Today I want to talk to you about secrets.
When we think about secrets, you might go back to your earliest memory of thinking about
something someone told you when you were a kid, they say, hey, I tell you a secret, but
don't tell anyone.
And sometimes people are really good at keeping secrets.
And sometimes they were the worst.
But here's the thing about secrets.
As you get older, secrets can become something that is damaging not just to the people around
you, but to yourself.
We are holding things secret inside of us that we really need to talk to someone about.
So I want to talk about secrets to be shared.
Secrets that you need to just go to someone that can really help you process things.
I'm not talking about the people who use gossip as a way to talk about someone else where
they say, well, I heard this.
I'm just concerned I want to share with you, but they don't want to keep it secret.
I'm talking about the things that maybe you do that no one knows.
The things that you are maybe ashamed of or things that you're struggling with internally
that you feel like I need to talk to someone about this secret that I have.
The reality is that when you live your life, there can be things that maybe you do that
you're not proud of.
Things that are just kind of stuck in and the preservation that you want to do is that
you want to just protect yourself.
So you say, I'm going to keep this to myself and keep people away because people really
knew this part of me.
It wouldn't like me.
It wouldn't just be kind or whatever that would look like.
But I want you to take a moment.
Take a moment to think about your life.
Give inventory to it.
Maybe there's something in your life right now that you really need to talk to someone
about.
Maybe a pastor or a counselor or a friend or a parent.
So there's so many really, really trust.
Your spouse, someone that can help you walk through this.
I think when we tend to keep secrets, we want to.
The intentions always starts good, we want to protect the people we love.
We don't want them to know what we're struggling with and what we're going with.
That's exactly the opposite of what we should be doing.
Now, secrets aren't meant just to tell these things that you're dealing with.
It's not just saying, well, just tell everybody and go out there or go on social media and
put mystic posts out there that are very cryptic in their application.
But to really think about what the Bible says.
But before I say that, I heard in an interview with Tyre.
Someone said, you're only as sick as the secrets you keep.
And I've said it before and I think it just bears saying again, right?
There's secrets that you are keeping that are actually making you sick.
They're making an unhealthy person.
And the Bible talks about it in this way in Luke chapter 8 verse 17.
It says, Jesus says, for nothing is hidden that will not be disclosed.
Nothing can seal that not be known or brought out into the open.
In your life, right?
There's lots of examples that people may have known where they've been dealing with something
and then they keep in something a secret.
And then when it comes out, a lot of people are saying, I had no idea they were struggling
with this.
I had no idea it was this bad or to this level.
And not all the time, but there's times where simply if you were to reach out for help
and really been honest with where you were or you felt like you had this responsibility
not to be just rise above it.
The enemy would really love for you to be in that place.
If you are the one who just keeps control and you keep the secrets at bay and it'll get
better in time.
But like anything, if you aren't really being honest about your situation, then it's
really not going to get better in time.
You think about just either you're a natural body.
If there's something that's going on in your body, that's not healthy.
At some point or another, it's going to show itself in other areas of your life and
you have to deal with it.
You have to deal with this, whether it's secret sin or just something secret of lifestyle
that you are just not healthy for you.
And you are just going to say, well, I don't want people to just have to deal with this
and this is how to deal with this.
I just keep it to myself.
You don't want to live in that way.
That's how God calls you to live.
So I want to even help you with this that if we feel like we can avoid sharing the things
that are dealing with in secret, the pain, the struggle, whatever that might be, we feel
like you could do that.
It really speaks to these two things.
I think the first thing is accountability.
You need accountability in life.
I talk about it many, many, many times.
If you don't have accountability in your life, who's the person that helps you, obviously
along with God, but who's the one that helps you stay focused?
All right.
I got to be honest with the person exactly where I am.
I guess the only way you can get true healing and move forward when you are honest about
your situation and where you are.
So you kind of avoid the accountability or you want to just avoid them embarrassing the
mistake and just push through and not deal with reality.
So you have to deal with accountability and you have to deal with reality.
If you aren't having accountability and dealing with reality, that is a terrible
mixture of a way to live.
That when you go further down and you are avoiding accountability and you aren't dealing
with reality, you are creating something that's not sustainable.
You are living underneath a pressure that God has not called you to live underneath.
Right?
God fully sees you and he fully knows you and he fully loves you.
And that's the amazing thing about the relationship.
So that's not saying you become just whoever you want to become and you do whatever you
want to do.
But what really that's communicating is this idea that when you are honest, authentic
and living in this place of saying there's a few people who really know things I struggle
with, things I deal with, the things I'm walking through to help me continue to move forward.
Not making excuses, not staying stagnant, not staying stuck.
But to say with God's help and with the people God has put around me, I can move forward
in the most healthy way that I possibly can.
So when you think about your life, I want to challenge you with this.
Think about the secrets that you need to share.
The things that you are holding to yourself, things you never talked about because you
are painful, you are embarrassed, or you've just been stuck in the cycle that you just
felt like well, it will get better in time.
Listen, God has a great plan and purpose for your life.
Be authentic, be real, be genuine in where you are.
But if you always feel like you have all the answers and you are the one who can handle
everything, you are putting something on yourself that God has asked to put on you.
That we would give our cares, it would give our concerns to God, that He will carry them
with us, who will carry them for us.
And that's challenging depending what season on life you're in, but it's true.
God's in the hard moments and he's in the easy moments.
But in all of it, we get to become God's called us to be.
So listen, I pray that today you take a moment after this.
You've done listening to this podcast and you're watching this wherever you might be.
Take a moment.
Sit back, say, God, what are the areas of my life that I've been keeping secret that I
need a healing from?
When you think about that, then also think who is the person I need to share with?
Because if you can't identify the areas you need to grow in, the things that you've
just been keeping to yourself, I'm sure there's all areas.
We all have areas.
The second thing is if you can't identify someone who can help you grow past that, that's troublesome
as well.
So when you're still around your life, we're always going to give you the permission just
to be stuck, or to make the excuses, or to say, what's no big deal?
But when you walk with God and you read His Word, it's going to hold a true mirror to yourself.
Remember, Luke chapter 8 verse 17, are you might be able to see all things for a while?
You might feel like you have it in control, but there comes a point where it has a control
of you.
And you want to be in the place of, you know, say, God, I need your grace, I need your
mercy to walk this life out.
Hey, I hope you're blessed.
I hope that God is just real in your life today, helping you become who He's called you to
be.
You miss the challenges and struggles.
God is for you.
Have a great day.
