Count money, man.
Money, man.
Stacked riches.
I'm trying to told him I'm a beast, but...
What's up, gang?
Welcome back to another episode of The Grindcast.
Get ready.
It's a new day.
We're going to talk about some words that were inspired from David Goggins, 40% rule.
And he said, when you think that you're done, you're only 40% in to what your body is
capable of doing.
That's just the limitations that we put on ourselves.
Now, David Goggins, for those of you that don't know, he was a Navy SEAL veteran who, I believe,
failed the test to get in and finish the completion of the physical test to be a Navy SEAL multiple
times.
He was like working as a maintenance person or cleaning cockroaches or bugs somewhere,
was overweight when he saw a commercial and said that he wanted to go ahead and try
to pursue being a Navy SEAL.
And so since then, he's been ran a gazillion different marathons.
He's run, I don't know, 50 some plus miles in a row and done all these heart races and
he's super mentally tough.
I know he had a pull-ups record at one point.
X amount of pull-ups over 24 hours and just almost a superhuman.
But when you go back and look at his story, he wasn't nothing super about the human.
He was just human and every average, every day guy.
And so I think I respect a lot of what he says because of what I know that he has gone
through just to be a Navy SEAL in general and serve the country.
Already has a different level of respect, but I think to go through it the way that he
went through it and then come out the other side and inspire other people is inspiring.
So some of the things that he's mentioned in that 40% rule of your only, when you think
you're done, you're really only using 40% of your gas tank there.
You're not even halfway with what you can do.
Your mind just starts talking to you.
I think we got to adopt the growth mindset.
So when you're talking about growing and people say you're either growing or you're dying,
but growth comes at a price.
Growth comes with discomfort.
Growth and success are only outside of your comfort zone.
So the minute that you raise your hand and say, I want to grow is the minute that you
got to understand we're getting ready to go on a journey outside of our comfort zone.
We're going to go do something different.
If we're going to go to a place we've never been, we're going to go through some things
that we've never gone through before.
And so growth and success are only going to happen and you got to accept it outside of
that comfort zone.
You can't steal second base.
There's a baseball player with your foot on first base.
It's a little bit uncomfortable.
And so in that process, we got to avoid self-limiting thought processes and behaviors that
we as humans are capable of more than what we think.
And so, but you got this negative voice always that comes up in your mind that you're not
believing or you're not going to do well or I told you you weren't going to make it.
Whatever it is, it's this voice in our mind that you have to starve that voice and feed
the other voice that positively encourages you because it's typically not the ability.
It's the will because of the belief that limits people.
You're capable of so much more than what you think that you're capable of.
We just got to be able to win those mental battles.
And so, the encouragement is we need to go set huge goals and keep on going.
Don't want you hit those goals, the greats if you study them, they just move the finish
line back.
They just set a new huge goal.
But if you're already setting goals, why don't you go ahead and set yourself a big goal.
And in the process of attacking that goal, you got to embrace the process.
So the process, you have to embrace over the outcome.
The outcome will come.
The outcome will come if you just embrace the process.
We got to just figure out.
What steps are needed to achieve this huge goal and then break it all the way down into
a small goal?
That's pretty much the process, the activity aspect of starting to accomplish all these small
goals on the way to the larger goal.
That's called the process.
And you can't get too focused on the outcome when you're in the process because you'll discourage
yourself and you'll want to rush the whole situation.
But you just got to embrace the journey one day at a time.
People toughness is, I think, one of the, it's talked about a lot, but in a lot of ways,
I think it's not talked about enough.
I think so many times I've watched people be destined for greatness only to get stopped
by adversities and obstacles and things that they have to persevere through.
That's where we need to apply mental toughness.
And I believe mental toughness can be built just like you can build a muscle.
You ever see somebody skinny and then they end up with muscles.
But to build a muscle, you got to feed it, positivity, and you got to break it down and build
it back up, right?
So I'm not all, I don't know all the science behind it, but I understand that to build muscle,
it happens from breaking that muscle down, feeding it good things, good nourishment,
nutrition, and it builds back bigger and stronger.
So mental toughness can be very similar, is that at times life will break you down.
So you don't have to break yourself down necessarily.
Life is going to have obstacles in adversities.
And as life starts to break you down, you put the right positive things into your mind
and into your space and it builds you back up.
Every time you think you're at a limit, you got to push yourself further.
