Hey everyone, this is Nate Ortiz and this is Walking Empower and today we are talking
about the responsibility of leadership.
We understand leadership and many different facets and different ways that we are leading
in our organizations and our families wherever it may be.
But I want to talk about the responsibility that we have in leadership.
Leadership becomes such a word that we use in its exciting, semi-initial leadership position
or I'm leading this group of people or I'm leading in this organization.
What really is the responsibility we have as leaders, right?
We know there are certain things that we need to operate, character integrity, all those
types of things but I want to look at it in the biblical lens here in Luke 12, verse
48.
This is what it says.
But someone who does not know then does something wrong.
We punish only lightly.
When someone has been given much, much will be required in return and when someone has
been entrusted with much, even more will be required.
We understand that the true reward of leadership is what?
More responsibility.
When you become a great leader, there's just more things that you have to do, more things
you have to oversee, more things you have to make sure are moving forward.
And so when we really think about this and what we heard this passage of scripture,
there are things that are given, there's things that are entrusted and that I like to add,
there's things that are expected.
So in this life, there becomes these moments where people are giving you things, are helping
you grow and who you've gots, calling you to be, whatever feel that might be.
You have to be aware of those people around you.
There's going to be people who give you the great things and people who try to give you
negative things.
They're going to give you the, the, the you can't do it or what do you think you're doing.
And you're not going to make it.
And there's people who are going to say, what is your goal?
What's your vision?
How can I give this to you?
How can I give you knowledge?
How can I give you opportunity?
How can I give you the very best that I have so you can succeed?
Those are the people you want to be around.
Those people who are going to help you and encourage you and empowering to go where you
feel like God is calling you to go.
And so the first problem I want to talk about what is given, right?
In Acts chapter 20 verse 35, it says, it tells us that we are more blessed when we give
than when we receive.
When we become, when we are developing as leaders, we have to be careful.
These things come to earth.
I want to be comforted.
I'm the coming king.
You don't know what I'm going to be doing.
He didn't take that approach.
He took this approach saying, how can I serve you?
And so there were things that people would give, but it wasn't in a place that I deserve
it.
It's from the place of, there are things people give to me, but I want to give my
very best back to you.
And so when people give things to you as we were talking a little bit ago, what are you
doing with those things?
What are you doing with those, those the positive people gave to you?
Are you just squandering or are you just saying, hey, this feels great.
I'm glad to be receiving.
Are you saying, how can I take this, this viable, this, this viable opportunity, this viable
piece of information, how can I turn this into something good that I can, in turn, bless
other people?
We can't get in the place of being comfortable as leaders in that giving stage.
People do that.
Those will be in places and just say, this was good just to get things.
But you never experienced a full blessing when you're able to give.
When you say, no, I've been given something, a work time, a work time, a work time, my
craft.
This person came along the side and gave me another chance and helped me get where I
needed to be.
But so I can turn stand on my own to you and then give it to other people.
That's how Jesus lived his life, right?
If you think about yourself as even an investment, what's the ROI on yourself?
When someone gives to you, what's going to be that return of investment now?
Some people give them.
They don't expect anything back.
But what is it?
If you had to articulate it, right?
Do we produce or do we procrastinate?
Do we flak, well, this person's given this to me.
But I still need more.
But can you say, listen, whatever you give me, I want to make it the very best.
There was a friend of mine.
He talked about an entrepreneur that friend that he had.
And he said, one of the things that's tough is that when people come to you with an idea,
they expect you to just write the check and just say, hey, I have this great idea.
I want to help people write a check for me so we can do it.
He says the thing that he always asks is, what are you doing right now?
Because I can write a check to anybody to feed the homeless.
But why should I give it to you?
And so when you think about your life and the positive people making you, what is it going
to produce?
All right?
If they're going to invest in you and take time, what are you going to give back?
What are they going to see?
Galatians, chapter six, verse four through five, it says, each one should test their own actions.
Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else.
For each one should carry their own load.
When people are giving you things, you have to understand that this is the strength in you.
This is to make you a better person.
And this is to say, okay, I've been giving something, as it says in a Luke chapter 12,
but something will be required in return.
People are not just going to give you things as a leader and expect nothing back.
Be a go-getter.
Be someone who says, listen, I want to be like Jesus did.
