I'm trying to told him I'm a beast.
What's up, gang?
Welcome back to another episode of The Grindcast.
Get ready.
It's a new day.
Today's topic and subject is going to be to keep that fire.
The control to temperature.
So meaning, you know, this is coming from an intense person.
You know, this, this past week, my daughter was telling me that my eyebrows are too scrunched
up, you know, sometimes because my face is so intense.
And she was coaching me up on how to calm my face, you know, after all these years of,
this is what I look like.
Me just, this is just what my face, I'm not doing it all, but it's what I look like.
And she's coaching me up on that because I'm intense, you know, she tells me I'm intense.
And you don't always have to become less intense.
Maybe we could just become more controlled with that intensity.
Intensity could be super powerful.
I think you need intensity, you know, sometimes there's a call where there's a time and a place
to be calm and level headed.
But there's no replacement for enthusiasm and intensity.
Intensity could be powerful, passion, emotion, you know, having that, you know, one thing
about our members starting out and asking about coaching people that are emotional.
And our member of mentor, I'm on sand at the time.
What the thing about emotional people is once they learn how to lead those people typically
are the best ones at creating emotion and others.
So the emotional people, they can motivate and inspire because they create that heart,
they create that emotion.
So emotion could create a lot of urgency, even playing with anger or using, I've had
to coach people how to get better at this because I was like this at 22, you know, myself.
Anger can temporarily create tons of energy.
But if you need anger all the time to, you know, have access to your best performance, you're
going to create dependency on the anger, you know, and thinking that you always got
to get yourself angry and ordered to have the right passion and have the right intensity.
And there's a difference between being angry and choosing intensity and how I'm going
to bring some intensity, not coming from a place of anger.
There's a difference between reacting emotionally and responding intentionally, like with pure
intention to where you're thinking about it and not acting about it and really not having
any time to gather yourself and gather your emotions.
There's a place where you could be demanding and push people and challenge people without
being disrespectful.
And I think a lot of leaders on the come up, they struggle with this a little bit, that
they think in order to hold people accountable, in order to be demanding, you know, to pull
the best out of people that, you know, you have to cross over into that line.
You could be passionate without being volatile.
And it's better for your peace and better for your overall physical health is what I've
learned.
And you know, you can hold someone accountable without attacking them personally.
You know, a lot of times people are like, well, accountability gets a bad rap.
Accountability doesn't have to be, I got to verbally abuse you, I got to, you know, belittle
you.
All it is is remember the word answerable, accountability, answerable.
Just to answer to what it says that you, what did you say you were going to do?
What did you say that you want it to do?
I'm going to hold you accountable to that.
It doesn't have to be beating them down, left, right, center.
You can hold someone accountable without, you know, making them feel like they're attacked.
The goal isn't to turn a 10 out of 10 leader into a 5 out of 10 leader and make them
worse.
The goal is to be capable of delivering 10 out of 10 intensity while maintaining 5 out
of 10 emotion at times.
So before you react, before reacting, I want you to ask yourself, what outcome do I want?
What does this person actually need from me?
Am I correcting the right behavior or am I releasing frustration in letting my emotions
get the best of me?
Never confuse emotional volume with leadership effectiveness.
The loudest person screaming the most isn't necessarily always the strongest person in
the room or the strongest person in leadership.
Typically it's not that.
Because the strongest person in the room is the one with the greatest ability to control
themselves and control their emotions.
Emotional discipline doesn't eliminate your edge is what I've learned.
It just makes that edge that you have a little bit more effective.
So in somebody that I pride myself on passion, enthusiasm, emotion, heck, I got an attack
too on the inside of my arm from my mother reminded me to never let my fire burn out.
So trust and believe in what I'm telling you, you don't need to lose the fire.
That's the last thing that I want you to do.
If you got the fire, that's a blessing.
That's a gift to have that level of intensity.
I just want you to learn how to control the temperature a little bit as I've done on
my 20 year journey in business, transferring from being an athlete in high school and being
an athlete in college and a captain and the emotional leader of the team into running
a business and learning how I can make sure that my passion and my intensity helps me
and it doesn't hurt me.
How I can make my passion and intensity help other people and not hurt them.
I think it's all about understanding your gift if you're out there and this is you,
understanding your gift is that your temperature of the fire, to bring the fire, to bring the heat,
to bring the energy, could be sky high, your ability to turn the heat up and turn the volume up.
And that's a gift, but also recognizing that you have the control to where you could turn
the volume up and turn the volume down and knowing when to turn the volume up and when
to turn the volume down because if it's too high all the time then people will block you
out.
And if it's too low all the time you won't inspire anybody to bring any type of energy because
you got to bring that enthusiasm and energy.
So I think it's now is the next step for people, you know, if you're listening to this,
you just learning how to control that a little bit.
Be more, have a little bit more emotional control, have a little bit more control when you're
dialing it in and using that as a gift.
So keep the fire, definitely, definitely don't want nobody losing that fire, keep that fire,
you ain't don't fire, you better get on fire, the best way to get on fire is to get close
to the fire.
So who do you know that is on fire and get yourself around those people?
But those of you on fire out there just control the temperature with me, you know, this week
and less gain control of our emotions.
All right.
So as always, if this helped you in any way shape or form this little quick shot of
espresso, share it with somebody else that you think can benefit from the message and
know that as always, we're super grateful that you could have spent this time with anybody
else, this eight to ten minutes.
You chose to spend it with us and we're grateful for that.
So thank you for joining us on another episode of the grind cast.
Get ready.
It's a new day.
