Don’t Get Salty While Grinding !!!!!! Let me tell you what I mean.
Transcript
Count money, man.
Money that grits is fine.
I told him, I'm a beast.
But what's up, gang?
Welcome to the grind cast.
Stop it, area's here.
Get ready to do that.
New day.
What's up, gang?
Welcome to another episode of the grind cast.
Get ready.
It's a new day.
We're going to talk about, you know, I think people get salty.
Kids all the way up to adults when they watch other people having fun while they're grinding.
I remember playing sports.
And I think one of the reasons a lot of kids don't want to play certain sports is because
in the summer you might have to give up your summers to play a certain sport.
So I remember in college playing college football in the summer, I couldn't go partying
when everybody else.
They had the whole summer off.
I was practicing all summer.
I stayed on campus in the summer playing college football.
Then we went to camp before the season started where I was literally damn near a 24-7 grind
for weeks.
And then we went straight into the year.
Then when we went into the year, we had the season.
When the season's going on on Saturdays, we were playing.
We traveled half of the games and we were home half of the games.
That's the way it works.
Well, when we were traveling, that means we wasn't there on the weekends.
Friday, Saturdays, we were gone.
Everybody else's partying.
Saturdays we had home games.
Sundays we would have practice in the morning.
Fridays we couldn't go kick it in party because we had our game on Saturday.
So literally half the year was caught up in can't do what everybody else is doing because
we're playing a certain sport.
And that's really the way it goes for the whole year.
You look at professional athletes.
You look at everybody want to be a professional sports player.
You look at kids they want to be professional baseball football.
They want to be professional players.
A lot of times LeBron's playing on Christmas.
You look at an NFL football season if they play 16 games that's 16 Sundays.
Now I think the preseason is four or five games.
So there's 21 weeks right there.
Then they got camp before that even starts.
So you figure and then what if they make the playoffs?
Playoffs is going to go a month.
So now we're 26 weeks in.
They go to the Super Bowl.
That extends it.
There's only 52 weeks in a year.
More than half of the year if you have a winning record.
More than half of the year as an NFL player, you're working on the weekends.
You're traveling on the weekends.
You're gone in another city, another state, but you want to be a professional.
Well, half the year they're gone.
They're not with their family.
They're traveling all over.
They're playing on Sundays.
You think that means they can go out while out on Saturday.
They can't.
They got to play on Sunday or they're gone.
So you have to think about what do you want out of life?
If you want greatness out of life, there's going to be certain tradeoffs that you got to
make.
And no matter what the game is, you're going to have to be willing to make the tradeoff for
that particular game.
Let me give you an example.
I've been training Brazilian jujitsu for over 10 years.
That's the ground game for those of you guys that don't know.
That's grappling on the ground, wrestling with chokes and submissions.
Recently, over the last 18 months, I've pursued boxing.
So we're back starting at the bottom.
I've taken some things that I've learned over the years.
And I got ahead start because of some of the things in martial arts, but starting over
again in a sense of it doesn't matter how good I was over here.
This is a completely different game.
So I have to start over again and make sacrifices.
Maybe somebody else can smoke three days in a row and come in and box because they stay
relaxed and they've been doing it for 10 years.
I can't do that stuff.
Can't smoke cigars, three days in a row, getting a boxing ring and start.
I have to be in shape because I haven't learned how to completely relax myself, the entire
seven or eight rounds.
And so you don't get to, people start looking at other people enjoying something that they
work for and they get jealous or they get salty with themself.
I'm not salty with my like you can't be salty with yourself because somebody else gets
to chill and you got to grind.
If you chose that sport or if you chose that business, you, you have to now pay the price
that's required in that business.
You now have to pay the price or don't play.
You ever hear him say don't hate the player, hate the game.
Don't play the game if you don't want to pay the price.
If you're going to play the game, pay the price.
Understand the trade off.
Don't play if you don't want to pay.
In any game that you choose, there's a price that got to be paid.
So I remember coming up in this business for years and I would look at people that had
more success than me at that given time.
Let's say I was two years in the business, four years in the business, five years in
the business and I would look at people that had been doing it in this business that I'm
currently in for 15 years, 20 years and they would be able to take vacations all the time
and they had residual income paying out.
They had sweeter cars and nicer houses and all this other stuff going on and I think
sometimes people look at that and they get salty with where they're at because of where
these people are at.
And my approach was just let me keep my head down and keep grinding because they paid the
price.
