless of how I feel.
Surround yourself with people that are on the same mission.
On the same vibration as you.
Develop a strong why.
Remind yourself why you're doing the hard things on a daily basis when you're growing yourself.
Because it ain't how big your chest is.
It's how big your heart is.
Remember that.
It's the heart over the height.
It's the things inside the people can't see.
That are more important versus the outside and the things that people can't see.
That's why we got to humble ourselves.
Because the ego, man, that wants you to build up the outside.
But the true growth is what you're building on the inside.
All right.
And those of you what I know about you, I don't know you personally, some of you.
But I know if you're taking time out to listen to us.
That you're interested in building the inside of yourself and you're investing into yourself.
And you know how we feel.
You know, we appreciate it.
We appreciate that you could have spent your time anywhere else.
And you chose to give us a piece of that time today.
If you felt like it was valuable, you know the drill.
We asked that you share it with some other people so we can impact some people together.
And as always, we appreciate you joining us on another episode of The Grandcast.
Get ready.
It's a new day.
We'll see you next week.