That's where the growth is at.
Because beyond that percent that that Goggins was talking about, the growth is in that extra
rep, that extra mile, that extra step.
Everything you think, every time you think you can't take much more, you push yourself
a little bit further and remember discipline equals freedom.
That's another maybe seal veteran staple, jaco willing has a book out or quotes a lot,
discipline equals freedom.
What that means is if you want to be truly free, you're going to have to get yourself
to do things that you don't feel like doing in order to truly have freedom.
And so the more freedom that you speak, the more discipline that you need to have,
and what is discipline, discipline, Tyson said, discipline is doing things that you don't
want to do but doing them like you love it.
Some things you don't want to do but doing them like you love it.
Nick Saban said, which I love, is discipline can be summarized as there's something that
I don't want to do that I know I should do, can I get myself to do it?
And then on the other side, there's something that I want to do that I don't really probably
shouldn't do it.
Can I get myself to not do that?
It's just the discipline piece that will provide you the freedom that you want.
And we have to have a different relationship with greatness to where I heard the saying,
those saying of excuses and success don't go together.
So if you have success, you've got to forget about making excuses.
And if you've got excuses, you're going to have to forget about making success.
And so in this mindset of growth, we have to understand that we got to make no excuses,
do our best.
Everybody got them.
I'm human just like you, right?
So I'm not perfect.
You're not hearing from a perfect person.
A lot of the things that I teach, there's times where I've had to struggle and remind myself,
hey, time to take your own medicine, time to do what you tell everybody else to do because
you're human.
And when you're hurt, when you're down, when you're in pain, when you're stressed, you
got to remind yourself of these things that they're no excuses.
And I think the more you seek comfort, the less of it you have, the more you seek discomfort,
discomfort, the more of it you end up having.
To grow, you got to seek out discomfort in order to grow.
In order to grow, we got to embrace adversity in a mindset of this too shall pass.
Life is seasons of life.
There's rain, there's sun, there's winter, there's summer, and there's different seasons.
And when you're in that season, it may feel like it's going to last forever, but after
you get through enough, you know, winter's coming, even though it's sunny for a long time,
or summer's coming, even though it's been snowing for a long time.
You got to remind yourself that this is a season when you get down or you get through
stuff, and it's not a permanent thing unless you allow it to be a permanent thing.
It's just a season.
And when you're in those seasons, when you're struggling, when you're pushing, when you're
grinding, it's that old picture that was going around for a while.
I think it might have came out of a book.
I can't remember what book, maybe Covey, not 100% sure.
But it was a picture of an old minor who was mining for diamonds.
And he went out and he set out and he knew that there was diamonds there.
Somebody told him there was diamonds there, and he was just digging dirt, plowing through,
you could see the picture of him digging this hole, you know, digging this path.
And in that path, he was only a small fraction of hitting it a few more times and there
was going to be diamonds on the other side.
But you see the picture has him with the shovel behind his over his shoulder and he walks
back.
And then there's another guy in that picture that looks, his eyes look so focused.
His face looks like he's committed that there's nothing going to stop him.
And he's plowing through that dirt.
But he has more way to go than the person that just turned around, but you see where he's
headed and what's getting ready to happen.
He doesn't look defeated.
So at time, victory is just on the other side of that.
And you can't be defeated.
You got to just push through it.
And I remember since Ronan Navy SEAL kicked one of my own favorite videos, there was a Navy
SEAL veteran that spoke to the Oakland Raiders.
I think it was the Oakland Raiders at the time.
And he was giving a speech and talking to the team and the foundation thing that I remember
about this right now is that he talked about.
They were taught that the only way you lose is if you give up or you die.
And so he said, I just pounded into my head.
Not dead can't quit.
Not dead can't quit.
It was Richard McIwits, I think it was.
So if you look at that video, Richard McIwits, one of my all time favorites, he just explains
like you just got to keep pushing so many people give up too soon.
And he just had to pound into his head and he made it further than anybody thought he
would make it.
Was that if I'm not dead, I'm just can't quit.
It's got to keep on moving forward.
And so the next time you're at a limit and you're trying to go to the next level, just
remind yourself that that's your mind talking.
You're probably only 40, 50% as you think you are.
We got to push that push past that limit.
Encourage one another to grow.
Don't stop.
Don't quit.
Not dead can't quit.
And as always, we appreciate you not quitting spending some time with us in the grind
