New day.
What's up gang?
Welcome to another episode of the grind cast.
Get ready.
It's a new day.
And we're going to talk about haters today.
That how to use the haters and use the people
that throw shade your direction or hate on you
and help for it to make you a better person
and a bigger version of yourself
and ultimately take your game to the next level.
So let's start with this.
I think you can't pay too much attention to haters
to where that is your whole mission in life.
And I'll come back to that.
But we have to stay in a spirit of humility
when dealing with this stuff.
If you're going to grow,
you're going to have people that hate on you.
I mean, I haven't seen anybody
when super bowls be a superstar.
You know, people hate on LeBron.
People hate on the most beautiful woman that you could see
to most handsome guy.
You know, whatever is going on out there,
if you're a world champ, it's something,
if your business is blowing up,
there's always going to be critics and people
that are hating on you.
You gotta get comfortable with this.
I think a lot of people don't even go to the next level
because of they're afraid of what other people
are gonna say about them.
They're afraid of the hate
that they know is probably gonna come from this stuff.
And I want to encourage you at getting comfortable with it.
It's part of, you know, when you hear people say
that there's no growth in your comfort zone,
it's part of the getting uncomfortable part of things
is you're gonna have people that hate on you
and have critics.
And so there's seven billion plus people in the world.
First of all, it ain't that big of a deal
because there's seven billion plus people in the world.
But with that many people in the world,
you can't expect for everybody to like you.
Not everybody's gonna get along with you,
not everybody's gonna believe in the same things
that you believe in, but you gotta keep this perspective.
It's very rare.
You know, I try to avoid saying never, but man,
I haven't, it's hard for me to even think of,
not myself, but other people.
It's very rare that you find a hater,
somebody hating that's doing better
than the person that they're hating on.
It's, no, I don't care what it is.
I don't care if it's sports or modeling or whatever.
Whoever's the hater, whoever's doing the hater
typically is not doing better than the person
that they're hating on.
The people at the highest levels
don't really even have time to hate on anybody else.
They don't got time to focus on,
you ever hear somebody say mind your own business?
If you wanna go to the next level,
you need to mind your own business.
Like you got your own business,
and I don't know about everybody else,
but I know in my business development of multiple businesses,
I got enough things that keep my plate full and busy,
and enough stuff going on in my own world
that I have my own business to mind.
I can't even focus on anybody else
unless they're paying me or I'm a partner in that business.
I don't have time to do anything else.
My hours and time is used up.
Most people that are planning at that next level
that are going, they don't even have time
for that type of stuff.
Most of the haters, most of the time,
they really just, they hate themselves
because you're a reflection of what they wish
they could be, and they try to wrap it around
some other excuse as to why they're hating on you,
why they're talking about you, why they're doing whatever on you.
That's already a reflection.
Like I already know, when I'm around,
one of my biggest turnoffs in life
when I was coming up in the dating game
before I got married is when I would see another girl
hating on another chick
just to try to get my attention.
Or if a dude needs to hate on another dude
to get this girl's attention,
hate on her man or the guy that she likes
to try to get her, that is so weak.
That's such a weak, weak move
that I already know when I'm working with people
in business or another area.
As soon as I see people hating on somebody else,
even if it ain't me if they're hating on
a bunch of other people all the time,
that ain't even a person I want to be rolling with.
Don't let these type of people kill your move,
kill your vibe.
Don't let it change who you are.
Sometimes you look back and I look back
at some of the people, some of the moments in my life
where I had that going on.
I had people hating on me.
I'm so thankful for these moments.
I'm thankful for these people.
I have literally so much to thank them for
because the whole takeoff happened after the criticism
and the hate because it fueled something
and lit a fire under me that I needed
to go to the next level.
Sometimes you need a little bit of hate.
You need somebody to piss you off.
Like sometimes the best players,
you need a little, give me an edge, give me a reason.
Go ahead and tell Michael Jordan, he can't do it.
He can't win this game or give him another reason
to put up 60 points on you.
You gotta be able to digest hate.
You know, you ever hear your body can't digest this
or you gotta digest this the right way
or these foods are hard to digest.
You have to be able to digest the hate
and turn it in the fuel.
Don't let the hate burn you out.
Let the hate turn it up.
Let the hate put more fuel on your fire.
Please give me some more motivation
to take us to the next level, but it's not easy.
