Count money, man.
Money that grits is fine.
I told him, I'm a beast, but...
What's up, gang?
Welcome to the grind cast.
Stop it, there he is.
Get ready.
It's a new day.
What's up?
What's up, gang?
Welcome to another episode of the grind cast.
Get ready.
It's a new day.
And so I think it's funny that I'm going to talk about this because I believe heavily
in motivation.
So I think you got to stay inspired.
I like to speak inspiration and motivation to people.
But I also think you got to have more than that.
You can't just have motivation.
You can only run on motivation so long.
You know, I think you need to stay motivated and consistently trying to find ways to listen
to motivational things on a daily basis, to stay in elite, mental, motivation situations.
But at the end of the day, motivation can be a trap.
It can be a trap because I think people think that because we hear so much about motivation
and we talk about motivation, that people think they're always going to be perfectly motivated.
And so maybe you are motivated.
Maybe you're inspired, but not every single day will you be motivated?
Something will happen in your personal life.
You may have a cold.
You may be a little bit tired, you know, from training or whatever it was the day before.
Whatever's going on, there's going to be times in that journey, in that process, moments
and days where you don't feel motivated and you don't feel like it.
And I think motivation comes if you just consistently just do it.
Do whatever.
So you know, Nike is real simple.
They're slogan is just do it.
And so my suggestion is when you don't quite feel motivated, but you know it's something
that needs to happen right now in the process, just do it because what happens is it makes
it easier to keep on doing it.
If you just learn to just do it anyway, like regardless of what's going on in my personal
life, regardless of what's going on, some days I'm motivated, some days I'm not, I'm
just going to do it.
I'm good.
Like John Maxwell says in order to go up, you got to show up.
Well everybody can show up when they're motivated.
Everybody can show up when circumstances are perfect.
Where you're going to separate yourself is can you show up when other people don't?
Can you show up when other people won't like this ain't my chosen profession or none of
that, but I love my hobby that I've taken too far in Brazilian jiu jitsu.
I'm training on Thanksgiving.
That's a way to get an edge.
So in whatever your game is and whatever you're, whatever you're trying to be great at,
you got to be asking yourself how can I be, how can I get an edge on the next person
to separate myself in order to get an edge?
You got, I think the biggest way to separate is that you're able to show up when you don't
feel like it and most of the other people can only show up when they feel like it, but
you got to show up to go up.
So I think people think that it goes like this inspiration, motivation, and then we do it.
But I think the thing about the motivation chain is that it's not a three part chain,
but an endless movement.
It's action, motivation, inspiration, action, when you don't feel like it, then you're
inspired, motivated, then action, even like you just got to just do it.
And that's what we want to zone in on.
That's what we want to talk about.
So your actions create further inspirations and move on to motivate the future things
that you want to do in your future actions.
Take an advantage of knowing this can really start to just switch your mindset in a different
way to know that it's act even when you don't feel like it, then you'll be inspired,
then you'll be motivated and make sure that you understand it a lot of the times the action
comes before the inspiration and motivation.
A lot of it, a lot of life is about perspective.
And I think that what I just got done talking to my team about in our office was that you
have to be comfortable understanding that when you're trying to be great, most people
won't understand you.
Most people won't think the same way you think.
And I think where people get discouraged is whether it's your work ethic or the sacrifices
you need to make or whatever it is.
When you do those things, if you're trying to be great in whatever it is, you're trying
to be a part of the 1% of people in that game, whether it's football, basketball, acting,
being an actress, being an entrepreneur, being a business owner, starting a nonprofit,
whatever it is, the mission and vision usually is to be a part of the 1% to do what the
3% top 1% do.
And so what happens is you understand that most people think you're crazy for doing the
things or the sacrifices or whatever it is that you need to do to be great except for
the 1% in that game.
So people might think that you're crazy trying to be a professional boxer or in kickboxing
or whatever it is because you train twice a day and you're always injured or you're always
taping something up or you always got to do or whatever it is, blood, whatever.