I'm willing to pay a bigger price.
So if that's what I see them have, what do you see?
My shit.
You can't get so upset with your situation.
Empower about where you're at because it doesn't change where you're at.
Where you're at in life is where you're currently at.
So you have two choices.
Pay the price, go to the next level, don't pay the price, stay at your current level.
Either way there's going to be some things that you don't like.
Stand at the current level you may not like that.
Go into the next level there's things that you've got to do that you're not going to like.
Sacrifices that you've got to make that you're not going to like, that you've got to do
to take you to the next level.
So I remember I paid, I used to watch, I used to go out in the field in sales in our business
in the summer.
Everybody was out playing, everybody was in the swimming pools, Saturdays in the summer
I was working.
Tuesday nights in the summer I was working.
Now watch all these people having all this fun and I had to go to work, showing up,
selling sales presentations, giving running appointments, working six, seven days a week.
In years past by and I no longer had to do that anymore.
I used to have to drive in snow storms to different appointments regardless of what the weather
was.
Then I got to a point where I no longer had to do that anymore and I watched new people
come in and they're in the process where they need to now pay that price and they'll
look at somebody else that is further along in this business, they may even be younger
than them.
They're further along in this business and they get salty and frustrated because that
person is home in a swimming pool on Tuesday afternoon and this person got to go to work.
That person don't have to work this weekend, this new person has to work.
You don't have no business looking at that person other than to motivate yourself to
want to get there.
Don't get mad at yourself, salty with that person, salty with yourself or salty with the
process for where you're at.
That's just the part of the game that you're in.
You got to pay that price no matter what.
You can look at people with all, man, it would be nice not to have three young kids where
I could finally get a good night's rest and look at these people with their three kids,
their teenagers and they eat dinner together and they do all this.
Right now you got to pay the price grinding as a parent.
That's the position that you're currently in.
You'll get there.
You'll have that.
I used to look at people, you know, I would look at people with 20, 30 years in marriage
with this great relationship and great marriage and I would talk to them and they would tell
me stories about it wasn't always this way.
There was things that they had to go through and then I would look at myself and where
I was at and I'm like, man, I want our relationship to look at.
I want to be that way.
And over the years, I've watched it evolve to get that way but I can't want in my first
three years of marriage with somebody else took 23 years to build.
It's not right.
It's not fair.
You got to pay a price.
And so I saw Will Smith quote, I've been bringing this up a few times but the quote that
Will throughout who's done everything from being movies to wrapped everything else voice
overs.
He said, I've never considered myself particularly talented.
Said where I excelled was the sickening work ethic.
While they were sleeping, I was working.
While they were eating, I was working.
That's how we got ahead.
That's what he said his secret was.
So I want you to get excited in the process when you see other people because you either
getting better, you're getting worse.
When you see other people having fun, when you see other people doing things that you don't
get to do right now, celebrate that inside and know that you're paying the price right
now because you're closing the gap on them.
You're closing the gap on people.
There's no way around it.
They're getting closer.
I used to love in sports, especially in college where we would have the weight room and
we would live for an hour or two hour and a half and people would leave.
I would stay.
If people wouldn't show up that I was competing with inside, I was happy.
I'm like, yep, I got an edge on you today.
I'm not like, well, I'm jealous.
This guy's out riding around town swimming with his girlfriend and I'm in the weight room
grinding.
I'm like, yes, he's out messing around, bullshitting around.
I'm a catch him.
It's going to show up in about 90 days when we hit the field and he's not prepared.
And so I want you to encourage yourself this year.
There's a lot of, this is called what?
This is called the grind cast, the grind, talking to you guys out there that's still on the
grind doing something, making sacrifices right now that you don't feel like making it.
We're going into the winter here in the north east.
There's some of y'all that's getting ready to go through the storms, through the snow, through
the winter, through the grind.
And other people are going to be able to not have to go through all that, not do all that
stuff.
They're not going to be pushing like you, driving through snow storms like you.
Instead of getting jealous, instead of getting upset, instead of wishing, just keep grinding.
Keep paying the price.
This is a season.
This is your season.
In its temporary, pride is forever.
The sacrifices that you make will pay you dividends in the future.
You want to be a world champ.
You got to pay the price right now, champ.
You can't do what everybody else gets to do if you want to be a professional.
You can't drink when everybody else is drinking.
You can't party when everybody else is partying.