As this has evolved over time in life,
that was one of my harder transitions because,
as a kid growing up in Youngstown, Ohio,
it's all about retaliation.
You know, friends of mine that I would meet later in life,
that they would be so interested in couldn't believe
when I would explain to them how we would beef, quote, beef.
Like it would be 10 years long.
I mean, there's people literally that have grudges going on
and beef going on that last generations, 10 years, 20 year.
It's not a positive way to go about life,
but I'm telling you where I was coming up,
it's an eye for an eye or tooth for a tooth.
If this person says something for you,
you know, we're waiting for you, we're gonna come get you,
we're gonna wait till we see you in three months.
And this is, and so to unwrap all of that in my mind,
in my head, when it came time in business, down the road
as an adult, when people would hate on me,
I mean, my first instinct was to, whoop,
I wanna think about going to get them.
And obviously you can't do stuff like that.
You think about LeBron James,
you think about Tom Brady, Bill Bellachack,
you think about the best players, you know,
playing whatever sport or whatever's going on right now.
I mean, you can't just attack every single person
that ever hates on you or anybody
that ever has something negative to say about you.
We can go to, you're a celebrity and you're going to their house.
I mean, you can't do that stuff at the next level.
I don't care who you are.
There's just not enough time in the day.
You may have 10 people hating on you over here,
10 people hating on you over here, 10 people.
You can't be on the road looking for 30 people
for the next six months or you ain't gonna get anything accomplished.
You gotta be able to let this stuff go.
And you can't let this change the person that you are.
You know, I watch people allow other people to ruin their heart,
ruin their own spirit, ruin the way that they go about things in life.
Because this person did this well,
I ain't nice to anybody no more.
Or this person burned me so I ain't be in that way to anybody no more.
Don't let a couple people stop you from being who you're called to be
and the type of person that you're called to be.
Don't let these people harden your heart and make you not work
and help other people because of something that another person did.
As a professional, you gotta act like a professional.
Everybody's gonna want to come at you and talk sauce
to try to get on your level.
I mean, if there's somebody trying to make it
and they say Jay Z sucks, Jay Z got big fat lips, whatever it is.
And he's in the middle of nowhere and Jay Z starts arguing with him.
All of a sudden he blows this dude up in the middle of nowhere
and puts him on the map.
LeBron starts arguing with some dude that says that his crossover sucks
or he's weak or he's not clutch in the middle of Nebraska somewhere.
All of a sudden people looking at the dude in the middle of Nebraska
because LeBron is paying him attention.
Once if you want to play at the next level
you can't be paying these people any attention.
I remember a few years ago when Michael Phelps was in the Olympics
and for those of you guys that don't know who that is,
he's the Olympic gold medalist who won like 20 medals as a swimmer.
And Michael Phelps was in this photo
and it blew up on different posters where he was swimming
in a meet where he got first place.
In the person next to him in the Olympics was looking at him
while he was swimming.
So he's focused straight ahead swimming
in the person next to him that's trying to catch him
is looking at him.
And it said winners focus on winning.
Losers focus on winners.
Winners focus on winning.
Losers focus on winners.
The more time that they're looking at you,
how you gonna run straight if you're looking at me?
How you gonna drive straight if you're looking at me?
The more time they're spending looking at you
is time that they should be spending on getting their life together.
They're not gonna be able to catch you.
Just keep moving forward because winners all you got to do
is focus on winning.
Now usually when people are hating on you,
it means that you're doing something right.
But I want you to ask yourself,
you know, one of the things where I talk about humility,
you gotta stay humble while we're talking about
the topic of haters.
Staying in a humble spirit,
even though I'm talking about lighting yourself on fire
through this stuff, what I mean by that is,
ask yourself, are they right first?
Like not everybody that's giving you criticism is a hater.
Most haters aren't giving proper criticism.
So you have to ask yourself, are they right?
Is there anything that I can grab out of the hate,
out of the criticism, that's right.
Maybe they're right about me.
Maybe they're right, maybe they're just considerate for a moment.
And then the next thing is you gotta consider
what is the person's intentions.
Like if someone's trying to tell you something
for your own benefit,
or they disagree with you on something,
and their intentions is to help you
or make you better, it's not coming from a bad place,
it's not a hater.
That's somebody that's trying to look out for you.
