Transcript
Count money, man.
I'm not a rich.
I'm trying to talk to my beast, but
what's up gang?
Welcome to the grind cast.
I'm an area here.
Get ready to do.
New day.
What's up gang?
Simon here.
Get ready.
It's a new day.
Welcome to another episode of the grind cast.
And today I want to zone in on setting goals.
Goal setting.
All right.
So this ain't something that's new that you haven't
heard before.
I want this to be the time that you do it.
Like Nike, just do it.
Let's talk about why and how to go about goal setting.
And I want to make sure, like, if you're going to listen to this and not implement it,
it's a waste of time.
The only way this will work is if you work.
If you put into work, if you do this stuff, it won't take you that long.
Okay.
You've got to be willing to invest more time in yourself, in your own life than your
willing to invest into social media or other things for other people's like, like this
is vital.
You have to see where you're going, know where you're going, have a game plan on where
you're going.
It's like if we take off to drive to Indiana from Pittsburgh, the first thing I'm going
to do is I'm going to put the address in my navigation and I'm going to follow the
turn by turn.
You can't just be driving to Indiana to this certain street with no directions, but
this is what people are doing in life.
They're driving to Indiana, they're driving to Colorado with no navigation system.
When it's readily available to you, people are giving more time planning their outfit for
the week, then they're planning their goals for the week.
So I want us to start off with, what is your vision?
What is your vision?
Because this will help you with your goals.
So vision is when it's all played out for you.
What does that end result look like for you?
What does this project look like when it's finished?
And we're always in, we all have construction barrels on us at all times.
But this life, what exactly, what are you aiming for?
What does that vision look like?
And now let's break it down into goals.
So the first thing is write the vision out.
Then after that, you write the goals.
What is the goal?
The goal is something that happens on the way.
There's smaller tasks that happen on the way to getting your vision.
You may have to hit 10 goals to have your vision complete.
So my goal can be for the year.
Here's what my goal is for the year.
Write it down.
And then you work it backwards.
Here's what my goal is going to be for the month.
You got to make sure this roadmap connects.
Like some people just start writing down goofy stuff.
Like write down what the goal is for the year and it has to make sense.
You have to have a true game plan.
Like if I'm not willing to put gas in my car, I can't go to California.
If my car won't make it to California, I can't go to California.
Like you have to have a true game plan.
Okay, here's my goal for the year.
Now here's what I need to do month one.
Here's what I'll need to be at by month three.
Here's what I'm going to need to do month six.
And so you draw that out on paper.
Please listen to me.
Take the time out to write it out on paper.
Like I wrote out the start of the year.
I wrote my family goals down in all these different areas of life.
From how much we want to give away to how much time we want to spend in our marriage
alone.
Like what are those?
Family things as a unit, spiritual goals.
You know, we wrote all these different goals down.
And at first my wife's like, what are you doing?
Like what this is weird.
You know what I mean?
Like here he goes again.
But after it all got put on paper, it may have taken us two hours.
Isn't two hours worth what's best for my family?
I mean, people will spend more time watching a television program than mapping like what
would be more important?
You watching a two hour television program.
Are you taking two hours to map out your goals for your children, your wife, your husband,
your wife, your wife?
What do you think is a better investment in your time?
If we know the answer, then the second question is why would you not do it?
Is it laziness?
Is it that it's not that important to you?
Do you not believe in it?
What would stop a person from doing this when it's a huge priority?
So you write down the goal.
All right, then we break it down.
Let's say all right, here's my monthly goal.
That's going to get me closer to my yearly goal, which is going to get me closer to my
vision.
This is a roadmap.
Okay.
That's what goals are a roadmap.
And then now we start to determine the daily activity action plan for this week and this
month and this day.
Like today's action plan is like how many sets and reps you're going to do?
Like let's compare this to physical fitness.
So let's say my goal is to go on a diet and I want to go from 200 pounds to 175 pounds.
Or I want to go from a size 8 to a size 4.
You're not as a female.
Whatever it is, then you put these things in there.
All right, so I write that goal down.
And then I say okay, now that means I'm going to have to lose 30 pounds over the course
of the year, which is three pounds a month.
So then all I got to focus on is saying okay, for this month of March, I'm going to lose
three pounds.
Now, if a sudden it doesn't seem that hard, now break it down and say, my goal this
week is to lose one pound.
We can do this.
All right, now is the action plan.