Because people ain't going to understand unless they're a part of that top 1 to 3%, then
yet everybody gets it because nobody feels bad for you because that's what it took in
order for them to get there.
It only makes sense for it to be that way.
So what you start to learn is the 1% is all think very similar.
There may be differences slightly but for the most part, the top 1%, 3%, and whatever
the game is, they think and see things very similarly most of the time.
There's not a lot.
There's some stuff that's different of course.
Everybody's different.
Everybody has different beliefs but at the end of the day, if you look at Bill Bellicacker
Nick Sabin or whoever's the best in coaching or leading, no one's going to feel bad and not
understand if another head coach said, man, I had to move five times.
They're going to be like, oh, nice for you, buddy.
I moved 12 times.
Oh, I had to break down film on Sundays for two years.
Oh, that's nice for you, buddy.
Bill Bellicack says, but I've been playing on Sundays and breaking down film on Saturdays
for probably 30 years of my life, man.
But everybody wants to have six super balls.
Everybody wants to be the goat.
Bill Bellicack wouldn't feel bad for that coach.
Whoever's a world champion, gymnastics or a limpian or whatever, whatever somebody wants
to do to win that in that game, whether it's Michael felt swimming, the sacrifices that
you have to make, the hours that you need to put in are absolutely crazy and obsessed
and people will talk about you and question you and not understand you except for the
people that won that race.
Those people understand it.
Everybody felt bad for me on my grind and the sacrifices and the things that I've gone
through to build a business, multiple businesses, except for the people that have already done
it.
I never got a lot of pity out of those people.
Whenever I would go to vent to them about the hours that I had to work or the evenings that
I had to work or the people that quit on me or the money I had to spend or the drama that
I had to go through, whatever it was, I got a sense of when I started to talk to them
of like, okay, and so did I.
So how about let me tell you what I had to go through.
And so it's this understanding, gentleman's handshake, inner circle of understanding,
if you got a black belt in Jiu-Jitsu, we all know what it took for you to get there.
We know how many injuries, how many taped up fingers, how many things you had to miss,
how many injuries you had to come back from, how many times you got humbled, how many
hours to get one thing down.
I mean, just all the, nobody got a pass, nobody feels bad for you, but the people that
haven't done it do, they feel bad for you.
So I want to encourage you to understand, you're not always going to be motivated, you're
not always going to feel in the big separator from being a professional in an amateur is
the pros and then the level up from there to hall of famous, they do it anyways.
They do it when they don't feel like it, they still do it.
And then viewing things differently, changing the way that you look at things like when
I talk about work, people that they're, oh, why are you working the day before Thanksgiving?
Or why, you know, two days after Christmas, are you, are you going to go to work?
Well, because that's, that's what it takes right now.
That's what it's like, I don't have to, but I'm so afraid.
Like here's, here's how people fall off.
People talk about do some research on Bill Bellichek and why he's one more than anybody
else.
So I think it was wrong.
Somebody that played for the Patriot said, when the Patriots are nine and one, if you're
in that locker room, you feel like you're losing.
Bill's not celebrating because the game ain't done, like the, the goal is to win the Super Bowl
here.
That's the standard.
And what it takes to win a Super Bowl is you can't be celebrating your victories too
long.
You can't be patting yourself on the back too long.
And so I watch people fall off when they start to pat themselves on the back too long.
They start to chill out a little bit and and kick their feet up a little bit.
And when you kick your feet up, there's somebody's feet on the ground grinding and those
people are going to end up catching you.
And you'll see a lot of the people that got to where they were going, you have to keep pushing
a little bit longer than when you think you should.
So you think you arrived at a place you should put your feet up.
And usually the first time you feel that isn't the right time.
There comes a day where it is the right time.
But just understand when you kick them feet up, you can enjoy the fruits of your labor
with things may go backwards unless you turn it over to somebody that's willing to do the
work, a lot of work.
There is no such thing as greatness without a lot of work.
So that's how you see people fall off.
But with the real money makers know is that it's exhausting to be great.
That was the that was one of the first things I learned from coach, president, friend, mentor,
trust.