They just don't agree with you
and they're checking you
or they're telling you something that you need to hear.
A hater is somebody that got bad intentions.
They're just jealous of what you got going on,
and they want to tear your world apart and tear you down.
Nothing positive coming from it.
But you gotta stay in the spirit of humility
at the same time as you're allowing this stuff to fuel you.
Take the high road, which is hard for people to do.
It's so hard to do.
I'm telling you, I can't think of many things
of my life that were harder for me than to let pass the lesson
and move on to the next chapter of my life
where I know how to handle things in life.
When I started to come up by allowing people to hate
and me not want to choke them and do it as a person,
because that's how I used to roll.
I would just be on site.
It's, we're getting physical where I had to switch
the whole game plan on,
well, I'm gonna just take the high road on this type of stuff.
And I wanna encourage you to do that.
And one on one, I can explain to you a ton of reasons why,
but we just gotta learn how to wrap all that stuff in a bundle
and use it for the greater good.
The hating will teach you how to get into a zone of focus
that is required to go to the next level
of how to ignore outside influences,
how to ignore outside voices and do your job.
usually they got basketball plan at Christmas.
They got new years, you know, January, new years,
they got bowl games.
February is usually the Super Bowl.
When you look at these things, there's gonna be fans
in the crowd trying to get somebody to miss a free throw.
Talking about somebody's mama.
There's gonna be fans in the crowd booing people
that are playing at certain sport of the opposite team.
These people are professionals.
They're not stopping to engage and worry about
and sweat what these other people are doing in sand.
You gotta be able to stay zoned in, stay focused
like a professional quarterback stays focused
when they're visiting in a way stadium.
They're playing a game away.
Everybody's booing them to whole crowd screaming against them.
They're just true behind center,
delivering a ball, completing passes,
whatever you gotta do.
Use the hate as a form to evaluate
which you can get better at.
Use the hate as a form to take yourself to the next level
as a form of flattery that somebody's even zoned in
and focused on you and not even on themself.
But those quiet, those early mornings
when I talk about the digestion process
of how you're gonna digest it.
Those early mornings, when I don't wanna get up,
when I don't feel like grinding,
when I don't feel like doing what I do.
In the back of my mind and my spirit lives,
all these voices and people of critics
that I know that wanna see me fail
and that have ever doubted me and talked about
us not being able to make it.
And we're already there.
We're already past where they said we couldn't go.
But I'm thinking about these people.
The best form of revenge is massive success.
The best form of revenge.
Like you could pop somebody in eye,
get my black eye and they're gonna be okay in a week or two.
Revenge, massive success.
They gotta look at you every week watching you crush it.
Every month watching you crush it.
Every year watching you crush it.
Just take your deal, take yourself and go to a whole new level.
Use it as rocket fuel, use it as gasoline,
use it as motivation.
When you're sick, do it for the haters.
When you're tired, do it for the haters.
When you got a headache and you're doubting
and do it for the people that doubted you and hated you.
And they would wanna see you,
these are the people that you gotta get up and do it for.
And to go to the next level and greatness,
you're gonna have to do some stuff
that you don't feel like doing.
And so the question is how in the process
do I motivate myself to do the things
that I don't feel like doing
to get the result that I want?
And the secret in there is to get you to do the things
that you don't feel like doing, that you gotta do.
Wrap that in a bundle of hate or words or hate or feelings
or what these people had to say about you a year ago,
two years ago, three years ago,
that you need to prove them wrong.
You need to prove somebody right
that was in your corner
and you gotta prove some people wrong
that was hating on you, endowed on you
and told your mama and told your sister
and told your girlfriend,
and told social media that you wasn't gonna do nothing
and you smack them in the face with a whole bunch of success
and keep doing it.
Rittle off a bunch of shots at that,
throw off a six, seven punch combination
of greatness and success in that ass.
Why don't you sleep and you're up grinding?
Why don't you talk and look at you, you're grinding.
So I just wanna encourage you guys out there.
If you're on your way there
and you haven't had this yet, you will have this.
Be ready to embrace it and pass the test with flying colors.
Don't let it get you out of your game,
help it take your game, help it to make you take your game
to the next level.
And if you're already there, you know what I'm talking about.
So let's enjoy this one together.
Let's say it one time and everybody
and from the West Coast to the East Coast
in different countries,
we got people in different countries right now.
