I'm trying to told him, I'm a beast, bud.
What's up, gang?
What's up, gang?
What's up, gang?
What's up, gang?
What's up, gang?
What's up, gang?
Thanks for joining us on another episode of The Grindcast.
Get ready us a new day.
We're going to be talking about those that do more than what they are paid to do.
Eventually, we'll be paid for more than what they do.
You could rewind that one if you need to.
But basically, what it is is in order to get to where you want to go,
you have to be willing to put in extra work and not get paid for it.
There's going to be a moment, you know, I'll give you an example.
I got registered at my first year playing college football.
So that means I'm putting in all the work in the weight room,
all the work on the practice field, getting injured, all these things,
just as much work, matter of fact, more work than the starters,
because you have practiced dummy.
But I don't get to play.
That's what red shirt freshman means.
Okay, means you are somebody else's bleep and practice dummy
and you're going to learn what you're doing.
You got an extra year to play four more years after this,
but you're going to do all the work for no payoff.
Okay?
But my next year, red shirt freshman year, I started.
You have to put it, I had to put in a year and some change of work
before I had the blessing and the potential.
Woman is pregnant with a baby for nine months, then she has the child,
then she goes through grind, then we get the gifts and everything that comes with it.
I had an opportunity to meet with my daughter's teacher.
This week, and when I met with the teacher, I was telling her,
I said, I was even telling my daughter, hey, the great teachers,
they don't just come in Monday and have no idea what they're going over.
They already put in work before that to have the lesson plan ready.
They already probably worked some things out over the weekend.
How many teachers are out there grading papers when they get home?
How many teachers are out there taking tests home to grade when they get home?
How many people are doing things out there that they're not paid to do
that's part of what it takes in order to serve somebody else?
Or to take yourself to the next level?
The coaches out there come into practice before the practice and they have a game plan.
You have to prepare in advance the busier that I get as a person.
The more people's lives that I try to touch, the more things that are going on in my life.
The better I need to make my 168 work, the 168 hours that God gave me this week to work on.
The 24 hours that He gave me today, I have to plan this and prepare this in advance.
I can't just show up, I have to put in work in advance.
A lack of preparation is what causes failure.
So you can't expect top 1% income or results, top 5% if you're not willing to go the extra mile.
Like, let me start here and keep it real.
Anybody that achieves anything great is working weekends.
Like if you think you're going to do something great and you ain't working any weekends,
let me be the person to keep it real.
Like parents, you can't be a parent and not work weekends.
That's a full time job.
You can't be a coach, like you want to be a professional but you don't want to do what professionals do.
Guess what professional baseball players do?
They travel and they work some weekends.
Guess what professional football players do.
They work on Sundays but you don't work on Sundays and everybody that works on Sundays is going to hell to you.
So basketball players, you want to be LeBron but guess what?
LeBron plays on Christmas.
Like the goal in major college football is to not be home for new years.
We want to play after new years or we want a new year's day game.
Because that means that you're in some of the biggest bowl games that there are in business.
If you ain't working after 5, you ain't working weekends.
I don't care if you're a salary employee.
My top salary employee makes well over 6 figures.
Well over 6 figures.
But guess what?
That individual worked for $10 an hour, 20 hours a week and probably worked for $5 an hour
because she probably put in 40 hours a week when I was only paying her for 20.
Is that abuse or is that investing into her future and believing in where she's going?
Like everybody in this world wants a short term response.
They want, I'll page you this, give me that right back.
Imagine making an investment.
Like when you put money into an investment, you put investments in today knowing that at best.
Like let me tell you a great investment.
If it's safe and it's a 10% annual return, that is a great investment.
And the rule of 72 states that every 7 years your money will double if you do that.
That means if I give you $100,000 today, I'll take $200,000 in 7 years.
7 years.
But people don't apply the investment strategy to their life.
So they'll put in 100 hours today and they want all the return of that next week.
I'm not paid to do this, so I'm not doing that.
If you only do what you're paid to do, if you wait to put in the effort as that a starter would put in,
you're waiting till you're a starter, you're never going to be a starter.
If you're waiting to be promoted to put in the time that's necessary or you're waiting to be paid
a half a million dollars for what you're doing or a million dollars or a quarter million dollars or a hundred thousand dollars,
you have to do the work that's necessary first up front in advance.
You want more time in your life, you got to give up more time right now.
If you invest time, you get time back. If you invest money, you get money back.
Do you understand what I'm saying?
Like if you want the American dream of wanting a lot of money and a lot of time, time being key,
if you want all the time, the only way I know how to do that is to put in a lot of time.