I got t-shirts made.
It's exhausting to be great.
One time I asked him, you know, how do you do all this?
And you got to find a way to do this.
And like, where do you find the hours?
And how do you he said it's exhausting to be great, Simon?
Sometimes I would have to meet with these players at one o'clock in the morning.
He would tell me a couple players he sat down with it, met with it three o'clock in the
morning, midnight.
That's the only time they could get the time together.
Everybody want to win national championships.
Everybody wants to be inducted into the college hall of fame, but it's exhausting to be great.
There's nothing wrong with not wanting to do those things.
There's something wrong with if you want to be great and you think that you're going
to be great, but you don't do what it takes.
And then you're frustrated at others or the game or looking and wondering what it is
that you're missing.
I'm trying to tell you what you're missing.
That's why we call it the grind cast.
You missing that grind.
That next level grind.
Like if you're tired of watching people with less talent than you beat you and you're
wondering why what are you missing?
They're out working you or they outworked you and you can't close the gap if they're
still putting in good amounts of time and you're equal the same.
The only way to close that gap is if I want to get what he got at 60 and I wanted it
40.
If it took him 40 years, I have to do 40 years of work in 20 years.
Then I get it at 40, but you can't get around to work when people don't get it till later
it's because they spread that they spread it out.
Like I'm talking about show me somebody just right now just do this exercise and see if
I'm playing.
Think of two people, three people that you think are just unbelievable.
They kill it at what they do.
Best football player, best fighter, best boxer, best parents, best power lifter.
Body builder
Gets who artist?
Think of somebody actor
Now go ahead and do some research and see if they didn't put in a
ridiculous amount of time
More than most people and the word that people would use for those people was obsessed
Show me a rapper who one day made it do was obsessed with rapping
Just walking and rapping just I'm just rapping just constantly
Rapped around whatever it took to like that's all he want to do
You have to be obsessed
Don't get offended when people think that you're obsessed if it's about the right thing say thank you
That's what I'm shooting for here
Would it takes to be great?
Show me an Olympic gold medalist
That somebody wouldn't look at them and describe them as obsessed
people will train track
in between Olympics for four years
To run one sprint
Of a hundred meters
so for ten seconds of your life
You put in how many hours of grind and rehab
But that's what it takes to win the gold medal baby
You separated by a
Fraction of a second like these Olympic gold medalists I knew dudes in high school that were super fast that could run a ten six ten seven
I'm watching Olympic gold medalists do ten seconds nine
Seven nine five like okay
Nine five in ten five Walter Reyes ran a ten five
So you run a nine five or whatever nine seven to win the Olympic gold medal
So one second is what you would beat him in a race by one second
That ain't a lot
That is not a lot that's like whoop if you slip a little bit one more one second he got you one one just one slip up
You ain't winning that race
So people think that that that being a gold medalist in life being the absolute best in the world being the great like being the best
You're separated by these miles and miles and that ain't it man
The people that are the most frustrated are the ones that are that are like 97%
But they think that they should be in that one percent and they can't figure out why they've never been able to get in that
Fraction of a 1% group and whatever it is
And it's that fraction of a percentage usually is that they just outworked you a little bit more
They put in a little bit more work and effort sometimes when you didn't do it or didn't feel like it
So you're not separated by that much
You're not
You're a good actor, but you're not Will Smith you're a great singer, but you're not Beyonce
You're a great local rapper, but you ain't
two-pocker with Khalifa
You ain't biggie you ain't Jay you ain't
Like you could it they they talked about Beyonce
Getting so obsessed on the filming
Session or whatever you call it that she she went for days straight and forgot to eat she just forgot
Wasn't on purpose I mean that's a grind
But how many people wouldn't wouldn't want to be Beyonce
They want to do what Beyonce does but they don't want to do what Beyonce did
They want to do what Jordan does they don't want to do what Jordan did
They want to be with this world champ is but they don't want to do what he did or she did or they sacrificed they gave up
The amount of people that talk shit about them and didn't think they were gonna make it the amount of people that told them
They were obsessed and why are you missing this birthday?
