count money man.
Money man.
Stacked riches.
I'm trying to told him I'm a beast.
What's up gang?
Welcome back to another episode of the grind cast.
Get ready.
It's a new day.
Six things off the top.
I wanted to talk to you about on leveling up.
And so number one is preparation over passion.
You know, you hear it, man.
It's the everybody has the will to win.
It's not the will to win.
You know, people, it's not the will to win.
When it's time to go, everybody wants to win.
It's the will to do the things to prepare to win.
That's the stuff that sucks.
When it's not fun, it's fun to go play the game.
But many people want to, they want to succeed.
But few are willing to do the hard work that's required in the process consistently.
Because the process to grow is a bunch of hard work to grow only a couple inches at a
time.
Right.
So it's a bunch of hard work.
It may be a whole month worth of driving, sweating, grinding, failing, mentally talking,
making sacrifices.
And you grew just a little bit, right?
And that's what I think discourages people.
And so passion provides the motivation.
But the preparation is what's going to build you the skills and the resilience needed to
win.
And so regardless of what it is, whether it's sports or it's business or it's sales,
can you spend time?
Rapping, repping, preparing, preparing, preparing over and over and over again to develop your
skill set and to do all the things in the process that isn't fun to get that fun result.
The second thing is discipline and consistency, the cousins.
You know what I'm saying?
Those are first cousins.
You know, you got cousins, you got second cousins, third cousins, you know, first cousins.
First cousins is discipline and consistency.
Those are like brothers and sisters or twins, okay?
Discipline and consistency is going to be necessary in order to win.
Winning requires like a daily commitment to doing the small things that are often unglamorous,
like things that aren't cute, they're not sexy tasks that lead to mastery of what it is
that you're trying to master.
And so that success is a result of consistent effort, consistency over time, okay?
That's key over time, not consistency for a month.
I see so many people, man, they'll go out there, they'll go hard for a month, they'll go hard
for a week to win.
You're going to have to be consistent and that's why you got to make it a lifestyle because
it can't just be something that we do for a week.
Oh, man, I just can't wait to this is done.
Let me do it hard for too much.
Let's make it a lifestyle, we're just about to do it because it's going to be that daily
commitment to doing those small things, those tedious things over and over and over again
with consistency.
That's going to get you to greatness number three.
Focus on the process, not just the outcome.
You could get demotivated in the process if you want that return right now.
You got to make an investment.
The process is making an investment that compounds over the course of time, but just like
the stock market, just like the market, the market could go up, the market could go down.
But if you invest over the long term, if you consistently cost dollar average, the trend
say that 10 years later, it's going to be way higher than it was today.
That's called the process.
People that are focused on the outcome, they can't handle that stuff.
Man, a minute that it goes down, I got to pull all my money out.
A minute goes up, I'm excited.
You can't just try to time it.
This success thing.
The success thing all you could do is control the process, put the work into it.
Outcomes going to come.
While the winning of whatever it is that you're trying to pursue is the ultimate goal, where
you really got to win is in the process.
The process of preparing, learning, training, adapting, all that stuff is where the growth
is going to happen.
Therefore, mental and emotional readiness.
The preparation isn't just physical.
It involves mental and emotional conditioning, visualizing success, managing setbacks.
Those things are crucial components.
You're going to have setbacks in your process.
That's why it's mental and emotional is can you stay motivated when you're doing everything
that you could do in the process and then you get injured?
You get hurt.
So I'll set you back three months.
Set you back two months.
You could get hurt in business and you could be out for six months.
It could set your business back six months.
It could set your business back a year.
You could get injured in sports and tear your killies and set you back six months, nine
months.
It could set you back a year.
You miss a whole season.
Can you handle the emotional and mental grind of getting better?
That's emotional conditioning because you got to be able to manage setbacks if we're going
to move forward.
You hear the term.
Everybody likes hearing the term.
It's catchy.
A setback is only a set up for a comeback.
Oh man, we love hearing that.
But when you got to do it, it sucks.
A setback, well that means you got to deal with the setback.
That sucks.
But it's a set up for a comeback if you handle it right mentally and emotionally and you
grow through it.
And the focus of can you go and have a plan like most people don't even have a plan,
but then the people that have a plan, the action plan, sometimes they lack and actually
consistently doing what that action plan says to do with consistency or the focus.
My son's young right now.
He's seven.
He's wrestling.
And I'm like, man, I want you to be the kid when I'm going to watch you and I want you
to pay attention to the coach because there's kids all over the place.