Just like if I want a lot of money back. I got to put in a lot of time or I got to put in a lot of money.
So if you're looking for time and you're out there, oh man, I'm putting in 70 hours.
I'm putting in all these people that you all like to follow on these podcasts.
Listen to their story. None of them said, oh I got in and everything was great.
I've worked 40 hours a week. I made a million dollars. I went home and kissed my wife and we ate lunch every day together and never traveled.
And the world was happily ever after. You ain't going to listen to nobody telling you this.
So when are you going to stop listening and start applying shit to your life?
You want to be great and be a part of the greatness or you want to sit here and listen to people that are doing it.
Greatness is not a spectator sport. Stop clapping and watching and get off your ass and put the work in.
Putting in work and expecting a return right now is a broke ass mindset.
What am I getting next week for investing my time right now is a broke ass mindset. That way we'll never set you free.
But a wealthy mindset is what can I invest today to get a big return later?
What can I invest right now that's going to give me a return later?
And there's not many ways that you can invest a little and get a lot back in return.
And so let me encourage you all out there. All of you as husbands, as wives, as athletes, as leaders in business, as employees in a business, start serving.
Start putting more in and don't worry about the return right now.
And I remember a point in my relationship with my wife where I felt like the amount of work that I was putting in in the effort that I was giving was not even close to being returned.
And I got out of my own way and I humbled myself and I wrote down every day.
This is where I got to check my ego because I'm thinking, oh man, I don't want to share this secret.
But I'm going to give my secret because it goes back to having discipline.
But I don't know if this was a turning point or what, but I could just tell you our relationship went from a nine week period like a report card where we probably were getting a C
to an A. And I for one year or actually from January to November, I wrote down one thing every single day that I appreciated about my wife every single day.
January 1st to November 1st holidays.
And you know with two type A people there's going to be some button heads, right.
So even the days where I'm looking at her and I'm like, oh, strangle you right now.
I go right down some positive.
Man, this is bullshit. She didn't do this. She didn't notice that or whatever.
I'm going to focus on what she did do. I appreciate what you did here for the kids. I appreciate that you cleaned this up.
I appreciate that you let me go out and grind for three days and didn't bitch and add complain or moan. It allows me to grow like all the things that I could find from outward appearance physically to her heart to think even when I was pissed off.
I counted my blessings and was grateful for the things she did have while I was waiting on the other things that you know, I thought needed to be improved on her end.
And I don't know what happened, but after that, you know, I think that we ain't never had any discussions after that.
But things have been on a whole another planet and it started with me giving for nine months straight every single day of my life.
One thing and surprising her with a book that I made with every day, something that I appreciated that she did with pictures and giving it to her for Thanksgiving that I was thankful for her.
And I went nine months like that where I did not feel that I was getting reciprocated for my effort and things that I put into the relationship.
And I don't know if that was it or what, but all of a sudden, I do feel like she's, she's matching me, making me want to do more and making me want to level up.
So did it start with me humbling myself and putting work in that I was not getting paid for not money, but I wasn't getting paid back with the treatment.
I wasn't getting it that I was given. But now I am.
Same thing goes with the kids. One of my secret with the youth that I can get their teachers calling me to get them to listen and they won't listen to them is not because they're afraid of me, although I do put the gloves on some of them, but it's not that it's I first love them and poured into their life.
And I think the thing that they fear the most is just me not being there because I try to give them so much love on them so much and care about them so much that the upfront investment that I gave them gives me the return down the road, the respect they give me now, they were disrespectful the first four weeks that I was with them.
The ones that are the closest to me now, I wish you could see a video on the way that they treated me the first month.
And I see why people have issues because they can't humble themselves and love on these people. They just want to fight with them and go down to the level and not understand where these people are coming from and what they've been through and just by giving all of a sudden I get all the respect that everybody wants and it ain't from being hard on them all.
But I do have to be hard on them at times.
It's all I want you to understand if you if you trying to be a fighter, like it's going to be them dark days, them gloomy, like when you don't feel like running, you don't feel like training, you don't feel like and you're not seeing the return, like that's when you got a pound of pavement, that's when you got to go ahead and hit it two, three days in a row, that's when you got to do two, three times a day, whatever it is that you're trying to pursue.
You want to provide more in value than you're getting in payment. This is how you win in the world. Like when people feel like you owe them, like you're getting so much like I, I, I, man, I'm telling you the staff person I was telling you about that started out 10 bucks an hour, the day that I was able to afford six figures.