Now we're drawing it out.
Okay, I'm going to do cardio Monday.
I'm going to do these exercises.
I'm going to do this like you draw out the exact action plan for the week and then you
just follow it.
People that don't set goals work for people that do pick how big you want to go.
Pick how big you want to get.
You can set goals in all aspects of your life.
I try to set them for physical, family, business, spiritual, giving.
I try to set goals in a bunch of avenues.
I want to encourage you guys to start.
You know, I remember being at a point in my life where I didn't understand this.
I promise you you're going to waste time if you're just playing as hard as you can play
and doing the best you can do.
You'll do good that way.
But if you're not aiming for something specific, it's like playing baseball and not keeping
your eye on the ball.
You have to follow through and look at the shot go in like this is your mechanics.
How can you keep an eye on a ball that doesn't exist for you?
The goal is the ball.
Keeping the eye on the ball is the daily action plans.
What you're going to find out is it's not as hard as you think it is if you break it
down and you write it down.
Once you break it down and you write it down, now all you got to do is get down.
You got to do the work.
Put your gloves on and let's go to work.
That part isn't that hard.
I think what happens is people get paralyzed by seeing where a person's at and thinking
why I could never get there.
Because you're watching that person that's already finished three quarters of that process.
Instead of just setting a goal for yourself and taking it one play at a time and you'll
find out it's not that hard.
Like losing 30 pounds sounds hard, losing less than one pound a week doesn't seem that hard.
Losing three pounds less than three pounds a month doesn't seem that hard.
Like these are things that are realistic, doable for you.
But let me tell you what's stopping you and separating you from the top 1%.
You ain't writing it down.
Like you can probably think of a bunch of dumb stuff you spend your time on.
Well you just could have wrote it down.
I'm trying to train my daughter right now.
She's 16.
To write down every Sunday, write down her whole schedule for work, for workouts, for
school, what she has to do, what's coming up like in advance, write it all down.
This way all you got to do is attack it.
I wish somebody would have taught me this earlier.
Like I'm telling you right now, please listen to what I'm saying.
There's so much power in writing things down.
You have to make a promise to yourself that you're going to give your time, give your family,
give yourself, give the people depending on you, give them what they deserve, which is
you taking enough time to sit down and write your goals out and not make excuses.
I remember when I would just wing it.
I remember when I would just go hard.
I'm telling you what a drastic difference in life when you're intentional about writing
down what it is, how much stuff you can accomplish in life if you just write it down.
You'll find that what you write down and look at.
Watch how often you start to get those things done off your list.
I remember when my friend and guy in my business, Greg, you know, Greg Rudolph, when he first
started.
Before even start, I remember sitting in his house and training them on the basics and
we start writing out his goals for the year.
Did the same thing with my man, Steve Dell, wrote them out.
Both of them come to me and said, man, it's crazy.
All these things got accomplished.
Both of them said, man, I want to frame this.
All these things got accomplished.
I don't know if it was just an accident, but I'm telling you this has been my experience
with damn near everything that if you start to write it down on paper and look at it,
it happens.
So I want you guys to think about segments of your life, not just business, not just
to sport your training.
Think about segments of your life where you can set goals.
Can you set goals with your kids as a father, as a parent, as a mother?
Can you set goals for physical conditioning?
What you want to do?
Can you set goals for saving money or your business?
Can you set goals for just try to set goals in different compartments?
Write those things down, create an action plan, and then look at it every day and watch
what happens.
Thank me later.
I don't have to go in too much detail.
I don't want to drag it out just for the sake of taking up your time.
I think this is plenty of information to implement and stay specific to goal setting for
you.
But when I say thank you later, the only thing that I'm asking you to do as a thank you
is if this and these podcasts prove to help you and benefit you and don't cost a dollar,
please find a way to share this with other people for me.
Hit them to subscribe and comment and follow on social media.
Maybe they don't know how to work it because you have an iPhone and they have a different
phone or vice, take the three minutes out, take the five minutes out for me, please I
would do it for you and try to find out how we can help that person get it on their
phone or get it in their situation.
Email me on it and I got people that'll find a way to get them on there.
We could try to change our small piece of this world, make sure you got the grit, young
town, and vented grit.
Let's get out there and make it happen.
Thanks for joining us on another episode of the grind cast Get Ready It's a New Day.
Count money, man.
Money, money, that grits is fine.
Time's told, trying to told them I'm a beast, but
