Count money, man.
Money that grits is fine.
Trying to try and told them I'm a beast.
But what's up gang?
Welcome to another episode of the grind cast.
Get ready.
It's a new day.
2022.
Here we are.
Here we go.
There we were.
Here we are.
Let's get it.
It's it's 2022.
And the question is this, what
is going to be different in 2022
than what happened in 2021?
Tis the season.
Tis the season where people are
talking about new year, new me.
And most of those people is going
to be the same shit, same them.
But why?
Because resolutions don't really
start when the clock strikes midnight
on January 1st.
It starts in your heart and in your mind
as a goal that you're committed to way before that.
It's committing to a lifestyle change.
Making changes that are going to impact you
over the course of a year takes a lifestyle change.
Doing something different.
But it's going to take commitment.
It's a 52 week fight.
It's a 52 week journey.
It has to be a total commitment.
And I think it will help you is setting proper goals attached
to the reason why.
And I know this is generic.
But we got to stop here for a minute.
Are your goals that you set for this year
ain't going to be met?
Here we are, rounding out the first month, wrapped up,
round one out of 12.
How many y'all took a loss already?
Why?
If your goals that you set out is attached to a specific process,
but you can attach that to a specific reason.
Why?
You have a greater chance at staying committed
because commitment is what it's going to require for you
to do anything different this year.
You got to be committed way after you get married and say,
I do.
And when it comes to goal setting, most people
don't even properly set goals.
The goals that you set must be specific and measurable
with a timeline.
Example, you hear people say smart goals, specific,
measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely.
But let's zone in on specific and measurable.
I want to lose weight.
That's vague.
How much weight?
By when?
Specific, measurable, with a timeline, deadline,
give something attainable, something realistic.
So look at what your goals are.
It's not too late to call timeout.
You don't need to wait till 2023 if you're
getting your butt kicked right now.
Don't wait to get your ass kicked all year long.
Let's call a timeout.
And let's come back to the bench.
Let's get in the locker room real quick.
And let's look at what are your goals specifically
and measurable?
How about this month?
What do you want to do this month coming up?
What do you want to do in the month of February coming up?
What is the goal?
What is the target?
Because all hitting a big goal is breaking it down
in the smaller goals.
What's the February goal?
What's the action steps that you've got to take?
That you could stay committed to.
And it needs to be specific and measurable.
I want to lose weight this year.
OK, you want to lose 20 pounds by the summer.
How much you want to lose in February?
Three.
How many days a week you're going to do cardio?
Four.
How many days a week you're going to eat clean?
Five, six, seven, specific, measurable.
And so I think a struggle that I see with goal setting
is that oftentimes people slip up because they don't
stick with the process to attain their goal.
Why is that?
Well, because it gets hard.
It takes discipline.
You won't feel like doing the things that you need to do.
And you're going to feel like doing the things that you swore.
You were not going to do.
Going to eat.
Going to say, going to go.
Good to place.
Like hang what who you said you wasn't going to hang what.
You're going to feel like doing them things.
You got to stop yourself from doing it.
And you're going to not feel like doing some of the things
that you know you need to do.
You got to get yourself to do it.
That's discipline.
And it's going to take that type of war going on
that you're willing to win long term in order to stay committed.
If you only do what you feel like doing,
you're never going to accomplish the goal.
You have to learn to do the things that you don't want to do.
Ask yourself, how will I handle adversity
in this upcoming year?
Because guess what?
Eversity will come.
Eversity in championships go together.
You're just going to have adversity.
And I think sometimes the reason why goals don't get achieved
is people see the goal.
And they think it's going to be comfortable.
You're sitting in a comfortable place writing your goals down.
You're at home drinking a nice hot cup of coffee.
It's a new year.
You're writing your goals down.
It's warm inside.
You got something comfortable on.
And you got all these aspirations and you're writing them down.
And then bang.
When it comes time to execute that goal, it's cold outside.
You're no longer sitting in a warm place where you're setting the goals.
You got to go outside in the car and it's 25 degrees and snowy.
Now you got excuses.
It's cold.
It's early.
I'm tired.
I'm a mother.
I'm a father.
I'm a business person.
I'm 50.
I'm 40.
I'm 20.
I got all these excuses.
Everybody has setbacks.
Even the high achievers.
The difference is the high achievers don't allow it to affect them very long
without getting back to work.