Like today's I was able to stroke $30,000 checks at one time to this person felt unbelievable to me.
It was happy. It made me want to do more. I'm trying to double it, triple it, quadruple it and do it for everybody else. But the thing that happened is I felt like I owed her so much because of years, years of her doing more than what I was even panor to do.
And so you got to create this value in yourself of I want to give more in value than what I'm being paid for because you create karma and in person and things that are indebted to you to where all of a sudden you get all the rewards, all the blessings, all the things in what the world has a chance to do is they only show you highlight clips.
They only show you this woman's nice house and nice family and portion, but you don't see the weeks where she.
probably was cursing me saying,
you ain't paying me enough for this shit.
I mean, I'm talking about putting her through
more drama than for 10 bucks and we putting her through now.
Like the nights in the moments
in building a youth program were the staff
and the people that are pouring into this thing.
When I met, I went to Urban Impact here in Pittsburgh
which is a youth and development program
here in inner city, Pittsburgh.
And 25 years they've been doing this.
The first time that I met the founder,
I shook his hand and around all those people,
I said, you guys have no idea what this man and his wife,
sacrificed in the time and what they put in the people
that started in the first five years
to build this place to where it is now, now it just functions.
And you can only get caught up in what's going on
and the impact as being made.
But well before that, there was some things
that they were doing that they can only operate off
of the vision that's happening right now
when they're putting in work in hours
that they were not getting a return.
And so ask yourself, am I looking at everything in my life
as did I get a proper return this week?
Did I get a proper return this month?
Did I get a proper, well those things will hurt you.
Like the only way I'm gonna double my money
every month all the time is if I start buying dope.
But if I want to double my money and investing into things,
I can do that in making investments in my business
which don't come back all the time right there
that week it may be waiting six months for that thing.
It may be waiting a year.
Lot of offices I open up,
they don't, I don't get the money on those things
for two years, three years.
All people see is what happens after that though.
They don't see I went two years investing.
I got no money, zero all the time, all the work,
all the effort, all the money, all the liability
and now I get it back.
Now, years later.
And so are you operating on a wealthy mindset
and a healthy mindset or a poverty mindset
and a broke ass mindset?
We gotta reevaluate, reconstruct the way
that we were taught to think.
The problem is most of the people in this world
are taught to think only as workers.
But the best workers, the people that get promoted,
the people that run things, the people that run shit,
those are the people that were workers,
hourly salary, whatever,
and they were working 40 but putting in 60.
They were asked to do this,
they went above and beyond and did more.
Only the people that do more end up getting more.
And the people that are always in what's in it
for me now, what do I get back right now?
What do I, and you can't see vision.
What happens is what you want, perishes.
That's why in Proverbs and scripture it says,
in Proverbs, and listen what I'm saying,
without a vision, people perish.
That's simple.
You could look it up in Proverbs, Google it.
With no vision, people perish.
Well, the reason why you need a vision in order to invest,
you need a vision because anything great
isn't uphill battle.
Anything great is gonna take a lot of work
and not a lot of return up front.
And if you don't have a vision for where you're going,
you're not gonna have the constant motivation
to get up every day and go hard and go through the headaches
and go through the storms, trials, tribulations, obstacles,
flat tires, people hating on you for free,
unless you have a vision of where you're going,
unless you could see what you're building,
unless you know the reason why you're sowing
and investing into what it is that you're doing right now.
So let's get up.
Let's wake up.
Let's think like champions.
Let's think like greats.
Let's think like millionaires.
Let's think like people making a difference in this world.
Let's think about the people that started youth programs
and nonprofit organizations that blood sweat tears,
blisters on their hands and feet, no money making shit happen
for other people's lives to be better.
Like don't just wait and look at the race for the cure
and all these things like somebody behind the scene
started this and it was so hard for these people
that nobody gets to see the beginning phases of it.
So first of all, appreciate the people
that you have watched do that and respect them
and show them love for it,
but be one of those people yourself.
And when you do that, you'll be walking in a direction
where the rest of your life will be the best of your life.
The best of your life is ahead of you.
I don't care if you're 70 years old.
Don't get old on me.
If you're 50 years old, don't get old on me.
The rest of your life is ahead of you.
There's tons of people out here
that have made things happen.
Look at some of these people from Kentucky fried chicken
to Walmart to a lot of the,
they didn't, people didn't have nothing today.
We're 50 years old, 45, 50, 60 years old.
Don't start telling yourself it's too late, it's too old.
Only thing that got to change is your mindset
and your mind and spirit can always grow.
