Micromanagement vs Accountability
Show notes
Holding someone accountable is about setting a standard, respectfully addressing if it’s not met, and praising when it’s exceeded. It is not micromanagement!

Count money, man. Stack riches.
Tryin', tryin', told him, tryin', told him I'm a beast, bud.
What's up, gang?
Welcome back to another episode of The Grindcast.
Get ready. It's a new day.
Don't let your circumstances control your mind.
One of the strongest ideas that I could think of
is the difference between what is happening around you
and what is happening inside you.
The circumstances in life,
those things could be real,
but we gotta find a way to not allow those things
to dictate our emotional state.
Stick with me, right?
So there's a lot of times throughout the day
or the week or the month, we gotta stay focused
and there's these storms and all this stuff goin' on
and they could all be real,
but try not to allow it to dictate.
Your emotional state.
When something goes wrong,
the natural reaction is to immediately search for evidence
that things are gettin' worse, right?
I don't know why,
but it's just the way the human brain is wired.
And so one setback becomes proof of another setback.
One rejection becomes evidence that you're failing.
One bad day becomes evidence
that your life is goin' in the wrong direction.
If we don't control these thoughts,
those things that are goin' on outside
start to penetrate us inside in a way that they shouldn't.
This creates a circle, if you will,
just like continuum of, all right, here's the circumstance,
here's my interpretation of the circumstance,
here's my emotion, here's my behavior,
and then it just keeps goin' from there, right?
So this happened, this is the situation,
now it starts, like you can control it
by how do you interpret.
So my interpretation of that, what happened,
then that starts to go into my emotion,
that starts to go into my behavior,
and then more evidence
supporting the original interpretation, right?
Whatever that thing is goin' on in our mind,
a lot of times the issue is it's negative.
And so the challenge, I think, is to interrupt that loop.
Think about this, this is deep.
Interrupting that cycle when things aren't cool,
when somethin' doesn't go well.
And you can acknowledge that this is reality
without surrendering your mindset to it.
So this is real, this ain't good,
but I'm not gonna give my mindset to it.
I'm not gonna let it control my day
negatively or my emotions.
You don't control every event,
but you do have influence over the meaning
that you assign to that event.
E plus R equals O.
You guys have heard me talk about that.
The event happens plus your response equals the outcome,
and so we control the R.
The strongest person in the room
isn't necessarily the person with the fewest problems.
It's the person who remains grounded
every time problems appear.
This translates particularly well, in my example,
to sales and athletics, like sports.
Like the two worlds that I grew up in,
sports and sales.
To me, I think this translates very well to that,
because you get rejection in sales,
or you get losing streaks in sports,
or a missed opportunity, or you get injured.
Lord knows at 43, I'm still dealin' with injuries.
You get injuries, or you have a bad performance.
And what you gotta understand is these setbacks
don't have to become identities,
and you let them roll into being more
than what the heck they are.
So let's not allow today's circumstances
to determine what you believe tomorrow is about to become.
That's why it's get ready, it's a new day, right?
The Grindcast, get ready, it's a new day.
And in that new day, we gotta act like
it's already possible, because with God,
all things are possible.
Act like it's already possible.
There's a major difference between
I hope something is gonna happen,
and behaving like the person that's capable
of making it happen with the level of belief.
Waiting for external evidence
before developing internal certainty
is what keeps you permanently dependent
on circumstances all the time.
This is what's going on, this is my reality.
This is what's going on, this is my reality.
It stops you from having a vision
of where we're going, where we're headed,
what's possible.
Yeah, these circumstances suck,
but this is where we're going.
Yeah, these circumstances suck,
but it doesn't control what we're getting ready to do.
And if you only believe in yourself
when the scoreboard says that you're winning,
your confidence is conditional.
The greats, they start to separate themselves
by how they respond when the scoreboard says,
I'm losing, I'm down.
Real conviction is tested
when the evidence hasn't caught up yet
to what it is that we're convicted about.
The results haven't caught up yet
to where we know that it is that we're going.
And so that's where it takes a little bit of faith.
Right, they say fear is false evidence appearing real.
Faith is maintaining your internal state
when the external world appears to contradict
what you're trying to feel inside.
For an athlete, that means training like a champion
before the championship exists,
before you get the belt, before you get the ring.
We're already training, we're already believing it,
we're already thinking it, we're already feeling it,
we're already practicing like it.
For the salesperson, it means carrying yourself
like a professional, like a winner,
before the numbers validate you.
For an entrepreneur, it means building that business
with conviction before everyone else
sees the opportunity like you do.
This isn't about ignoring reality
or refusing to adapt if things are going wrong
or what the issue is.
It's more so like we gotta refuse
to make current evidence of something,
the sealing of future possibilities,
meaning this stinks right now.
So now, that stops my belief from thinking
I could take it to the next level
because this is no good right now.
Because what happens is our behavior,
typically over time, you'll watch your behavior
as it follows the identity that you believe
that you already possess.
That's why you gotta have faith first.
You gotta believe that it's already yours first.
You gotta walk in it already before it becomes
something that you have because your behavior
starts to follow whatever that your mind
is identifying with.
If you see yourself as a victim,
or if you see yourself as someone who always loses,
then you behave differently than someone
who believes they're capable of winning
and that it's only a matter of time
before the winning comes back your way.
Stop waiting for proof that you're capable
before you start behaving like someone who is.
We gotta act like it's already happening.
We gotta act like we're already that person
act like we're already winning.
Supplying yourself with faith.
And so that's the message for this upcoming week
is no matter what happens,
don't let a bad day turn into a bad three days
or a bad day turn into a bad week
or a bad day turn into a bad month
because of the momentum.
Don't let your circumstances control your mood
and stay locked in with positivity
and a positive 10 on that frequency and vibration chart
that we talked about before, all right?
So remember that grind, get ready, it's a new day.
Okay, we appreciate everybody.
Thank you, if this message helped anybody,
don't forget to share it.
But as always, we appreciate you joining us,
spending time with us today in The Grindcast.
We're gonna look forward to seeing you next week.
Let's get it this week, get ready, it's a new day.
All right.