Coach is explaining stuff.
Kids are jumping on the wall.
And I'm like, hey, I want you to look.
I want to see you in the front.
I want your eyes locked in with your coach.
I want you locked in paying the most attention.
And I want you to go with the right partners that are focused.
That's that mental readiness, that focus.
You could be there, but not be mentally locked in and present.
Number five, adaptability in preparation, adaptability.
So preparing to win includes staying flexible and being willing to adjust to strategies
and circumstances as things change.
Okay.
And so a lot of people, they don't evolve.
They don't adapt.
They want to go with what it used to be like back in the olden days or back of what it
was.
Listen, I miss some of the olden days too, but here we are.
And so it's either adapt and evolve and grow or stay stagnant and die.
And so you have to make sure that you're somebody that has that flexibility to go with the flow
into adapt like Bruce Lee says, be water.
That water can flow or it can crash.
It could be whatever it needs to do to mold into that circumstance.
We got to be like water, my friends, and just go with the flow and adapt and evolve with
whatever is happening in the times in your business, in your situation.
Number six, that competitive edge.
Those who prepare consistently with focus and thoroughly do it, they usually outperform
the people that are more naturally talented, who lack the same commitment and preparation.
We see it all the time.
I see it in business all the time.
Somebody comes in, they got all the skills, they got the education, they could talk, they
got it all.
But they won't prepare thoroughly.
And so what happens is because they're naturally gifted and talented over time, the other
people that maybe aren't as talented, but they got that commitment and they're committed
to the preparation and the consistency they end up passing those people up.
And so that competitive edge is being competitive in your preparation, but just being competitive
in general.
I think I've watched and witnessed as I've aged and gotten older.
You know those of you that can't see me, I've been bald forever and I just decided to have
a midlife crisis and I got a fade, grew it out, got a beard.
Okay, right now I got a little salt and pepper in there.
So I'm getting older.
And so what I've seen is with some people that get older, they lose that competitive drive.
They lose that competitive nature.
I got a family, I got this, I got that.
I mean that's great.
I'm excited about, I'm competitive.
I want to try to see how I could be a better dad.
I'm competitive.
I want to see how I could be a better husband.
I'm competitive to see how I could get more flexible.
I don't care if you say you're going to get competitive with yourself or competitive with
others, but you got to get competitive.
Competition is what's going to continue to drive you to go to the next level.
That competition and so I just want to encourage you to not lose that competitive edge
that you used to have.
That drive that's more than money.
That's just like man, that pride, that chip on your shoulder that you can create.
When you look back to the Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Tom Brady, some of the best, they
find a way to put a chip on their shoulder.
Even when they've won so much, it's that one comment that somebody says to him.
As that one quote, it's that one journalist, it's that one thing that somebody said that
they didn't believe in him.
That one thing that now they just create that whole narrative in their mind now, they
got something to go out there and be competitive and into chase.
So go back to that competitive drive.
If you lost it, let's get competitive with yourself if you have to.
Be better than you were last month in other areas.
Find things to pull the, and what I've learned is if you want things to work out for you
on the field, you got to treat things like that off the field.
If you push yourself hard off the field of business, you'll push yourself hard in the
field of business.
If you get through adversity and put yourself in adversity and situations off the field,
it makes it easier for you to get through obstacles and adversity in the field.
Like push yourself.
Give you some examples like I try to, when I get in a sun, I make it hot, super hot to
wear.
Men those last five minutes, 10 minutes, I'm trying to like, man, I can't wait to get
out of here so hot.
Stay hydrated, of course.
But this is a way to like start to get that competitive mind and that edge to push through
things, getting into cold plunge, that argument in your head.
I don't even want to get in here.
Then once you get in there, you want to get out of there.
When in that conversation, training your mind to let the body do what it's capable of doing
and getting your mind to overcome some of those things helps you.
When you get out of there and you walk in life, you start to learn, all right, my mind can
control these things.
I can control my body with my breath, with my mind, with these things.
Oh, man, I got myself to do this workout.
I didn't want to do, but I did it and I pushed myself to my limits and I feel so good.
Don't you feel good when you do something you don't want to do and you know you need
to do it and you push yourself to the extreme?
Don't you feel good?
How does that make you feel?
Then you take it into work with you and then you start crushing it.
Get that competitive edge and everything that you do.
Get around winners, hang around winners, hang around people that make you push, that
stretch you and whatever it is that you're trying to do and you'll be on your way to greatness.