You got to be grinding, practicing, mastering your craft.
Because if you don't, you're going to get caught by somebody who's willing to do that
and willing to pay the price.
Trust me if you're out there and you're trying to reward yourself too soon.
You're rewarding yourself with what you see these other people have because they earned
it.
You're taking time off because they are.
You're chilling out because these people are because you think that you are good enough
and that you're the same level as these people are.
Maybe you are talent wise, but you haven't gotten there yet.
So if you talent wise, have the talent and you're as good as these people and they're at
the beach and you need to go to work and grind.
If you keep grinding and working while they're at the beach, you're going to catch them
and you're going to get there and then you're going to be at the beach.
But if you go to the beach while they're at the beach when they've already paid the price
and you're midway through that price, you're going to bankrupt yourself.
You're going to go backwards.
You're not going to get to where they're at.
You're going to continue to spin your wheels because here's the deal, y'all.
The price is what the price is.
There's no Black Friday discount.
If you don't pay the price today, you're going to have to pay the price tomorrow and guess
what?
It's more expensive tomorrow.
The older you get, the longer you wait, the more expensive the price is that you've
got to pay.
The older your kids are, the older that you are, the less energy that you got, the more
focused that you got on, the more people pulling at you.
The longer that you want to wait to pay this price, the more expensive that this is about
to be.
It's going to cost you more in five years than it is right now.
It's going to cost you more in two years than it is right now.
Do something today.
You guys have all heard us right.
Do something today that your future self will thank you for.
Well, let's do it today.
day then. Do something this upcoming week that your future self three years from
today is going to thank you for. You know, I used to do this and I would go get
asked to speak in Dallas at our corporate headquarters and you know, there
be a couple hundred people and I'm out there and I'm talking and I'd say, hey
September first, 2018. What did you do that day? What were you doing? Unless it was your
birthday or something, you probably don't remember and I would give them a couple
dates. Most of the people didn't know unless it was their birthday, their mother's
birthday or anniversary or something. I just so happened to pick but most of the
time nobody knew what they did October 15th, 2016. Nobody knew what they did on
Saturday in November in 2015. Nobody remembered. And so there's there's
times where you got to grind and sacrifice in a day on a Saturday or a moment
where you don't feel like it that five years from today, you're not even going
to remember that day. But you know what you will remember the life that your
ass wakes up in every single day that day. You're gonna remember today because
that's the life that we're in right now. That's what you've created right now. And the
things that you do, the sacrifices that you make today next week, three weeks
from today, four weeks from today, when everybody's playing around, you won't
remember those days that you got to give up sometimes. Three years from today,
you're going to be in the life that you create because of the days that you
keep showing up when people don't want to show up. That creates the life that
you live in 365, baby. 24, 7365. Invest the time and effort that it takes now to
build the life that you want down the road. Everything that shines and gold. So you'll
see people out there shining. You'll see people out there having fun. You see people
out there doing things that you don't get to do right now for where you're at in
a process. Don't be mad. Just smile. If you see people in your walk of life in
your business or in your sport or whatever it is that you're doing. If you see
where they're at right now and you want to be there and they put in more time
than you and they're further than you keep your nose to the ground. Don't start
rewarding yourself like you already got what these people got. I tell people all
the time you don't get to sit at the table with people that gave all when you
give half. If you gave half, you don't get to sit at the table with the people
that give everything. They sacrificed it all. They gave it all. They grind it for
years. You want to sit at that table, but you want to put in 10%, 50%, 60%, 70%
of what they paid the price for already. If you do that, you won't be at that
table very long. You won't be at that table very long. You have to be willing to
put in the work that those people at that table put in sooner or later. You're
going to be at that table, but don't jump the gun too soon. Don't hate the
process. Trust the process. Don't rush the process. Trust the process. Too many
people are rushing the process and they slow themself down in that process. I
want to encourage you to trust the trust in the process. Don't rush the process. Keep
on grinding. You're going to wake up one day and you're going to be created. You're
going to create the life that you always wanted because you sacrifice. You grind it. You
put in the work while other people were out there having fun. Don't get
disgusted with yourself for them. Don't wish. Don't just just put the work in and
you'll be there. If this helped you in any way shape or form, if you would do me a
huge favor and share this, please with friends, family members or anybody that you
think that we can help to grow. Carry our mission to help other people while
they're out there on the grind. Thanks for joining us on another episode of the