Why are you missing this skating party?
Why how come you didn't make it to this person staying all you never have time to do this?
They listen to all of that I promise you
And they were man enough for woman enough to keep doing it anyways
That's why you're watching them on TV
So now what?
I ain't just sitting here hollering at you for no reason
I'm hollering at you to talk to you ever hear somebody say let me holler at you for a minute
I'm not hollering at you like to scream at you. I'm hollering at you to say let me talk to you for a second
Let me tell you what I've learned
Going from nothing
To being able to retire right now 36 years old and maintain the same lifestyle that I'm living right now
financially
And married happily and kids happily praise God
I don't say that to be arrogant
I'm saying it because I know what I've done is nothing special. I know what I am is nothing special
That's what I'm trying to tell you just talk to me for a while you'll see there ain't nothing special
with special
The ability to grind the ability to overcome adversity mentally the ability to show up one more day when other people don't want to show up
The ability to show up two days
When other people took two days off
Longer than everybody else more consistently than everybody else that's it
So I want you to start doing that
If you want to be great start asking yourself how can I separate?
How can I show up when they don't show up? That's how you're gonna separate?
Find a way to go to work and do what you do when they're not doing it. That's what you got to find a way to do
Not take off because there's somebody that you don't notice about to come get you
It's it's how am I able to show up when I don't feel like it like that week when I don't feel like it and things aren't great for me
That's what I'm gonna say to myself. This is my time to separate
Like this is it because don't think they get a pat
What do you think that everybody in life all these other people that you look up to don't have a bad week?
You don't think they catch cold
You don't think they have an argument with their spouse or girlfriend
You think their family member didn't piss them off. You think you think they just lived this life
That's happy go lucky and that no no nobody gets a pass
So when it's their turn to not feel like it and they don't show up and you do anyway now you got them. That's how you catch them
That's how you stay up. That's how you pass them. That's what I want you to do
I want you to take this and remember to to
When you're not motivated I'm bringing it anyway when I don't feel like it I'm bringing it anyway when I should when I could take some time
I'm gonna grind anyways
Nothing wrong with taking time off sometimes you got to take time off sometimes you got a plan time off and rest
I got I get you I got that what I'm saying after that
People take time off when they didn't plan time off
People get lazy when they didn't plan to be lazy like the only way you should be lazy is if you planned on being lazy
Like I plan not to do nothing this weekend. I plan not to do nothing on third whatever it is like if you plan it
Don't feel guilty about chilling that's smart. That's business. That's being great. That's intentional
And if you're smart about it the only way in the reason why you're chilling mostly should be so you could be better
For your family and for others depending on you and whatever it is that you're doing so you could be the best that you could be
That's why we're resting otherwise. I wouldn't even want to and so then when you plan it do it chill rest
Don't feel bad don't feel I'm talking about when it's not planned and it's time to grind and we didn't think about not showing up today
Yesterday, but you didn't show up today
You didn't think about cutting out of work
Early yesterday, but you cut out today because you didn't feel like it
That's what I'm talking about
I'm talking about the stuff where we lose the mental battle and we just don't want to admit it to ourselves
We let that weak shit creep into our mind and we want and they won that one that thought one not some hard stuff
Not some stuff that's a dog not some stuff that a Navy seal would be able to think not the top elite
Like one percenters or like nope you lost the mental battle. I'm talking about that stuff
Not time off
Not that I don't like to take a day off here there that I don't think we should go on vacation to visit your mother or nothing like that
I didn't what I said I'm talking about no excuses get out there and don't be out work when you're supposed to be working
Nobody's gonna out work you on the days that you're supposed to be working nobody's gonna out work you
No matter what's going on you're bringing that fire no matter what how you feel
What's going on it ain't gonna be able to dictate the way that you're bringing it?
I'm emotionally untied from whatever's going on and I'm just committed to the process regardless. Let's do that
When we do that
We're gonna be one step closer to being where we want to be
Thank you guys for for joining if you could do me a favor if this helped you and benefit you let's let's help people