That's the difference.
There was this graph that I watched a man give a presentation on.
He was talking about man the difference between the high achievers and the average achievers
is not on their best day.
Like describe your hardest day of work.
The hardest you worked out.
The hardest day you went in practice.
The hardest day you went in work.
The hardest week you put in at work.
Nobody cares about those.
On your best day of work, of practice, of whatever.
The difference people can compare to that on their good days.
With separates, the greats is how they perform on their bad days.
Their bad days, they don't take much of a dip.
They still find a way to execute.
They still find a way to work hard.
They still find a way to show up.
And if bad things happen, they're not down too long.
All right.
Somebody died.
How long are we going to grieve over this?
We had a baby.
How long?
We're sick.
How long?
We had a flat tire.
How long?
We had a...
Like, in our business, people get a flat tire.
I've watched it cost them a week.
I remember getting a flat tire and I got a new...
Like, let's turn this ship around today.
I got appointments today.
We're fixing this today.
I'm right back out of today.
I'm not waiting three days, four days, five days.
It's how long when you go through an obstacle adversity, are you going to allow that to keep
you down?
Because you can't allow your setbacks to cut your work ethic in half or cause you to
lose focus.
Here's some tips that I would say on how to stay zoned in when adversity hits.
Number one, set a goal.
You got a goal.
Set a goal.
Number two, save the goal to other people out loud as often as you can.
Because it starts to hold you accountable to it.
Step three, work for it.
Put the work in.
Consistently remind yourself of the goal.
In addition to those things, I would say seeing your goal visibly helps.
Visualizing your goal helps.
And then having those goals visible in front of you, whether it's on your refrigerator
at home on your desk at the office somewhere in your car somewhere on your phone, what are
your goals?
And can you look at them?
How often can you look at them?
How can you have them in front of your face as a reminder?
Another tip is understand that anything you want to accomplish or have comes with a price.
And you have to think about what is the realistic price for this that I'm willing to pay?
You can't have, I want a 2022 Rolls Royce.
But I'm only willing to pay $50,000 for it.
You better try to find one stolen where they flip the numbers on or do something because
those those that doesn't exist.
So you're either either either the goal needs to change.
Of for I'm willing to pay 50,000.
So I want a 2020 Tahoe or I'm about to save up enough money.
I said I want the Rolls Royce 2022.
I'm saving up 400 bands.
But you got to have a realistic price of what it is that you're saying that you want in
mind and make a decision in advance before you start down that journey.
I'm I willing to pay this price because there's a price attached to it.
Better it is bigger it is what you think.
More expensive or less expensive.
The bigger your goal.
The bigger you want a the less it will cost you or be the more it will cost you.
Come on, we all know what the answer is.
So if you got big goals 2022, you better have big price you will in the pay.
Be willing to match them goals and dreams by what you're willing to put into it.
What you're willing to give what you're willing to sacrifice what you're willing to go
through.
And then you got to keep score and check yourself monthly and be real with your progress.
Don't wait too long.
Where am I at at the end of January?
How do I do?
ABC D F scale of one to ten.
How do I do on pace to my goals that I set out?
I was going to do that were specific and measurable.
How do I do?
Check on it.
I think it also helps to have an accountability partner that you give permission to check
yourself.
An accountability partner that knows what your goals are knows what the process is that
you give permission to say, hey my friend, a sister, my girl, my dude, my, listen, I want
to let you know at any time if you think I'm not sticking to my goals and doing what I
said, I said out to do that I wanted to do.
You can check me and give that person permission.
I think if you're going to, if you're going to make it happen this year, you got to show
up when you don't feel like it.
Listen, here what I'm saying, I want you to hear my voice in your ear and your heart
in your mind when you don't feel like showing up.
Understand those are the days you start to separate yourself from everybody else because
all the people that don't feel like showing up don't show up, but the great stuff, the
one percenters, where you want to go, what you say you want, who you say you want to be,
where you say you want to be, where you want to go, those people, they show up regardless
of how they Jordan showed up with the flu in the finals.
And the NBA final showed up with the flu hit the game with her lettuce team to a championship
title with pumping fluids into his body.
What can we get through?
How can we show up obstacles happen, breakups happen, setbacks happen, you were meant
to move forward.
We're either growing or we're dying.
Let's start preparing now to crush our goals and take huge steps forward in 2022.