And I want to be able to receive, but I give, I also want to receive, and vice versa,
but listen, you always want to be in that place of giving, because that's where the
three blessing comes in.
The second part of that verse in Luke chapter 12 was the word entrusted.
I love this quote.
It says, the mediocre teacher tells the good teacher explains the superior teacher demonstrates
the great teacher inspires.
And as William Arthur Ward, when you are in trust with knowledge
when you are in trust with the ability to give people opportunities and you are in
trust with that, are you able to just say, I don't want to be a mediocre teacher who gives
people this good knowledge for a moment or makes them just think I'm a great leader, but
can you get all the way to that place of being the great teacher who inspires?
Jesus did this himself.
So Jesus came so much was entrusted to him that he was that lay down his life for the
world.
And he got to this place where he said, listen, he told us disciples that you are going
to do greater things than I even did, which seemed like a crazy concept, but this was
Jesus speaking to them.
And he said, listen, we're not leaving right to heaven.
And this is not the heroes from the dead places where I send to heaven, the Holy Spirit is
going to come and you are going to do great things.
He entrusted things were entrusted to him and he entrusted to the people around him.
And that is where inspiration comes from.
So things that have been entrusted to you are you able to inspire people around you?
Are you going to say, look, I've done it.
You can do it too.
How can I help you do that?
That's a great place to be.
This is when you're entrusted with things you have a history of winning.
You have this track record with people saying, man, this person gets it done or this person
is able to help, this person is able to take things up to another level.
And this speaks to your faithfulness.
When you can be entrusted with things someone says, hey, you've earned the right to be
given this because you've been found faithful.
You've been found to have integrity.
You've been found to have character.
And this is why you are being entrusted with more.
If you want to be entrusted with more, wherever you are, you have to understand that you
have to improve your current skill level, your current skill set.
Because where God wants to take you, you are not going to make it.
If you say, I'm standing exactly the same.
I have no plans on improving or growing myself or developing myself.
If you want to be entrusted with more, you have to develop yourself as leader.
Get great mentors around, get great books, podcasts, whatever it is to develop your faith
that you can walk in fullness and integrity for what God has for you.
So then, the last thing is expected.
What is expected of you in this life?
When you say, geez, I'm going to follow you and give everything I got.
I want to be a great leader.
I want to have the responsibility.
You have to know what's expected.
Right there, the old saying says, you can't expect, which you don't expect.
I let this quote by Ray Croc.
The quality of a leader is reflected in the standards they set for themselves.
What do you expect from yourself?
Are you happy with just doing the same thing you've always done?
Are you saying, yeah, my faith is good enough for it.
I'm a good enough leader.
I act this way in one setting and in another way in a different setting.
But are you saying this?
I want to hold myself to a high standard that people could follow.
People could look at my life as they don't.
That don't is perfect.
But man, he was really dedicated to the standard that Jesus lays out.
He's dedicated to the standard of being a person that is not just looking for the applause
of people but the approval of heaven.
Are you that type of person that has expectations and laid out for you in your faith?
Don't hold yourself to a higher standard than you even hold yourself to.
If you do that, write this call being a hypocrite.
You don't want to be that type of person.
You want to be the person that says, listen, I know it's expected of my life from when
I read in the scripture for what I'm getting and these teachings when I'm getting at church.
You want to say, what am I doing to take steps to be entrusted with the more, to be given
more?
What am I doing that I can then in turn give this away?
When you are a good leader in this life, you will face challenges absolutely.
But you will have to state true to the expectations you have set for yourself through the
word of God.
You want to be a great leader?
It's going to be more responsibility that you are going to have to steward.
Things are going to be given to you.
What do you do with those?
The challenges, the opportunities both.
What do you do when you are entrusted with more?
People say, hey, you're doing great things.
You want to give you more so you can make it more.
How do you keep yourself with character and integrity?
And the last thing expected, what are you expecting from yourself?
How are you expected every day to go to the next level?
To say, God, help me to grow in my faith, help me to grow in my understanding of your
word that I may be changed.
So listen, I hope that you are inspired by this word, that you grow in your leadership,
that you understand that with Jesus, you can do all things, but submit all your plans
to him, focus on him, pray, and say, God, you get the increase, you get the blessing.
It's great to receive from you, God.
What I want to be able to give when I receive a way to people and change their lives for
the better.
So thank you all, appreciate it, I'll catch you next time.
